I it possible to prelowad a sound file with javascript (or gwt) and feed it to a flashplayer without a server roundtrip?I would like to play the sound right after a uses clisks a button on a web site without a delay caused by server roundtrip.

I have AS3 project, made with FlashBuilder. I'm using MovieClips from an external .SWC-file. In a MovieClip from the .SWF-file, I want to use an audio-file. Is it possible to preload a sound-file (e.g. .MP3) in my FlashBuilder project, and access it in a MovieClip inside the .SWC?

I want to create a playlist kind of like ESPN does where you can do a check box for continuous play and if it is checked I want it to keep playing if not I want the user to be able to decide where on the playlist to play.
View 1 RepliesI picked up enough AS3 recently to create some advertising banners and they work perfectly when I test the movie within CS3 by using ctrl+enter. I uploaded the created swf on the website and experienced lots of weird problems like child mcs stopping to play after a while or movies not playing till the end etc.. On some movies, they will play properly if you reload the website, on some others (the one which doesnt play till the end) that wont fix the problem either. The banners' filesizes are also around 8KB for example and include only text and vectors.
I published my movie by letting Flash create an html file, and the exact same problems are occurring there aswell. I mean I got strict mode and everything turned on in Flash but I'm not getting any errors at all when testing the movie. I also dont see any visual errors. It's just the swf acting differently in a browser.
So I'm trying to figure out what the difference between the flashplayer used by CS3 and the one in firefox is for example. I got the latest flashplayer (10 r22) on firefox and it seems that CS3 is using the flashplayer 9 (I'm not sure about this but its the player I found in the CS3 folder).I'm using timeline based tweens (I know it sucks and I did this mostly on the first banners I created and started using the tween classes built in Flash later on when I learned more AS3) so wondering if this is the problem.
Is it possible to, using javascript, either create video data on the fly, or more likely download pieces of video data from various sources and feed them to a flash player instance.
Even better, is it possible to feed a html5 video stream from locally executed javascript?
I need to open a file in its default app, on windows XP SP2, in flashplayer 7.I've searched and found some exe files that claim to be able to do just that, but i cant get it to work.

I've managed to open a given exe file from the fscommand folder, but cant get the above examples to work - i think the problem is, that i cant send parameters to the exe file.
I'm creating a flash game where all of my library symbols, including my sounds, are contained in an assets movieclip on the second frame. The first frame is a preloader and it works fine, however, when I uncheck "export in first frame" for my mp3 sounds in the library I get the error:
1046: Type was not found or was not a compile-time constant: mySound
I have all of the sounds on seperate layers and they all have class names defined. I've seen quite a few threads that bring up this issue, but none that solve it. So, how do you preload a hefty mp3 from your library without exporting it on the first frame?
What I try to do is make a RSS reader in flash that plays a sound when the RSS feed is changed. In an older version I reloaded the xml via a little timer, but what I understand about this socketthingy is that it keeps an open connection with the server/feed? Am I correct that this socket parses data (or smth) as soon as the xml changes ? If yes, why dont this work ? (it does after loading, but not if the swf is running and the xml is changed)

My client wants so have a loading animation/movie (already created that in Flash CS5) on the website's start page (root, '/' - the first thing you see when you go to domain.tld).When the animation's finished it should forward to another page (i.e. the real page with the content), e.g. domain.tld/somepage.htm I can do this with, for example, getURL() in Flash and it works fine.
But. Is it possible to kind of preload domain.tld/somepage.htm so the content (almost) instantly appears after the loading animation's finished?Also, a fade-out-fade-in effect would be nice, i.e. the loading animation fades out and the content of domain.tld/somepage.htm fades in.

View 3 RepliesI'm building a flash movie for something at work and im loading in some images using an XML file but when i use a preloader it only preloads the XML file (as in just the text inside) and not the images.
This causes the movie to start playing without having the images loaded.Does anyone have any ideas about how i could get it to preload the contents/images being called in the XML file so it doesn't run as soon as the XML file is loaded.
As I understand the save() method in fileReference only works with flashplayer 10. But is it possible in flashplayer 9 to get a "save as" dialog box when I on a btn target a .jpg file on my server?

Then I assume it will be faster if I can declare functions in the javascript code in the HTML document in the first use of externalinterface.call funtion ; if flash code calls the javascript code repeatedly. So let me ask you how to do that. For details , any javascript to be loaded is unknown in design time and I can not prepare a javascript file to be loaded.
Is it possible to pass file names from a running Flash application, which only purpose is to enable multiple-file-selection, to a JavaScript application which handles upload of all files to the server?I have examined various Flash upload solutions (like SWFUpload, Uploadify, etc.) and none of them meets my needs. displays an alert to tell me that it has indeed began to execute saves the embedded flash file into a variable and sets access imports that class calls the method.I am not sure about how this class thing works? I wish to make a website with the following loading sequence;
> Preload Intro Movie
> Show Intro Movie
> Preload Main Website
> Show Main Website
In other words, the intro movie preloads then plays, once its finished or the user skips, the main website will then be preloaded and shown.
I know how to make a standard preloader using the getBytesLoaded and getBytesTotal parameters, but Im not sure how it works if you want two preloaders, as obviously the getBytesTotal will be different?
Additionally, I would like to preload an external swf file (buttons.swf, 267kB) when I preload the main website so that everything is nicely ready to use. How can I do this?

The flash has a preloader but it is still quite long for some to load. I was wondering if it is possible and what the best way to have the swf file load behind the scenes on the intro page so that when the use clicks the high bandwidth enterance the swf is already loaded or mostly loaded.
View 1 RepliesProblem: An XML configuration file needs to be loaded at runtime and be ready when the application's createChildren() gets called. At the latest, because configuration values are needed to properly initialize child components. Preferably, I would like the configuration loading be complete before the application even gets created. In short, I want to do this: load configuration, then initialize the application using the loaded configuration.
I created a custom preloader to help solve this. But as it turns out, the application's createChildren() method already gets called during preloading, when the configuration is not yet guaranteed to be loaded. That is, before the custom preloader dispatches the COMPLETE event.
