Javascript :: Preload .swf File And Cache It For Future Page Requests?
Mar 24, 2010
I am using swfupload to upload files on a website, the problem that every time the user open the page which contains the upload button, the page loads completely then the flash file start loading from scratch every time the user visit the page with no cache. Is there a way to preload and cache .swf files in my asp.net page?

I have a flash header for an html site that is about a megabyte and obviously needs a preloader. Unfortunately it won't work to have the preloader loading at the top while the rest of the html below is visible — it will end up looking like the top navigation is cut off, as the top 10 pixels of the nav bar is actually in the swf header (fully loaded it will look contiguous)Is there a way to preload it in one html page and then once it's loaded into the cache automatically jump to the page with the big swf?

My client wants so have a loading animation/movie (already created that in Flash CS5) on the website's start page (root, '/' - the first thing you see when you go to domain.tld).When the animation's finished it should forward to another page (i.e. the real page with the content), e.g. domain.tld/somepage.htm I can do this with, for example, getURL() in Flash and it works fine.
But. Is it possible to kind of preload domain.tld/somepage.htm so the content (almost) instantly appears after the loading animation's finished?Also, a fade-out-fade-in effect would be nice, i.e. the loading animation fades out and the content of domain.tld/somepage.htm fades in.

I'm attempting to bring a swf file down to Firefox to cache but not actually execute. The swf comes from a different domain.
The following approach works in Chrome but not Firefox:
new Image().src = "www.other.com/foo.swf";
Firefox uses a separate cache for images.
This approach works in IE, but not Firefox:
<object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" data="www.other.com/foo.swf" declare="1"></object>
The "declare" tells the browser to cache but not execute it. However, Firefox complains that the request is cross-domain.

preLoad the browser Cache? I have 3 SWfs which I will load and unload into movieclips as needed (for good memory management). But, I'd love to preload the browser cache (not my main movie) with all 3 so that when I do load them, they load quickly. I don't want to load and unload them from my main movie, as that bogs down the movie. Is there a way to get the browser to pre-load them?

I was wondering whether it's possible to preload images into a users cache, to speed up the loading of dynamically loaded jpgs?
I've download and adapted a very nice image browser which I am using as an online portfolio. But there is quite a delay as it loads each JPG dynamically, when the user get to a specific file.[code]...

How do I go about preloading a swf into the browsers cache, but not into the preloader movie? There are a ton of flash sites out there that preload a movie and when the loading is finished have an "enter" button. That enter button sometimes launches a new window with the already loaded swf. How is that done?

Flash CS4 using AS 2.0 for this.
Here's a simple problem I am having. I have a website made up from multiple swfs. Which open up over the index swf.
What I need to do is load 4 swf files into the memory so the transition between the page loads is smooth. The swfs are only a few kb in size but the delay in loading these (1 second) makes the transitions look very untidy. Once i've clicked on every section then the flashplayer has them stored in the cache so they run smooth, is there anyway just to load these in before the start page has loaded.
here is the website [URL]

I've created a portfolio with animated image buttons and arrows navigation (all nested movie clips). All navigation is handled using goAndStop() at frame labels. The site has a lot of image content, so to keep the initial swf download reasonably brief, I've used many separate (renamed) instances of loader component.I assume the loader component is just graphical substitute for typing in the loadMovie() command for people like myself who are inexperienced with scripting.
With normal server traffic and T1 level bandwidth the lag time after click is 1-2 secs.
Acceptable, but sometimes it gets up to 5+ seconds, which compromises the user experience (and might cost me a client). Is there a command string I can insert into a frame in the actions layer at the start of the timeline (after progress bar) to preload all external files into the player's cache after runtime begins?

I have an external SWF which i load into my main SWF with URLloader.... that external SWF includes several FLV-movies. I´m not sure how they have been imported to that SWF, probably with FLV component.... but I´m not sure and I don´t have any idea of possible instance names either.....
My question is that can I still create a preloader that would load all used FLV-files into a cache, my goal is that user could start watching videos directly after pushing play button, without need to wait any buffering...
I know all the names and URLs of those FLV-files if that helps..I´m looking for actionscript 3 solution for my main SWF but if someone knows the way to do it with html-wrapper, that would do as well (I´m using SWFobject for html-wrapper)

As you might know, browser's security model does not allow a script loaded in a page from http:[url]... to make cross-domain requests (no AJAX calls to any other domain other than url...).The Javascript file itself could have been served from a different domain altogether (url....) and that is irrelevant. This is the Same-Origin Policy.
Flash also has something similar? But does Flash treat the origin to be the HTML page where the .swf file was loaded or origin is the domain which served the .swf file?
So http:[url]... loads a .swf file from http:[url].... Now .swf can load resources only from [url].... or only [url....? I'm assuming there are no cross-domain.xml files setup on either [url]....

I'm loading from my main page an external js file, with a function.
I have a flash file in the main page invoking the javascript function.
Everything worked very well until when the javascript code was in the main file, but when I moved javascript to an external file the function seems not called anymore.
So... there is no way to move the javascript code to an external file ? Or any other solution ?

i want to call a javascript function from within an embeded swf file in a html page and i'm using the ExternalInterface class. i know this function must be defined in a <script> tag in the html page. however, i want to have all my javascript code in an external file, but it doesn't work. my trial file just can't find the function, although i have my external js file linked in the header.

I am trying to send some information to a javascript function on the same html page as the swf file is in. I used the tutorial here on Kirupa but for same way it doesnt work.
ExternalInterface.call("fillForm('"+ l.x, l.y +"')");
ExternalInterface.call("fillForm", l.x, l.y);
These are the variations I tried.

AIR seems to keep its own DNS cache when an application is running, and ignores any changes to the OS DNS cache (i.e. ipconfig /flushdns.More specifically, I'm creating multiple URLStream & URLRequest objects over a long period of time in a AIR application. Once the first one connects the host's IP address is cached for the lifetime of the application.And the URLRequest.useCache property,understandably,has no effect on DNS caching.how to force a host name to re-resolve inside a AIR (or Flash) application?
Note: Unfortunately, resolving the IP through a web service and rewriting the URL is not an option as a workaround.The use-case is downloading files from Amazon S3 using signed URLs which are invalidated if modified.
Update: The test results above were gathered on WinXP prior to AIR 1.5.2. Subsequent tests using 1.5.2 show serialized requests with URLStream.load() are re-resolved more frequently but still ignore TTL values.I still haven't figured out what conditions are necessary to trigger the re-resolution, but have noted a couple of cases that prevent it.For instance, if another asynchronous URLStream is active to the same host then requests use the cached IP address and are not resolved. And simply closing and dereferencing all streams to a host is not sufficient to ensure the same host name will be re-resolved in the next request.

I have a an unobtrusive flash video looping in the background of a website, it is not essential to navigation - it is purely cosmetic.The flash video loops every 30 seconds.As this video is on all pages, it jumps back to the start when a new page is loaded.Is there an actionscript / javascript way to get it to remember the position it got to on the old page so it can start there on the new page?I do know that this can be accomplished by loading the flash movie in a frame as well as by having the subsequent pages load the contents in AJAX but I was hoping not to go down this route.I have seen other people ask the question and allude to the solution but they only posted that they got it to work without saying how.

Ive just finished a flash web site that ive used a lot of XML for loading my images from thumbnails. Its works great.
Except it takes maybe 3-4 minutes to load. I think whats happening is its loading all the images in that XML file before it even shows the first thumbnail, so thats like 2MB its loading.
Is there a way to preload all of the xml files at the start on my Flash splash page?
Here is the link to what im explaining.

I have a flash movie that displays a list of movies. It uses an xml file to get this list.The xml file changes frequently.I'd like to know if there's a way with JavaScipt, to compare the xml file in the cache and the one in the server, if they are different, the script alerts the user and then refreshes the page.

I'm building a flash movie for something at work and im loading in some images using an XML file but when i use a preloader it only preloads the XML file (as in just the text inside) and not the images.
This causes the movie to start playing without having the images loaded.Does anyone have any ideas about how i could get it to preload the contents/images being called in the XML file so it doesn't run as soon as the XML file is loaded.

This result is then echoed to a Flash SWF during embedding with SWFObject. I now want to call this PHP page that makes the query from a javascript function like so - one change I have made to the PHP is that instead of storing the result in a variable $my_result I am echoing the result.
