Javascript :: FlowPlayer OnError - Updating Clip URL

Jul 22, 2010

I am looking to change the URL of a clip when the stream is not found. I am properly configuring the onError event, as I can debug the specific line or add an alert, but what I am having trouble with is the following:

onError : function(errorCode, errorMessage) {
this.getClip(0).update( { url : 'http://full-url.com/images/stream-not-found.png' } );
}

The problem is this image is never being loaded to the player upon the error -- I get a stream not found error message and then the player continues to look for this 'unfound' stream. I'm able to hit the URL and see the image, but am unable to change over upon stream not found. Per the documentation it is supposed to be able to take an image as the URL, but using a fully qualified or relative URL doesn't seem to be working. This is somewhat simplified as we are looking to use customized images for each error code.

When you make a shape object and add it to the stage i goes fine, but often when you then change the shape object, like adding another line to it, it won't show the changed version. You can for example have this:

var line:Shape = new Shape;

Actionscript 3 :: Object Property Changes Not Updating AdvancedDataGrid

Feb 8, 2012

I'm using an AdvancedDataGrid to display hierarchical data. The DataProvider is an object and the children field is an ArrayCollection of objects. When I update one of the objects in the ArrayCollection I'd like the grid to refresh.

After researching, I do understand that this won't happen automatically. Not even if I use itemUpdated() and then refresh the AC. Not even if I call executeBindings(recursive).

I know that to be smart I should've used ObjectProxy all along as this would solve all my problems. My issue now is how do I go about fixing this without totally revamping my Hierarchical Data objects?

I tried having my Value Objects extend ObjectProxy but that didn't do the trick. Is there an elegant solution? Can typed objects even take advantage of ObjectProxy class? [code]...

Javascript 3 :: Can A JavaScript Function Detect Which Flash DOM Object Called It

May 20, 2011

Here's the challenge: I have a Flash movie which will be embedded in a page using an unknown DOM ID that I want to be able to identify/store for callback in a JS function. My ideal user flow would be: User clicks button in Flash. Flash pauses any animations / video / sounds / etc. Flash calls an injected JS function to display a page-covering overlay experience. When user closes overlay experience, a callback method on the Flash object is called. Flash resumes playback.

The problem is, when AS3 uses the ExternalInterface.call("functionName", args...) method, there doesn't seem to be a DOM event triggered, and thus it is impossible to tell which object called a JS function, so having a "registerMe()" function doesn't seem to work. Basically, the injected JS function has no way to determine which DOM object to call, because the ID of the Flash object is unknown.

Javascript :: Can't Locate What Char 25 Of Line 1 Might Actually Mean

May 25, 2009

I have a menu screen that for various reasons consists of a number of buttons as separate flash movies. When a button inside these movies is clicked, it is supposed to call a javascript function to move to the appropriate page. It works fine in firefox, but is currently failing in IE7. I don't have an IE6 handy to test on.This is the error I get in IE:[code]I can't locate what char 25 of line 1 might actually mean. I only get the error when I click on the button, and after installing Visual Web Developer to try and get some actual debugging, it doesn't seem to be actually firing the function that is called, so it seems like the error is happening in whatever mechanism actually makes ExternalInterface.call work?[code]

But as i said it doesn't even show up if I put a breakpoint here and debug it. If I put a javascript:gohere('id') link in the html screen and click that it works fine.I have ExternalInterface.call working in other parts of the same project, and can't for the life of me see any differences in the way it has been implemented.

JavaScript :: Best Method Of Drawing Bezier Line?

Apr 12, 2012

I have a conundrum with a design. Imagine the new Facebook timeline with lots of chronological posts attached to it. However instead of a straight line I need to make a randomized curved line with the content placed against it like so:
The complexity comes in because as the user scrolls more posts are loaded (facebook/google images style) so the line could almost be endless.

As far as I can tell my options are:
SVG - poor support in old browsers
Flash layer - embed will be huge and cause performance issues
Canvas - again the canvas will be huge and might cause performance issues

Question: Are there any cross browser gfx libraries which could do this, preferably with support for IE7/8? Or is there a smarter way to do this which I might be overlooking?

Actionscript 3 :: Drag An Object In A Line That Is Not Vertical Or Horizontal?

May 10, 2011

I would like to drag an object in one line. I already know how to do this in a horizontal or vertical line

Here's how I do this

private var handle:Sprite;
private function init():void
{
handle = new Sprite();

[Code].....

But I want do drag my object in a line that isn't horizontal or vertical.
For example, I would like to drag the object from the top left corner to the bottom right corner, in one straight line.

I tried to rotate the bounds rectangle, but it seems that you can not rotate a Rectangle.

How do I drag an object in a non-vertical (or non-horizontal) line?

Actionscript 3 :: Find Where A Line Collides With A Rectangular Object?

Nov 9, 2011

I am developing a game with Flixel as a base, and part of what I need is a way to check for collisions along a line (a line from point A to point B, specifically). Best way to explain this is I have a laser beam shooting from one ship to another object (or to a point in space if nothing is overlapping the line). I want the line to reach only until it hits an object. How can I determine mathematically / programatically where along a line the line is running into an object?

I could try measuring the length of the line and checking points for collision until one does, but that seems like way too much overhead to do every frame when I'm sure there is a mathematical way to determine it.

Edit: Before checking an object for collision with the line itself, I would first eliminate any objects not within the line's bounding box - defined by the x of the left-most point, the y of the top-most point, the x of the right-most point, and the y of the bottom-most point. This will limit line-collision checks to a few objects.

Edit again: My question seems to still not be fully clear, sorry. Some of the solutions would probably work, but I'm looking for a simple, preferably mathematical solution. And when I say "rectangle" I mean one whose sides are locked to the x and y axis, not a rotatable rectangle. So a line is not a rectangle of width 0 unless it's at 90 or -90 degrees (assuming 0 degrees points to the right of the screen).

'#parentObject1#ChildObject1#parentObject2#ChildOb ject2#Colour'

To Clarify - A line should be drawn from ChildObject1 to ChildObject2 in the saved colour. The above is a string. I slice at each '#', which is working. Each object gets added through my created toolbox so added dynamically.I can get the DisplayOBject of the parents by using - var obj1:displayObject = getChildByName(sliced[1]);

But cannot do the same for the Child object by - var subobj1:displayObject = obj1.getChildByName(sliced[2]);The reason for this is that each parent can be dragged so I would like the drawn line to move with the children.how to find the child objects
