Dec 31, 2011I am starting a project in which I hope to create a web application with similar elements to Google Maps, such as zooming, panning, displaying tiles, etc. The idea would be for it to have a very fluid and dynamic feel.Some possibilities that I have encountered are:
-Flash
-Silverlight
-HTML5
-Google Web Toolkit
-Javascript/jQuery
Being proficient in C# and .net, I feel that Silverlight may be the easiest for me to work with. I am worried however with regards to the penetration of Silverlight (this is a consumer-facing application). I am not asking to implement Google Maps into my web application. Rather I am attempting to create a new similar website (not mapping, but similar concepts).

May 27, 2010I've been trying to do as the client requested : redirect to campaign page then to destination page once a customer clicks on the top banner in swf format.If you are using Firefox, Chrome or Safari, I suspect you can reach the destination page.However, if you are using IE or Opera, I doubt it.I think to cause of such a weird problem is:The swf ojbects don't have a link to url, SO I have to hack the theme template file like this :

I also, already have the map located on their location with an pin over it, but I was trying to figure out how to make the map pull the information that pops up when you click that pin. Dec 16, 2009I creating a flash app that loads a RSS of a plublic map with a custom route path and draws lines from the coordinates on a Away3D Sphere.It works preety well when I'm testing locally, but when I publish online, the app can't load the RSS. I think Google Maps disable access from other domains.Does anyone knows another way to access this map RSS directly from google? Now to fix this, I'm hosting the RSS.

Jquery :: Ajax - White Screen Of Death Jquery Load() Html File With Swf?
Apr 19, 2011I've looked high and low for an answer to this and I'm hoping someone has an answer, or at least a tip on how to avoid it.I'm loading a static HTML file into a container via the jQuery load() method. This static HTML file has a script which loads a swf. When I load that particular file, I get the white screen of death (WSOD) and the page explodes and everyone in the room dies a horrible death.I've had this happen also when using the jQuery wrap methods (wrap, wrapOuter, etc.) when a swf is present.It seems manipulating the DOM with a container that has a swf object causes this. Does anyone have a solution or a way that I can prevent it happening?

Jun 24, 2010I'm using the HTML5 JW Player. It sizes the HTML5 video correctly, but shrinks the Flash fallback player; here's an example page: Test Page
If you view that page in IE, you'll notice that on panel 5, the video is smaller than the space it's supposed to occupy. On Firefox, it works fine because it's using the OGG video in its HTML5 video player.Is there a way to resize the Flash video via JavaScript/jQuery to fit the same space as the HTML5 video?
Jquery :: Get Jquery Working From An Externally Loaded Html Inside A Div?
May 3, 2011I'm setting up a page that uses a flash menu to load html pages into a div container by the following call:

The loading works fine, but some of my pages had specific jquery scripts and that's where I've struck out so far. I assumed all I needed to do was transfer the script importations, css stylesheets and the jquery functions to my main document, but it won't work.
I also tried importing the html as a the complete html, which works on it's own, but not when imported into the main document. Most recently I heard I should try shifting the jquery function calls to the end of the loaded document, to after the content, My scripts work, just not when imported, so I suppose my question is how can I make the main- and imported documents play nice with each other? What say you we make this a jump-start tutorial for all us noobs to reference?

Aug 11, 2010Im making a game, and im very new to this, so please explain as good as you can. I have started with making the background which is a simple world map. I put in script so you can scroll around the map with the arrow keys. Now this will be a wargame, so i need some kinda grid over the map, like buttons of 50x50 placed all over the map, like the board game Risk for an example, so people can fight for territory. I tried doing this with buttons but made the game file very large, and it used to much ram.

I've added a dynamic text field on the stage with the same name as the elements. Then, I want to be able to call several instances of it...i.e. add another <events> code block and have that come up underneath the existing info. I've search high and low to try to do this myself and I've failed miserably.

I tryed drawing the entire thing and then just have it play through in a motion tween (classic tween) but that was way to time consuming. Jul 14, 2010I have some beautiful CATS drwan up for me. In typical avatar style you can change the colour, hat etc... of your avatar.What is the best set up for the assets.
1. Would I programatically import the HAT asset for example when chosen by the user
2. Would I have all the assets sitting inside on a layer inside the avatar - then it would be MASSIVE
Once the avatar is created it needs to walk around my virtual world etc... I don't want the MASSIVE avatar walking around with all the assets inside it.How would I only get what the user chose ie: A red cat with a black hat.Also, the colours would be best to programme them in otherwise I would have to have 10 different coloured copies. Is that right?

Sep 29, 2010I've been having problems modifying this code in order to make it show 5 different world clocks. Right now, the simpleClock code shows just one simple clock. making it show 5 clocks next to one another and each clock having the time of a specific city in the world.I know that I only need to change the hours for each clock based on the time in that city but I also need to have the clock change color to represent the time of day. This is the codes for the AnalogClockFace and SimpleClock.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Reverse-engineer Is The Rotating World?
Jul 23, 2010I understand the menu, but something I'm trying to reverse-engineer is the rotating world. I don't believe it's a movie clip because I can drag and rotate at will which leads me to believe that it's dynamic. So did the design firm use a graphics engine to do this?I was thinking After Effects for the flares in the background, but the rotate-able Earth throws me off.

1) Flash UI frontend that uses AMFPHP to get all data for the view from a PHP powered backend.
2) Actionscript to power the whole game
My concern with Actionscript is scaling, my concern with PHP is having to build an update system that would need a lot of back and forth xmlhttprequests which might get complicated.
