Jquery :: Flash SWF Not Initializing Until Visible - Can Force Them To Initialize?

May 4, 2010

I have an applicon that needs to render about 100 flash graphs (as well as other DOM stuff) in a series of rows that vertically extend many times beyond the current visible window - in other words, the users have to scroll down see see all the different graphs.This application is also dynamic and when a user changes a value in the DOM (anywhere on the page) it will need to propagate that change to all the Flash graphs at the same time.So I setup all the externalInterface callbacks and was careful to not let any JS start going until the ever-so-important "flashIsReady" call and...it worked great until I tried to update() the existing swf's with new data.

Here was the behavior:- All the swfs load (initially) in both IE/Fox = good.- Updating swfs with new content works in Fox --ONLY IF-- I scrolled down to the bottom of the page, then back to the top -- BEFORE -- I triggered an update().So then I started tracing out each time a swf called the JS to say "flash is ready" and I realized, Firfox only renders swfs as they become visible. And To be honest - that's fine and actually, I am pretty sure that IE does this too. But the problem is that not only does Firefox not initialize the swf, Firefox doesn't even acknowledge the swf exists (expect for after onload) if it has not yet been visible.

Flex :: Force The List To Load All The Items, Not Only The Visible Items?

Aug 15, 2010

I'm creating a facebook application in flex. I'm actually working on the friends component that shows your friends who are using the application. now, each friend has a profile image.

I created the component using a s:List element.

In the Skin Class of the element i configured the requestedColumnCount to 3, which means it shows 3 friends. i added buttons to scroll left and right in the list.

Whenever I scroll to see a different friend, for a half of a second i see no image because the List component is loading the image in order to view it.

is there a way to make the list preload all the elements so i won't have this kind of problem ?

public static var box:Sprite = new Sprite();
G.boxRef = box;

public static var cow:Cow=new Cow();and in the Cow class i have this:

and it throws me TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.

if I try to trace(G.boxRef) in Cow constructor - it traces undefined in the first frame, but next frames are fine. But why? Both variable "box", and reference to it are declared before declaring variable "cow"?

Javascript :: When Does A Browser Initialize Flash?

Dec 15, 2010

I am working on optimizing a page that has Flash on it. I am using optimization practices like moving Javascript to the bottom to not block. Removing inline scripts. And minimizing HTTP requests with minified css and js.The majority of the pages content is in the flash, so loading it as soon as possible is the goal. Currently there is a 2 ~ 3 second delay before the flash is even rendered (using firebug profiling)

I am wondering at what point in the page load does the browser start initializing flash on the page? Is it once the DOM element containing the flash has been rendered? Is it once the complete onload event has been fired? I imagine it probably differs with each browsers as well.

Jquery :: Ajax - White Screen Of Death Jquery Load() Html File With Swf?

Apr 19, 2011

I've looked high and low for an answer to this and I'm hoping someone has an answer, or at least a tip on how to avoid it.I'm loading a static HTML file into a container via the jQuery load() method. This static HTML file has a script which loads a swf. When I load that particular file, I get the white screen of death (WSOD) and the page explodes and everyone in the room dies a horrible death.I've had this happen also when using the jQuery wrap methods (wrap, wrapOuter, etc.) when a swf is present.It seems manipulating the DOM with a container that has a swf object causes this. Does anyone have a solution or a way that I can prevent it happening?

Jquery :: Get Jquery Working From An Externally Loaded Html Inside A Div?

May 3, 2011

I'm setting up a page that uses a flash menu to load html pages into a div container by the following call:

on (release){
getURL("javascript:getPage('test.html')");
}

The loading works fine, but some of my pages had specific jquery scripts and that's where I've struck out so far. I assumed all I needed to do was transfer the script importations, css stylesheets and the jquery functions to my main document, but it won't work.

I also tried importing the html as a the complete html, which works on it's own, but not when imported into the main document. Most recently I heard I should try shifting the jquery function calls to the end of the loaded document, to after the content, My scripts work, just not when imported, so I suppose my question is how can I make the main- and imported documents play nice with each other? What say you we make this a jump-start tutorial for all us noobs to reference?

Flash :: Is Vector.<Number> Impossible To Initialize With A Numeric Array

May 29, 2011

How would you go about initializing a Vector. with say the values 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5.

Logic would say you could do newVector = new Vector. ( [1, 2, 3, 4, 5] );

You could also try something like this...

var tmp = [1, 2, 3, 4, 5];
newVector = new Vector.();
newVector = newVector.concat(tmp);

But then you get a type error converting Array to Vector.

I'm stumped, am I missing something stupid or does the vector class really not play well with numeric types? You can try making them decimal numbers just to be sure they get cast as number and not int.

Html :: Initialize A Full-window Flash Object In Google Chrome?

Jan 27, 2011

I have a simple HTML file which embeds a Flash file. On the page styling I have a #flashContent with width:100% and height:100%; the Flash object itself has width="100%" and height=100% and is inside a div with id="flashContent". The idea is to make the Flash object (which is a game) to fill the whole browser window even as it resizes.

This works with no problems on IE and Firefox, but there is a small problem on Chrome. About 90% of the time when the page first loads all that is shown is black (the page's background color). The game only appears if the user resizes the window; from then on out it works correctly.

I'd like to ask if there is anything I am doing wrong or if there is an workaround to ensure the Flash game appears correctly on the Chrome browser.

Xml :: Initializing A Collection From MXML?

How do I write a combination of XML declarations and Actionscript classes such that I can initialize each of my three lists from XML?

note that I am not trying to populate a Flex UI element (such as a DataGrid) with the various number-name pairs. I'm just trying to read the data into a plain old vanilla collection. (Once I've got my collections initialized, I can populate DataGrids or whatever at my leisure.) I can't find any documentation of how to address this super-simple case. The documentation all assumes that I'm trying to do something much more complicated, such as accessing a remote database, which confuses the issue tremendously.

ActionScript 3.0 :: GTween - Document Class Not Initializing

Jul 15, 2010

I've been working on a project for a little while now, and only yesterday did it start acting up. I added a bunch of new classes, and then two new functions and a few variables in the document class and then tested it only to find that it didn't work. I put a trace statement at the very beginning of the class: nothing. I commented out the two functions: nothing. I commented out the variables, and this time it worked. So I uncommented the functions: stopped working. I decided to check through the variables to see which ones would work, if any. One of them, a GTween instance, did work.

This is in a custom classpath: com.gskinner.motion.GTween. I tried other variables: only a few of my custom classes work (also in the same com folder, but a different path obviously), a few classes from the bit101 path work, but not all of them. The compiler doesn't throw any errors, and output doesn't show anything. It just comes up with my background and that's it. I neglected to mention that it wouldn't even work with some of the classes in the current directory. Some of them were fine. Now, however, it works with those classes that didn't before, but GTween is a problem instead.
