View 2 RepliesI am trying to do is declare a variable in PHP and pass that variable to my flash file. Right now i am simply trying to do 1 easy variable, more will happen in the future but i need to figure this out first.I have used other forums and they say try this and that, but nothing i do seems to work. here is my code.
PHP Code:[code].....
I have the need to change a variable in a child Flash file.
The setup is a parent Flash file, that has called a child Flash, and placed it in a movieClip.
I can send a variable using Javascript to the parent Flash file, but not directly to the child Flash file. Is there a way that I can access the child Flash file directly with Javascript?
Or do I need to send the variable to the parent Flash file, and then have the parent send the variable to the child Flash file? Is there a sort of dot notation that I can use with Javascript to get to the child Flash file without first accessing the parent, when the child is added to the parent using the loadClip function in flash?
I have a problem with SharedObject. I created SharedObject using AS2.0 it's working fine.... my question is can it possible to store the variable values in an .txt file where the flash file is saved... basically the SharedObject will store the vallues in localdrive with file extention. not only using SharedObject if any other way to store the vaules in .txt file will be helpfull for me... my requirement is to store the the position of the swf file and when the time it reopen, it should start from previous position.

View 2 RepliesOn the stage I have a movieclip by the name of rect_mc. Inside it have have a MovieClip sqaure_mc.
In the time line that I get when I double click on rect_mc (timeline of rect_mc) I have written the following code
var width1:Number;
width1 = sqaure_mc.width;
How can I access width1 from the document class?
I know nothing about flash. I only need to change a few variables in a swf file. the swf file uses ../ for root directory, so, when I play this swf from other places than its designed directory, it will querry wrong URL.Edit: the swf are in this directory:root/domain/content/swfthe swf file has some ../url to querry files under the content directoryroot/domain/content/stuffs/items/filesIf I play the swf in another directory, for example, root/domain/topics/stories/jokes/then, the swf will querry root/domain/topics/stories/jokes/files, this is wrong. So I want to use a fixed expression to replace ../
View 1 RepliesPresently I'm building an interactive CD-ROM based presentation for stand alone individual machines. I'm using AutoPlay Media Studio 7 to package a flash movie along with a licensed adobe reader and adobe flash player. One of the buttons on the autoplay package will install and create folders and files on a local machine.
I've uploaded a file for you flash gurus out there to look at, it may help to examplify what I'm trying to achieve. What I'd like to do, is to be able to use a file (perhaps XML?) that the flash movie can reference and make changes to. If this is possible then such file would be included in the AutoPlay package (see background info above) and installed on the local machine.Security is an extremely low key issue here and the username password is simply a means for flash to lookup and recognise an existing user (if there is one) and set the states of some variables.
Why? - The project is like an interactive training manual with questions and animated examples split into 8 modules. I would like to be able to provide users a means with the of not having to review previous modules by logging in at the login frame.
Code:
Assigned to 'signInUser' button
on (release) {
if (user_name == storedUserName) {
if (pass_word == storedPassword) {

i m using as3 for my project
URLRequest("new.swf?abc="+1);
im sending my varaiable like this call a swf and sending variable... and i dont konw hoe to get the sent variable from file 1.
What I need to do is pass a variable into flash.
I've had success doing this by just adding the variable to the end of the embedded SWF URL (.../mymovie.swf?variable=value), but what I need is the ability to send the swf variables when certain links are clicked, without the page refreshing.
I'm guessing this has to be done somehow with a javascript onClick function.
I've looked into using externalInterface, but it seems overly complicated for this application.
I'm working on a stand-alone application and NOT a web-based application, so I'm trying to do this strictly with AS3, if possible. For example, if I have an XML file that looks like this:
Code:
<profile>
<username>Joe</username>
<password>Smith</password>
</profile>
How do I change the value of the USERNAME attribute via AS3?
I've tried something like this already:
var xmlData:XML();
...
xmlData = XML(event.target.data);
xmlData.profile.username = "Mary";
but when I open the XML file, it's not writing "Mary" in place of "Joe."
I am adding some movieclips dynamically to stage. If we click on the movieclips, they goto and stop at frame 2. The Click Event for the Movieclip is defined in the base class
Code:
package {
import flash.events.MouseEvent;
import flash.display.MovieClip;
[Code].....
But, I cannot figure out how to get the name of the movieclip.
I cannot add click event for movieclips in flash, because there is already a click event in the class file.
i try to acess a variable named <str> resides in php file from my as3 filebt i got this error
Error: Error #2101: The String passed to URLVariables.decode() must be a URL-encoded query string containing name/value pairs.

I am traying to make some sort of a simple forum in flash. Problem occurs when I want to output contents of flash variable to file.
For example: I have inputText = "hello world how are you" variable. How can I output this inputText to an text.txt file, so that in text.txt will bi written "hello world how are you".
I'm trying to create a simple SWF file that can receive the name of a FLV file in the HTML file and play it since I have many FLV files. Basically using the technique of FlashVars. I've set the contentPath/source in the components to be blank, and set my actions in the first frame to be player.source = filename, as was instructed to do so in a Flash book I am reading. I then set the "filename" variable to a file in the same path as the web page in the HTML file, however, all I get is a blank Flash player skin. The FLV file will not load. I also tried setting the "filename" variable to load the FLV from a public website in the same domain and on another domain, but it still doesn't work.
View 5 RepliesWe can auto-generate flex-confix xml file from flash-builder so to provide users that want to compile project on there own would be capable of doing such thing with out buying FB. So we use something like -dump-config slotConfig.xml as flex compiler argment. This generates a file for us... with lots of detailed comments like this one I generated from that project:
<flex-config>

Background: I have a project where i need to create multiple objects that consume the same base calss from an external .as file. each of the individual fla files that consume the base class need to pass a variable to the base class so the class can return information specific to the fla.
My question is,if i have an external class path set up, how do i get a variable on the first frame of the movie to be visible to the base class && how do i call upon its value from within the class.
I'm trying to load a simple variable &myVar from a php file into my flash movie, that's a blank movie with just actionscript in it.I tried to load this &myVar into a dynamic Text field and it works fine, but I can't get this value into a flash variable to manipulate it with actionscript.. I am trying to load an external variable text file into a movie but it is returning compiler errors. Please suggest a solution. The source code is ......
var myTextLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
myTextLoader.DataFormat=URLLoaderDataFormat.VARIAB LES;
myTextLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, onLoaded);

The external file is "gxcvrt.txt" while name, slogan, rep, button1-7 are the variables to be loaded.The compiler returns the following errors (highlighted in red)

I'm using flash CS4 and actionscript 2.0. I have a situation where I need to locate and check the date of an external file (either .exe or .swf) and return that date string to a variable in flash. I then need to display that date to a piece of dynamic text within the flash file. Is there a function within action script that will check and retrieve the file date of an external file.
