.net :: Convert PowerPoint Slides Into Images In The Server?
Aug 2, 2011
PowerPoint has an option of saving the file in other formats. Using this feature one can convert the slides into images.I want to develop an application where one can upload a .ppt file into my server and the application would convert the slides into images, without any manual intervention.

I am looking for libraries or solutions to convert a Microsoft PowerPoint file into a playable Flash file. The constraints are that I must be able to do this from Java, a webapp, that is running on a Linux-based server. I have been scouring Google and have only come up with two options: iSpring SDK -[URL] Option #1 is looking like it will be cost prohibitive based on initial conversations with the vendor (i.e. no price listed on web site). Option #2 seems non-ideal as it will require installing additional dependencies of OpenOffice and X11. This seems like too much overhead for what should be an inline solution.
Everything else I could find was either written only for Microsoft .NET or was just a PowerPoint plugin exporter. Any other solutions out there that are being buried by Google SEO? Can someone, maybe, convince me that the overhead of Option #2 really ain't that bad?
Update: I should clarify that I'm not opposed to reliance on a native library as long as it will compile on CentOS or, preferably, has a yum package available. I should, also, clarify, that I'm not opposed to a "for pay" option within realms of reasonable.

My compnay provides webcasting services to numerous clients, and we currently use Windows Media Encoder as our base software for these projects. However, I'm interested in switching to Flash Media Server, but need to figure out one issue and how to implement it in such a way like how we are currently using Windows Media Encoder.
We need a way to stream out a live audio/video feed AND have a way to control a presenter's POWERPOINT slides and have them advance by our command when streaming live.
Basically, the way we do it is we will stream out audio/video from WME and also use the encoder's SCRIPTING functions to send out a "url" from the encoder to the actual page in which the viewer is watching the live embedded stream. On that page is an embeded/internal frame which we can specify (using the id/name) that the url gets loaded, and this actually advances the slides (or more so pulls up a pre-created html page of the next slide in the person's powerpoint, which is actually a screenshot or exported image of that slide and embedded within a specific HTML file and hosted on the same server as the embedded player/html file)
Would there be a way to send out this same type of script using FMS? I've been playing around with it and notice the interface itself does not have a built in scripting function like Windows Media Encoder does. However, I did read somewhere that it supports ActionScript... but I have no clue how to implement this feature.
I am just curious how it might be able to go about doing this? Is there a way to use an [action]script with FMS and have it send out a URL to a specific frameset embedded on the same page as the Flash Media Encoder Playback?
Hopefully this make sense and that someone can point me in the right direction. Switching to FMS over Windows Media Encoder is the way I would love to go, just need to figure out how this could be done.
Would a better method be converting the powerpoint slides to a swf or flv file, embedding that file within the same page as the FMS playback, and somehow using a script to "advance" the frames/slides/scenes within that file? I also heard something about Flash "Shared Objects" and how this could be a way of controlling a swf file remotely.

I'm trying to create a flash video that will incorporate powerpoint-like slides along with video footage. So for instance I will have slide 1 (graphic) - slide 2 (video clip) - slide 3 (text). I have used CS4 before for one of my classes but that was a little while ago, and I feel like I'm starting over again. When I import the first graphic (.png), is there an option to have it resize to fit the stage?

How hard is it to import a powerpoint presentation into flash. It would be perfect for me if the output would look like this: every powerpoint slide becomes a movieclip or a .swf file. I don't have any animations and sounds, its just text and images. I know i could save the slides to png but its very bad idea using bitmaps for text in flash. I also cant use programs like slideshare, because they add their own navigation bars and i cant use them offline.

I'm working a project where images expand 50px on roll_over and then retract on roll_out. On roll_over the images overlap and I use the setChildIndex to keep the target on top. This works fine. What I'm having issues with is the border that is displayed on roll_over. The first time I cycle through the images, everything works fine, after that only the image stays on top, the border slides underneath the other images. I looked up the Adobe 'setChildIndex' I'm afraid I don't understand the numChildren-1 thing.

I have 2 movie clips, one names mc_frame01 and another mc_frame02. I've tried to set variables and arguments to make it easier when theres more mc_frameXX's. All I want the animation to do is first MC slides in from the right, pauses, then slides off to the left. Then repeat for each MC. With the code below, both MC's seem to slide in from the right at the same time and that's it.

I have a flash file sitting inside of a web page in our company domain. There is another server (used to store images) that is part of the domain but is not running any web services (for security reasons). A folder on the images server is however shared in such a way that any site on the web server can display images from the images server as long as the user is plugged into the domain. For example, both I and my boss can pull up a web site on the web server and see all the information, but only he can see the images
because I have Vista Basic and no domain support. This is done via "<img src='\serverNamedirectory.'/>"
That's ok, but on this particular instance I don't want to display the image on the webpage, I want it in a SWF on the page. However the SWF can't seem to load the images even though the page it's sitting in could. I've tried tons of variations of URLRequests and Loaders, most resulting in security errors. Since most of the online discussions about these errors revolve around cross-domain access, I can't seem to find any tech support for our specific situation.

I have a set of 50 PNG image slices (cross sections) of a brain that I would like to stack together to re-create a 3D object (the whole brain) that can be rotated, zoomed inside a webpage. I will need to create the 3D object? Can I use Adobe? What will the file format be for the completed 3D object, does it need to be .3DS? And what web programming language do i need to display this 3D object once I create it? Can I use javascript to code the webpage interactivity part (zoom, rotate in 3 axes)?

I'm trying to load a bunch (about 100) of images into memory, so I can display them at various times. Originally I had simply embedded them, but that of course resulted in the swf file being larger than I wanted. So now I'm trying to change it to load them in the background because they aren't needed immediately.There are probably plenty of problems with this. The current on is that I'm getting an error that says 'TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert "foo.jpg" to Class.'
I've been googling this awhile, assuming loading an external image is a common thing. That's where I got the Loader and URLRequest code, but I'm clearly missing something. Maybe it's due to my goofy looping logic.Here's the class so far
public class CardImages2
{
public static var fooImage1:Class;[code]....

I'm trying to build an AIR app to convert a group of png images in my desktop to SWFs.So far I can do that using PNGEncoder to convert the loaded images into a byteArray and then using another ByteArray to generate the swf.The problem is I want to compress the images as well and PNGEncoder class doesn't support compression. I triyed with JPGEncoder, which supports compression, but it wont support transparency.
What I'm trying to do is something like the properties menu in the Flash IDE where you can select a png and apply a jpg compression to it. And when you export the png's transparency is preserved.The point of this is so is easy to convert, lets say, 100 pngs into swfs (without having to load each one of them into flash, adjust document size, export, ...)

For the past while, my developer has been working with me on a small project to put together a live interactive whiteboard app, powered by Flash Media Interactive Server. Well, everything is finished & ready to go, but there seems to be a big problem:
The app was developed & tested on a windows machine, while my server and all my website files (to integrate with) is on a Linux system.
It's been a month since this problem arrose, and there had not been any further progress with this project for the time. My developer doesn't seem to know much about how the 'conversion process' works, if there is one.
Do you know if this is possible (to convert a windows-programmed app to work on a linux system)? If so, do you know roughly how it should be handled?

I'd like to create a button in FlashMX which, when pressed will open a PowerPoint file. I came across a tutorial on how to use the FSCOMMAND "exec" to trigger a batch file which then triggers the PowerPoint file. This however did not work... If I double click on the batch file, the PP file will open as required so it seems to be the command in Flash that's causing a problem.

I'm using flash instead of powerpoint for a presentation. I want to use a remote clicker (like people use in pp presentations).I have one that works, but only when the cursor in on top of one of the buttons in the actual presentation. Icanmake the buttons in flash to travel backward and forward along the timeline, or to move to different movies etc. But I would like to use a clicker that will allow the presenter to just click a button to go back, and click the other button to go forward, without having to reposition the cursor on the laptop over the button he wants to interact with. Doesthis make sense? I have an invisible button in the lower left and right hand corners ofthe presentation. the remote clicker works, but only when it is over one of thsoe buttons. But the remote clicker is set up for powerpoint with a next slide and previous slide button that would be much more handy to use.

When I wanted to insert a SWF into a PowerPoint 2007 presentation, I would use the More Controls dialog in PowerPoint's Developer tab to insert a Shockwave/Flash object. But in PowerPoint 2010, that control is missing from the dialog. Where did it go? When I click the Register Custom DLL, there's no obvious file to choose, either.
Has anyone else run into this? I'm not looking for a way to convert a SWF into a video that can be embedded or using a 3rd-party plug-in or anything like that. I know how to do those things. I'm specifically looking to insert a SWF using only what's built into PowerPoint and Flash

I've been running into issues with the compression of my flash animations when imbedding them into powerpoint. The .mov files provide sharp playback, but after they are converted to mp4, the resolution drops. I need mp4 files so that the movies are compatible with both Mac and PC versions of powerpoint. I have changed the settings to increase the frames per second, and have the highest qualities selected when converting from .mov to .mp4 without luck.
Is there a better way to convert .fla to .mp4 for PC Powerpoint compatibility?

Placing swf file into powerpoint as per the correct procedure,1) developer tab, hammer/spanner icon, hit s and scroll to shockwave flash object, clear slide and draw out a shockwave flash object box, r/c properties, put path of swf into movie part of shockwave Flash object properties box. run movie.Movie runs fine, then when returning to that slide, or the powerpoint presentation is re-run, (there is a need in the safety lecture to rerun the presentation again and again) the movie is still stuck on the last frame.There is a supposed fix atSurely with big players on the field like Adobe and Microsoft there has to be a solution to this. This should have been resolved long ago. We forever see that flash plays in powerpoint mentuioned on the net, NO IT DOESNT ! apparently
