ActionScript 3.0 :: Creating Multiple MovieClip Masks Dynamically?

I have made a movieClip (mcMask) which I can use to mask another movieClip containing a bg image (mcImage). I have given the image movieClip an instance name(bg_mc) and I have given the mask movieClip a class of "Mask" in the "linkage" field. Now, I want to create multiple "Mask" movieClips using AS3 and use these to mask the image movieClip (bg_mc).The problem comes when I want to call the instance names of the "Mask" movieClips and set them to be the .mask value of the image movieClip.Because they are created from a class dynamically they don't have instance names. Is there a way to easily give them all instance names and then call them to use as masks? Or is there another way of calling them without assigning instance names?

Code:
//creates Var to create new "Mask" movieClips
var timer:Timer = new Timer(100, 999999);

ActionScript 2.0 :: Set Properties - Get Properties - Change An Mc Name Dynamically?

Sep 14, 2005

Just been playing around with the tutorials, on the Set properties/Get properties. Everything is all cool, except the "instance name" aspect. I dnt really understand that too well. Is it possible to change an Mc Name dynamically? If you look at my FLA when you hit the top left red button you will get a trace of the mcName as "square". Now if you input a new mc Name on the right hand side, you will see it change on the left hand side. But i want to know why it doesnt remain as the new mc Name, it still goes back to square.

ActionScript 2.0 :: [FMX] Creating A Simple Read & Write Database In Flash?

Feb 4, 2005

I'm working on this flash game right now and I need to implement a simple players database...

It needs to be both read and writable . Meaning, when the player register to save his character information , he needs to key in his email and a password and create an account. The account shall store that player's life amount, ammunition etc . All the infos are stored on an external file and retrieved again when the player logins to the game with the email as his login ID. Security issues are not the biggest concern here because its not exactly meant to be an online game and I don't think hacking would be something I need to worry about ^^'''

I've tried Xml with AS, but I realised that, that alone canot allow me to write the player's info into the xml file.

I'm not exactly an mySQL idiot...but I really have very(x2) rusty and limited knowledge of it. All the server topics confuses me and I've had no experience with Microsoft Access.

I have a simple AS3 class that just holds private variables. Each private variable has a getter function, but not all of them have setter functions. At runtime, Is there a way of telling which properties do not have setters but are read-only? Then I can decide to give the user an input field to edit the properties that have setters.

IDE :: Read Certain Properties Of A Keyframed Movieclip Animation?

Jan 18, 2010

I'm wiriting some code to read certain properties of a keyframed movieclip animation. The idea is that an animater will create an animation, the code will record the animation as it plays, then the numberd that have been saved can be used later. x, y, rotation, xScale and yScale all did swimmingly well. skewX and skewY come out as undefined, on every frame. They're both used in the movie (typically around 4 - 8 degrees). They're never the same as each other.

ActionScript 1/2 :: Read Properties From Dictionary Objects In Native Extension?

I am working on a native extension for Flash. I am going to invoke my native methods from Flash and pass Dictionary objects where those objects have various data members of various data types. These property types are dynamic and might not be known at compile time.So I found that we have a method called FREGetObjectProperty that says it can return the value given the property name. But in this case since we dont know the property name since it is dynamic, how to extract the property names and values from the Dictionary objects?

Actionscript 3 :: Read All Values From Properties File That Match Certain Key Pattern?

Mar 12, 2012

I've got a properties file with two distinct key-value pair patters like the following;name.name.name.key = valuename.name.fullname.key = valueAccessing them one by one is fine if the key is known. What I need now, though, is to access ALL values from say name.name.name without knowing the keys (integers to be exact). The values then have to be added to an ArrayList to be displayed in a List. The keys are completely random, so I don't know the range beforehand (I can't and don't want to hardcode the range of range of keys for each single properties file), so simply looping through a previously defined range isn't what I need here. Also, the keys are not successive.

How can I do this with AS3?Just for clarification as this seems to be a little confusing;I do not want to parse the properties file. I rather want to solve this using the methods AS and Flex already provide. The ResourceBundle class already has a method that outputs the content of the specified bundle. However, it contains all values. What I need is just a subset of values that match a given key pattern.Edit:To make this easier, I can drop the key pattern matching and create a new resource file with a distinct pattern. Now I only need to get all key-value pairs (I need both the integers from the keys and the value) from that resource.

Actionscript 3 :: Flash - Multiple Frames - Alter Symbol Properties

if you have an active state and a passive state for something, you can jump between the two with gotoAndStop(2), gotoAndStop(1); or you can manipulate whatever property is changing directly (e.g. if it's alpha, then symb.alpha=0.5, symb.alpha = 1.0). I've found myself jumping between the two, and I don't like it (I like to have a standard, or at least a usual). What's considered a good practice

ActionScript 3.0 :: Creating Your Own Properties For An Object?

Sep 11, 2008

Back in the day (AS2), I used to create what I called an"ivar" property that collected the index of a series of buttonsthat were clickable (see attached code). Imagine 10 buttons on thestage with names (selectButton0, selectButton1, ...selectButton9).The code under the //----------BUTTONS header would make a propertyof the button that was clicked, call it "ivar" and then send it upto a function that would use it as an index to then load theappropriate content with MovieClipLoader (remember that Class?).I have tried something similar in AS3 without any luck sincethe whole button thing is now steered by events. Does anybody knowan elegant solution that would achieve a similar result. That is,click a button called "selectButton0" and have returned the zero asan index variable that could be used further?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Getting Movie Properties Dynamically?

Sep 3, 2003

Currently I have a stage.swf (the parent) which loads child movies "inside itself" into an area called external.

Currently, for each of these movies I have to set properties in stage such as:

Movie Name,
Movie Title,
Length (how many frames)

Now, the annoying part of this is the length. If at any point I decide I want to add or remove a scene from a child, I have to reset the relevant "length" variable on stage.

what I really want to know is, is there a way that when each of the child movies load, stage can find out dynamically how many frames they have?

I can create a Movie Class to have all these variable declarations in one place, but that doesn't really solve the problem I have. I'd still have to manually go through and change variables ad hoc....
