Jan 31, 2010It appears my sound is off sync and the longer I play the movieclip, the farther off sync it goes. Its nothing too complicated, just some basic shooting sounds that fire every time I hit the space bar. My code is below:

The Attack() method gets called from another class that handles all keyboard controls.when it gets called the sound then plays.firesound and firesound2 are almost the same. firesound2 sounds a little off pitch to make it sound more realistic.At first the sound sounds pretty good, not great. but then it gets terrible as time passes.
I made a new .fla project. and I attached the following class to it by it self. so the following is the only code in the entire .fla project and the issue still occurs. I press the spacebar and the sound starts a day late.

What I would like to do is go a step further and synchrinize the sound with the swinging sign.I've seen some tutorials about synking imported sound with animation - but is there a way to also synk an external sound?

Mar 10, 2011I am a beginner using AS3 and working on an eLearning lesson using a Flash animation as a breathing exercise. The animation works well, but I need to synchronize 2 breathing sounds with the inhale-exhale animation cycles.I can import the inhale.mp3 and exhale.mp3 into the library. But then, I am not sure how to control play so that when the animation's inhale cycle is displaying (circle on stage expands for a time using a variable for duration, in microseconds: _inhaleDuration), the inhale.mp3 plays until the _inhaleDuration completes. After the inhaling animation, the animation cycle has a brief pause (no sound), then the animation displays the circle contracting for the time in the variable, _exhaleDuration, during which time I need the exhale.mp3 to play its breathing sound. Each sound needs to be synchronized to play only as long as the animation inhale or exhale duration.
I've been reading about sound files online and trying to figure out how to control play by duration using these 2 variables (_inhaleDuration, _exhaleDuration) but so far have not found this. So, I'm stuck and hope someone can provide suggestions, sample AS3 script, so I can add this feature to the animation's Tween function, that expands and contracts the circle, so it also has sounds.
Flash :: Actionscript - Synchronizing 2 Sound Channels?
Sep 9, 2011I am using 2 sound channels to play 2 separate, externally loaded mp3 files at the same time. Right now I have the play button tied to a function that starts the first mp3, then the 2nd. The problem is - the 2nd mp3 starts a few milliseconds after the first. Is there a way that I can make sure these 2 start playing at the exact same time?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Highlighting Specific Areas Of Text In A Dynamic Text Box?
Oct 20, 2007I'm currently trying to work out a method to highlight specific areas of text within a dynamic text field at runtime. The method I've been toying with so far has been the use of CSS highlighting, but have not seemed to have any luck thusfar. What I'm attempting to do is to illustrate, to students, sections within a passage of text pertaining to correct methods of source referencing (source in terms of bibilographical references), and so am essentially trying to change the background colour of sections of text specified at runtime.Here's some code I've thrown together to test the CSS theory:

I noticed that if you highlight the text with your mouse multiple times really fast, the text will sometimes dissapear. whats up with that?
You have to be fast in order to initiate this bug, click and highlight and do it multiple times really fast.
They are dynamic textfields of type TextField.

Aug 1, 2011I want to use it for what seems like a fairly simple application, but I am having a terrible time finding any tutorials that address this specific need. I've been through basic "how to us Flash CS5" training but I'm having trouble making the connection between the skills taught and what I'm trying to accomplish.
I have a static paragraph of text - black on a plain white background. I would like each sentence to highlight with a yellow box behind it as the audio for that sentence is read. I would like a user to be able to hear the entire passage, but also be able to click on individual sentences and hear them separately.

Nov 20, 2009The movie I am working on has a dynamic text field which I setup and format in the constructor of the ActionScript 3.0 class code for the movie - I am working with CS3 Flash. I do not reformat the text field anywhere in the code after the constructor.The text displays in the text field perfectly as long as I do not highlight the text when running the movie.
If I highlight the text in the text box as if I were going to copy and paste, the next time text is written to the text field the font type and size changes. The only way to reset the font formatting is to restart the movie.
Is there a solution or workaround? Of course I can reformat the text everytime I write new text to the textfield, but during the course of the movie text is rewritten to the textfield many times.

Sep 21, 2011I'm trying to maintain a web applications state across multiple tabs whilst using ActionScript, JavaScript, and PHP. Should I use AJAX to update the database after an item has been purchased etc, or should I prevent the game being loaded if it's already open in a single tab (if so how could I achieve this)?
I'm building a facebook game, when the user buys an item and has many open tabs it doesn't update the state in the other open tabs. The buying of an item is handled by ActionScript, and the storage of that item is dealt with using PHP.

Feb 8, 2011I have an mp3 audio file with some narration and I also have a bunch of images that should change each other on the screen depending on a cue phrases in audio. My question is what will be the best approach to the task. Is it possible to lay out sound and images in timeline the way it was possible in Director? If so, is there any way to automatically extend audio to the number of frames needed to cover its duration? Or do I need to convert an mp3 audio in some video format (flv) in Soundbooth, add cue points, then import video to Flash (what should be the video settings so the Flash accepts it) and use ActionScript to trigger the "slide show"

Media Server :: Synchronizing RSOs In Whiteboard Application
May 2, 2010I have prepared a CUSTOM WHITEBOARD. This whiteboard is shared by two clients. They BOTH can draw on the board using TOOLS in the WHITEBOARD PANEL SET of the application. When someone DRAWS I do following actions:
1: Capture the WHITEBOARD FULL AREA/CANVAS using jpgEncoder().
2: Then I send this BYTEARRAY to the FMS server as Remote Shared Object.
3: The client then draws that RSO onto the WHITEBOARD.
Pretty simple though.
BUT, I am having synchronization ISSUES. The issues are as follows:
Issue 1: Image updates with no synchronization and seems to be zig-zag/random when they both draw at a normal speed.

Is this possible, and if so, how would I go about doing it?
I will be using Flash 8. I know how to animate, but I know nothing of ActionScripting. I'm a web designer, not a developer.
(I'm aware I could make the menu in Flash as well, but I personally don't care for having navigation set in a Flash .swf.)

Nov 6, 2009I'm doing site menus in Flash/Action Script. Each top level menu heading is a button with a standard look and rollover/click that is highlighted. The code waits for a mouse-over and runs a function that moves the movie to a frame that displays the relevant drop down menus (with buttons) under the top level menu. When a dropdown item is clicked, the code runs a function and the appropriate URL is loaded.Everything works fine but here's my one problem (isn't there always one...?).
The top level menus always look the same on every page. It would be nice to highlight the top level button that corresponds to the page currently being displayed. For example, if the user selected About Us..History, then it would be nice to make the About Us top level button remain highlighted (over/down state) instead of reverting back to the standard look (up).1. What do you suggest as the most efficient way to do this? I know ther must be a simple way of doing it. I haven't used Flash variables but I imagine that calling the flash movie with a variable and then acting upon the value of that variable might be the way to go.2. How do I highlight a particular menu/button?Can I use code to cause it to display in over or down state instead of regular up state? Is it better to overlay a separate graphic showing the item in highlighted state?

Jan 28, 2011this is the first time I have used flash pro.I just edited the menu and everything works perfectly except for the highlighting of the link on the current page. If im on the home page, home is correctly highlighted. However after that it skips the next button (about). So when I am on the about page the next button (events) is highlighted.
