With AS2 is it possible to use the current frame postion of the main timeline A to control the position of two mc timelines B,C relative to the current frame postion of mc D?the main and mc timelines have the same No of frames.Inverse control by D of B,C relative to A is also required!

I have some main time line variables I need to access and manipulate from inside a movieclip timeline. However, when I try to subtract from a global variable, one that's declared on the main timeline on frame 1 outside of a function/whatever, it says:Symbol 'lemon_cup', Layer 'actions', Frame 1, Line 54 1120: Access of undefined property lemons1.

I Have a flashmovie thats almost done and will soon hit the internet, but I want to add some animations into the website it�s two gears that I�m about to put at the bottom of the page and when a button releases in the main flashmovie the two bottom gears will turn a few frames and just stand still.These three movies are all separate (main movie, first gear and second gear).
It's a homepage designed in HTML and flash that has this "main flashmovie" in the middle of the screen, the size is about 1500(width)X800(height). And the gears is about 800wX200h placed at the left and right side bottom of the page. Dont worry the site is easy to apply to any screen resolution.I have been looking everywhere for any soul out there who suffering from the same problem but no success. Is it possible to script a button in the main movie to launch two separate movies in their own contents?

I have an animation of a swinging sign that is accompanied by a squeaking/swinging sound that is loaded externaly.. What I would like to do is go a step further and synchrinize the sound with the swinging sign.I've seen some tutorials about synking imported sound with animation - but is there a way to also synk an external sound?

I'm trying to maintain a web applications state across multiple tabs whilst using ActionScript, JavaScript, and PHP. Should I use AJAX to update the database after an item has been purchased etc, or should I prevent the game being loaded if it's already open in a single tab (if so how could I achieve this)?
I'm building a facebook game, when the user buys an item and has many open tabs it doesn't update the state in the other open tabs. The buying of an item is handled by ActionScript, and the storage of that item is dealt with using PHP.

I am a beginner using AS3 and working on an eLearning lesson using a Flash animation as a breathing exercise. The animation works well, but I need to synchronize 2 breathing sounds with the inhale-exhale animation cycles.I can import the inhale.mp3 and exhale.mp3 into the library. But then, I am not sure how to control play so that when the animation's inhale cycle is displaying (circle on stage expands for a time using a variable for duration, in microseconds: _inhaleDuration), the inhale.mp3 plays until the _inhaleDuration completes. After the inhaling animation, the animation cycle has a brief pause (no sound), then the animation displays the circle contracting for the time in the variable, _exhaleDuration, during which time I need the exhale.mp3 to play its breathing sound. Each sound needs to be synchronized to play only as long as the animation inhale or exhale duration.
I've been reading about sound files online and trying to figure out how to control play by duration using these 2 variables (_inhaleDuration, _exhaleDuration) but so far have not found this. So, I'm stuck and hope someone can provide suggestions, sample AS3 script, so I can add this feature to the animation's Tween function, that expands and contracts the circle, so it also has sounds.

I have an mp3 audio file with some narration and I also have a bunch of images that should change each other on the screen depending on a cue phrases in audio. My question is what will be the best approach to the task. Is it possible to lay out sound and images in timeline the way it was possible in Director? If so, is there any way to automatically extend audio to the number of frames needed to cover its duration? Or do I need to convert an mp3 audio in some video format (flv) in Soundbooth, add cue points, then import video to Flash (what should be the video settings so the Flash accepts it) and use ActionScript to trigger the "slide show"

I am using 2 sound channels to play 2 separate, externally loaded mp3 files at the same time. Right now I have the play button tied to a function that starts the first mp3, then the 2nd. The problem is - the 2nd mp3 starts a few milliseconds after the first. Is there a way that I can make sure these 2 start playing at the exact same time?

I have prepared a CUSTOM WHITEBOARD. This whiteboard is shared by two clients. They BOTH can draw on the board using TOOLS in the WHITEBOARD PANEL SET of the application. When someone DRAWS I do following actions:
1: Capture the WHITEBOARD FULL AREA/CANVAS using jpgEncoder().
2: Then I send this BYTEARRAY to the FMS server as Remote Shared Object.
3: The client then draws that RSO onto the WHITEBOARD.
Pretty simple though.
BUT, I am having synchronization ISSUES. The issues are as follows:
Issue 1: Image updates with no synchronization and seems to be zig-zag/random when they both draw at a normal speed.

I want to develop is a multiplayer TD game, and Im concerned about how to sync the players, I mean, its possible that at some times the map would be crowed with units everywhere.. is that an issue that has to be considered in order to make all players view the same at all times?.

Im making a movie with a menu that loads movie clips according to which menu is selected simple enough. However, the newly loaded movie clip also needs to allow the user to load another movie into the main movie effectively swapping the first movie clip with the second. This needs to be done without using the main menu.

I have a main timeline with a button. I need the action for this button to gotoAndStop to a frame within a movieclip, within another movieclip. I have tried on the main timeline setting the actions of the button to:
on (release){
clip1.clip2.gotoAndStop("frame1");
}
and tried:
on (release){
_root.clip1.clip2.gotoAndStop("frame1");
}
lastly:
on (release){
_parent.clip1.clip2.gotoAndStop("frame1");
}
If I double-click on the movie clip (clip1) and then double-click on the movie clip (clip2), I have several frames labeled "frame1", "frame2", etc.The button doesn't work.

Working on an RPG type flash, and I have to be able to control a text-box from quite a few locations. The one that is causing me trouble is the inventory. I need to be able to access the textbox with an instance of "statusWindow" from within the inventory clip (instance name "inventory"), so when I mouse over an item within the movieclip it will change the status window on the stage.In this instance I want to mouse over inventory.invHealth from the main timeline to get the display.itemName and itemProps are strings containing information about the item.I tried the following but it gave me a "possibly undefined" error.

I have a scrollpane in my library.Inside a movieclip, I create an image gallery and add it to the scrollpane.I do this in this function.[code]Now everything works fine, and no problems occur.I do however get the runtime error TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at fl.containers::ScrollPane/endDrag()It doesnt seem to affect my file, but I am sure it would be better to try and get rid of it.I think it has something to do with adding my movieclip to the main movieclip, and maybe.I am not removing it when I add a different movieclip.Whenever I add a movieclip to the main one, I use container_mc.addChild(...);Does addChild check to see if a movieclip already exist, and remove it if it does? Or do I need to remove my clips beforehand?

I needed to access mcBtn from _parent timeline AS WELL, so i defined a method mcBtn.onPress [one which is not defined inside mcBtn yet], and inside onPress told mcBtn to animate some other content.... What happened is, that onPress works fine and after pressing Btn, requested content is animated, BUT all other methods defined inside mcBtn stopped working! [no animation when rollOvered, rollOut-ed, onRelease-d]
Q: how to make all those methods work?

I have an event listener which is listening for a click in a the button 'home_btn';
ActionScript Code:

However I am getting 'Access of undefined property home_btn. in the compiler errors. I presume this is because the home_btn is in another timeline/movie clip called 'opacity'. How do I define it?

I have created a MovieClip "Main" that have a class file "Main.flv" attached to it. Inside this movieclip I have several buttons and movieclips.The problem I have is with the reference "this" inside the class file.When I write "this" I get a reference to my movieclip "Main". But when I write this.button I dont get a reference to my buttons inside the "Main" movieclip. The button have an instanse name "button".

I have all my layers made and graphic symbols in each layer.I want to create a timeline for my graphic to fade in and out. (Know how to do that)When I lock my main layer and work within my selected layer:1. drag the graphic onto the stage2. select a frameThis is where the problem comes in:My main layer (with my background) disappears and I'm left working on a white stage (not a problem I know how to make the stage a color)When I test the movie:I get white - no motion - and then the background flashes quickly. Flash CS4, ActionScript2.0 - I have a button and an input text box in a movieclip.When the button is clicked, I need the movie to jump to a frame on the main timeline and have the text that was entered into the input box in the mc, show up in a dynamic text box in the frame on the main timeline.I finally got the movie to jump using 'with (_root) gotoAndPlay ("frame label"), but I can't get the input text value (in the mc) assigned to the dynamic text box (on the main timeline).I've tried several versions of relative and absolute paths in the assignment statement, using variable names and instance names, tried 'with' and 'this' but no matter what I do, nothing shows up in the dynamic text box.

I'm aware that ActionScript 3.0 is designed from the ground up to be a largely object-oriented language and using it means less or even no timeline code in Flash documents.I'm quite experienced with OOP and am comfortable writing classes. However, since I mostly use Flash for animations, I hardly ever need to write ActionScript code other than for preloaders, subtitles, quality controls, website links and so on. In fact, I still set my Flash movies to use AS2 to this day because I'm used to gotoAndPlay()/gotoAndStop(), AS2 preloaders, subtitles, quality controls and even getURL(). Of course, I really want to move on now that practically everyone's on Flash Player 9 or 10 and now that I've dabbled with other OO languages like Java, C# and Objective-C too.
I'm a complete newcomer to AS3 and am not very learned with AS2 either. Considering my current use of ActionScript, are there any cases where it's still OK to use very simple AS3 code in the timeline instead of moving code to a class, especially since moving to a class might mean unnecessarily increasing the number of LOC from 4 to 40?

I did the drop down menu tutorialut I don't know how to assign actions that will affect the main timeline, Right now assigning any actions to the buttons only affects the timeline within the drop down menu timeline. An example of what I want to do is apply a goto action to one of the buttons that goes to a frame on the main movie timeline.

It appears my sound is off sync and the longer I play the movieclip, the farther off sync it goes. Its nothing too complicated, just some basic shooting sounds that fire every time I hit the space bar. My code is below:

The Attack() method gets called from another class that handles all keyboard controls.when it gets called the sound then plays.firesound and firesound2 are almost the same. firesound2 sounds a little off pitch to make it sound more realistic.At first the sound sounds pretty good, not great. but then it gets terrible as time passes.
I made a new .fla project. and I attached the following class to it by it self. so the following is the only code in the entire .fla project and the issue still occurs. I press the spacebar and the sound starts a day late.

What I want to know is how to I access movie clips in different timelines in AS3.I want to be able to change the color of some movie clips. If I can access them directly there's no problem. Problem is when I try to access a movie clip that's inside another movie clip AND on frame 10.what I have is this:
