Jun 7, 2009I've managed to piece together a flash website with my limited as3 knowledge. The text is loaded from external text files and styled with an external css file.
It's working perfectly in Firefox and Explorer but it only works SOME of the time in Safari (on my mac).It's hit and miss. Sometimes it styles the text sometimes it doesn't.

Jan 30, 2009I'm going to be building a site for a photographer and would like to be able to do something like the thumbnail navigation in this example: [URL] I'm assuming it's adding the thumbnails to the Display Object via an array based on an external XML file, and displaying them once their corresponding full-size images are loaded ... Perhaps it's building the nav simply by looking to see how many photos there are in a folder on the server (i.e. no discreet XML added for each shot). Not sure if this idea is even possible -- would like to hear from any of you if in fact it is.

May 28, 2007Structure: There is 1 main file that loads external SWF files depending on what is clicked on.One of the external SWF files loads its text from external text files. This works fine when viewing the SWF applet on its own. But when viewing as a whole site, the text doesnt appear. Very annoying.I made that particular SWF on my mums computer running Flash MX 2004The flash file itself uses the Scrollbar component from MX.Could someone tell me why the text doesnt load in this scenario? It runs fine on its own, just not as an external SWF.

Now, loading this text by loadText i need it to begin with "n=". Is it possible to add for example "n=" in front of the text outside the text ediotr? I can get the data loaded without the "n=" mark by a code like this:

May 16, 2005I turn to you for help, dear sweet Kirupa Forumites. First, let me explain the problem: I have a flash file reading an external text file for the content. Everything works perfectly for nearly everyone - you click a menu button, and the content text comes up fine. However, a couple of people have found that the text shows up as "undefined". I have checked the player versions of the people where it doesn't work, and it is the same as for those where it does work, so that ain't the problem.
I don't understand why it works perfectly for nearly everyone, but a small number of people have this "undefined" text problem. It seems to be a problem with loading the external text file, but I don't know why. I have a main flash movie, and load the text in the first frame, using the following:

I then have a couple of dynamic text boxes in the main movie - one called ErrorText (for displaying an error message to the user) and one called ContentText (for displaying the content). I use an external menu swf which jumps to a specific frame in the main movie, depending on which button is clicked. Actionscript on the main movie frame for the first button does the following, with the other frames similarly configured:
ContentText.htmlText = my_content.content1;
stop();
My external text file is properly configured (content1=blah blah&content2=other blah blah) etc.
Does anyone have any advice on how I can solve this particular weird problem??

q0=text&q1=text2&q3=text3 etc.
so how can i pick these q's at random and place it in my textbox?i've tried this:

Feb 11, 2010I am working in Flash CS4 (AS3).What I have created is basically a simple photo gallery. About 5 thumbs that when rolled over a larger version appears. Both the thumbnail images and larger images are loading dynamically.I've got that working.What it's missing is a headline and a sub headline for each pic that comes up. I need to do this from an external text file.
I was able to do this with AS2.AS3 not so much. How do I control the content of multiple dynamic text boxes on different places throughout the timeline with an external text file in AS3? I just want to name different text boxes different names and have the external text file pass the variables into my swf for each text box.

May 17, 2009I've got a problem loading an external text file into a text field.The text field is named: myTextField_txt.It's Dynamic and multiline. I want it to load a text file called: myText. txt.
