ActionScript 3.0 :: How To Put Strings / Functions Into Arrays

Dec 6, 2010

When I experimented with it, I tried to push one string and one function named "moveRight" into the array,
Code:
_behaviours.push("1", moveRight);
trace("_behaviours: " +_behaviours);

But when I trace the content of the array, I get
Code:
_behaviours: 1,function Function() {}

Why is my function moveRight, being renamed to "Function", and how do I call the different functions if I have several of them in one array? The purpose of all this is to make a simple AI system for my game enemies. After the enemies are added to stage, a special function would calculate a random number based on the number of entries in the array and then make the enemy perform the chosen function.

long time admirer of the wisdom on this board! I am having a little trouble thinking of a solution to this little problem.So in AS2 (will make the jump to as3 soon, i promise )I have some code that makes arrays of the formn, e, se, e, n they are only 5 elements long at mostI load in some XML with similar arrays, i would love to know if you guys have any suggestions on how i can work out the percentage difference between these arrays.It will be for a gesture recognition type app, but in essence i suppose this section of the code is a spell checker that gives a suggestion for the best match from a custom dictionary.

ActionScript 2.0 :: MX Multiple Strings To Dynamic Textfield?

Feb 12, 2005

I have multiple mc's that contain input textfields. I want the results of these to appear one after another in the same dynamic textfield. Later they will be sorted alphabetically.

So far, I've been able only to get one item to appear at a time in the dynamic textfield--the next item replaces the first. A for loop didn't work.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to get the new text string to be added to the previous text string rather than to replace the first text string?

Anything at all similar I've seen creates a shared object instead of writing multiple strings to one dynamic text field.

I have a user value object with a few pieces of info in it that I pass around client side and would like the server to add it to its list of users (usersSO).  I'm guessing I'll have to send it up in pieces and recreate it somehow on the server?

IDE :: Attach Objects To One Another?

Apr 29, 2009

I was wondering if there's a way to attach objects to one another. Basically, for a flash animation, I have a monkey swinging back and forth on a branch. The transformation point is set at his hand on the branch, while his arm swings back and forth like a pendulum. His body is at the bottom of this pendulum, and right now I have to reset the body as his arm swings.

How do I attach the body to the bottom of his arm to its own pivot point so that they're always attached to each other, but so that the body always is in the SAME POSITION (i.e., when you rotate the arm, it does not also rotate the body).

new string = 1(txt) + 2 (smi_laugh_mc) + 3(txt)

2. Load the same stuff into flash and create a extra mc on top of the texfield and attach the smileys to it to display...fill the textfield with spaces to make spce for the smiley.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Scroll TextFIeld Objects - Change The TextField.y Value

Mar 17, 2009

I've got a flash document using AS3. It dynamically reads data from an XML file, and creates a bunch of single line textFields. Could be like this:

<XMLdata>
<Line>this is line 1</Line>
<Line>this is line 2</Line>
<Line>this is line 3</Line>
</XMLdata>

So, for each node, it would create a new TextField, and change the textField.y value so that they are "stacked" on top of each other. All this if fine, except that if you hae so many "lines" (or textfields) that the "stack" is taller than the Flash Document size. What I would like to do is have a scroll bar or something so you can scroll the stack of TextFields. Doesnt' even need to be a scroll bar. Maybe an arrow button at the bottom, and when you click on it, it scrolls down. One for up too.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Comparing Two Arrays (one With Objects)?

Apr 2, 2011

I'd like to know how to compare one array to another array with objects.

For example:

Array1 = [one, blue, car];
// there will always be only one entry in this array - no Array1[1], no Array1[2], etc.
Array2 = [product.number, product.color, product.type, product.cost, product.qty];

The actual content in Array2 would be something like this:

Array2[0] = [three, green, boat, 100, 5];
Array2[1] = [two, blue, truck, 200, 3];
Array2[2] = [one, red, car, 50, 20];
...and so on, up to about 60.

I'm trying to figure out to go through all of Array2 to determine if there's a match to Array1. Since none of the entries in Array2 are the same, there will always be one match.In this instance, I want to match array1 with product.number, product.color, and product.type. My example has them as the first 3 criteria, though that may not always be the case.

Something along the lines of this:

Code:

function findMatch () {
for(i = 0; i < Array2.length; i++) {
if(all 3 Array1 items equals items in Array2[i]) {

[code]...

Background: I've a combobox search that allows a user to select from drop-downs. After a user selects items from all 3 drop-downs, they click a submit button, and there's a check to see if the criteria in the drop-downs matches anything in the Array2 (which it should, if you can select it, then it's in the array).

After that, the matched information is used to populate a movieclip. There's actually about 20 pieces of information associated with each product. However, I only need to match 3 of them.I've searched and found comparisons for arrays. But I don't see how they'd apply to my issue as I'm using objects and there are more items in array2 than in array1. Of course, they may apply, and I'm just not understanding how. I could create a 3rd array and move only the items needed for a match from the array2 to it. Then I could do a straight comparison between array1 and array3.

Flash - HitTest With Objects From Two Arrays?

Feb 2, 2012

Basically what I'm looking to do is hitTest bullets inside an array (spawn via addChild -> pushed into an array) with another array containing ships (spawn via addChild -> pushed into an array as well).At the moment I have:

function moveEnemyLarge():void{
var target2:EnemyLarge;
for(var i2:int=0;i2<enemyShipArray.length;i2++){

[code]....

.. and a near identical function for the bullets (using variables: i, target).What is the easiest way for me to hitTest the objects within my bullet array with the objects in my ship array. Putting "target" in the PLACEHOLDER slot doesn't work, and from what I've seen some people will shove the one for() inside of the other.

ActionScript 3.0 :: How To Add Objects Into Arrays And Call By ID

Feb 3, 2010

I have a loop, it goes through and works fine. I can trace out my variables and all is hunky dory, for example "trace(title);" displays the variable title, as expected, there is also the variables "something" and "everything" and a unique ID: id. Now I want to put these variables into an array, so the values can be called via the ID. For example (I'm a PHP programmer normally) in PHP I'd do the following:

Code:
$array[$id]["title"] = $title;
And to display it I would do
Code:
echo $array[$id]["title"];

For each part of the loop I want to add the "title", "something" and "everything" into the array so I can call them by "id". I think I'm doing it wrong though, should I be using objects? If so, how?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Compare The Objects In 2 Arrays?

Nov 21, 2010

What i have is 2 arrays, where one is "correct" - set by the computer. The player then makes his array and when its done i want to compare them to see that they match up. The array is in theory able to go infinite (its a memory game), and i thought this would work.

The arrays can only contain the numbers 1,2,3 or 4. which is added like this

Code:
player.push(2);
Code:
if(player.length == siren.length)
{
if((player[n] + siren[n]) /2 == siren[n])

[Code]......

What happens with my code, is it goes to lose each time. How can i compare the object at spot 1 in each array, then 2 in each array, etc?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Push Multiple Strings Into An Array, And Some Of The Strings Are The Same?

Aug 24, 2009

I work on AS3 one week, and then take a break for a few weeks, then work on it a day, take a break, etc.. So I forget some of the basics, and need refreshers. I think I need to stop taking breaks.

Problem: I push multiple strings into an array, and some of the strings are the same.

Code:
var myArray = new Array();
myArray.push (Snivvle);
myArray.push (Kirupa);
myArray.push (Snivvle);

I want to find out which element positions "Snivvle" hogs up. We can see that it would be using element 0 and 2, and if we do an "indexOf" we would only get to see element 0, and doing a "lastIndexOf" we would only see element 2. How do I find out ALL of the element positions "Snivvle" is located in, so that it returns: element 0, element 2.
