Actionscript 3 :: Correctly Deserialize Objects While Catching Errors?

Jun 28, 2010

I have a class DataFile which is the top level class that I am serializing. DataFile contains an ArrayCollection which in-turn contains objects which extend ArrayData, each which overrides readExternal in different ways.

Over the course of the development the ArrayData object from version 1.0 is now different than the ArrayData object in version 1.1.

This causes deserialization to fail, most often with a null object error.[code]...

Actionscript 3 :: Finding A Sub-string That's In Between Two Other Sub Strings

Jan 14, 2012

I'm creating a flash application, which loads a file from a server, and stores it in a string. I'm wanting to find the substring within that string, which is inbetween two known substrings.

Note. I don't want to do this with reg-ex as i'd like it to be easily reusable.

Ideally I'd like a function which i can re-use, by passing the beginning and ending substrings.

e.g. something along these lines..

function getSubString(start:String, end:String):String

Edit: There may be more than one instance of the 'start' and 'end' substrings within the string, i'm wanting it between the first instance of each.

Media Server :: Pass Objects (not Strings) To Application.onConnect()?

Sep 30, 2009

The documentation on parameters for application.onConnect() is below.  It can take a Client "object" but is ambiguous about the optional parameters (strings vs objects).  I'm guessing just strings?

I have a user value object with a few pieces of info in it that I pass around client side and would like the server to add it to its list of users (usersSO).  I'm guessing I'll have to send it up in pieces and recreate it somehow on the server?

ParametersclientObjA Client object. This object contains information about the client that is connecting to the application.p1 ..., pNOptional parameters passed to the application.onConnect() handler from the client-side NetConnection.connect()

ActionScript 2.0 :: Arrays/Objects/Strings - Attach A MC Instead Of Text In A Textfield?

Oct 25, 2003

how can i have an array of strings but also with mc identifiers in the same array and have it know the difference between object and string? RIght now i've got this array of strings that goes to a textfield, and if i change it to

portfolioSection(["section 01", "section 02", {linkage: "linkage_id", x: 530, y: 280}, "section 04", "section 05"]);

this.attachMovie(portfolioSection[2].linkage)[/AS]

to try and attach an MC instead of text in a textfield i just get [object object] in the text field.

Actionscript 3 :: String - Serializing Objects - String Type Too Small To Hold Blob

Dec 12, 2011

I'm using:

[Code]...

But I keep getting an "Error #2030: End of file was encountered." This is (probably) because the class I'm serializing is too big for the "String" object type in AS3. Is there a limitless object for storing an array of characters (or better yet binary), or am I going to have to make my own class? (like one with an array of strings)

String :: Use Objects.function If Objectsname Is Taken From String?

Feb 6, 2012

I was wondering if this concept is doable:

Scenario:
4 areas on 1 stage which are quite similar (eg webcamconference, each area has the same functions)

Buttonobjects are numbered(eg area 1 has playbutton1,mutebutton1,namebutton1,namelabel1, etc)

every area gets a close-Button which closes/shuts down the area.(close1,close2,close3...)i want to archive the following:

if(close1.isPressed){
function invisall(1);
}[code]....

this should do the trick via dynamic Nr at the end of each default button(eg playbutton)
but ofc

"playbutton1"._visible=false;

doesnt work because playbutton1 is still a String.how can i take the String as a Buttonname /ButtonObject? do i need to write an new function? this would destroy the purpose of less code. for now i will split the area into frames that i put on the stage.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Convert String Of "get Variables" Into An Object Of Strings?

Jun 15, 2010

I'd like to easily convert a string of say "dog=Sam&cat=Garfield&mouse=Cheese" into an object of strings.

The object would contain the variable "dog" equal to "Sam", its variable "cat" will be "Garfield", and of course "mouse" the string "Cheese".

There are a number of ways to parse this, but what is the simplest way? I know when you use a URLLoader object, you can give it a dataFormat of URLLoaderDataFormat.VARIABLES and then it automatically converts the data into an object.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Push Multiple Strings Into An Array, And Some Of The Strings Are The Same?

Aug 24, 2009

I work on AS3 one week, and then take a break for a few weeks, then work on it a day, take a break, etc.. So I forget some of the basics, and need refreshers. I think I need to stop taking breaks.

Problem: I push multiple strings into an array, and some of the strings are the same.

Code:
var myArray = new Array();
myArray.push (Snivvle);
myArray.push (Kirupa);
myArray.push (Snivvle);

I want to find out which element positions "Snivvle" hogs up. We can see that it would be using element 0 and 2, and if we do an "indexOf" we would only get to see element 0, and doing a "lastIndexOf" we would only see element 2. How do I find out ALL of the element positions "Snivvle" is located in, so that it returns: element 0, element 2.

I have a DataGrid, its data provider is a ArrayCollection, and i want it to parse all itens in it (Object Type) to a String. For that I've done a "for each" loop, it manages to get the Object and its values, but if i have more that one object it only gets the last object, don't know why.

First i will show how these items are added to the ArrayCollection, that way you will understand the rest much easily. In the Main Application i have the ArrayCollection:

Actionscript :: Wildcard For Strings In E4X?

Jan 29, 2011

I'm trying to solve an Actionscript problem using E4X.I have an XML like this one:

<root>
<person firstname="john" lastname="doe" age="21" />
<person firstname="jayne" lastname="doe" age="35" />[code]....

I want to have just one function search() that takes three parameters (firstname, lastname, age) and return an XMLList. So the result could look like this:

var result:XMLList = xml..person.(@firstname == firstName && @lastname == lastName && @age == age );

But I don't want to use all three parameters all the time. I would like to have a function that uses a 'wilcard' if the parameter is NULL. So if the wildcard would be "*" the function could look like:

searchPerson( firstName:String ="*", lastName:String = "*" , age:String = "*") {...}

so that I would only pass 'John' for the firstName I'd get the first and the third node in return.
