I did create a flash shoutbox (php & mysql) and its working like a charm...now i want to add smileys. users can press on a smiley to attach it to the message. i got the flash smileys in the library. i know its going to be hard to implement that feature into the shoutbox...my question is:wich is the best way to do this?For instance, let's say i want to display this string :"Now im very happy<SMI>: D</SMI>and now im not"when shoutbox message is loaded into flash, parse it to find the <SMI>: D</SMI> markup, then analyse it to know what smiley to display. Let's say i want to replace ": D" by an mc called "smi_laugh". Then split the string into three parts :"Now im very happy"<SMI>: D</SMI>"and now im not"then replace <SMI>: D</SMI> with the smiley instance from the library and put it all back into textbox.... new string = 1(txt) + 2 (smi_laugh_mc) + 3(txt)(whooaaa, lots of work but okay :-))
I am trying to attach a styleSheet to a textField. If I have a tag defined in the css file it will not show in the textField. all the other text is there just not the link (a {font-weight: bold;} is the only thing in my css file).
I tried adding a <p> tag to the text and the css - then all my text disappeared.I deleted everything out of the css file (while still attaching it to the textField in flash). and all my text showed including the link, which worked. But it naturally had no style.

2. Load the same stuff into flash and create a extra mc on top of the texfield and attach the smileys to it to display...fill the textfield with spaces to make spce for the smiley.
The script dynamically create a list of textfield vertically and it will show a list of news title from an XML document.
The problem is: I need when a user click on a textfield (one of news title list), it will loads another movie clips that shows the complete news. Can I attach an OnPress event on a textfield?
how can i make a movieclip and a textfield to resize to the content of the text in the textfield? I mean, if I have a textfield with 3 letters font name XXX and then the content of the field change, how can i resize te textfield so the text dont autoadjust to the 3 letter space?
Does anyone know, why a textfield may become white when loading text + JPGs into it? Sometimes it happens to me, sometimes not. I haven't figured out why. If you have any clues... The AS I'm using:

I have a set-up a movie to dynamically load text from a text file. Now I realize that I want to attach live links to some of the urls in the text file. My question is can you attach the links in a text file by putting html tags in there or is it better to turn the text file into an XML file with the tags in there?Also can you attach CSS styles to that text file.. for instance in addition to adding links to the text I would also like to change the color of the text.
[url]... am attaching a movie clip containing pixel fonts. i have a stage listener that places the movieclip at stage.width/2 and stage.height/2.
if i publish the movieclip that gets attached on its own, its perfect, i can resize any way i like but if i resize the browser window when i attach it the text can get blurred. im assuming the movie clip may be placed on a decimal point rather than a whole pixel and this is causing the blurring.
is there any way that you can set the attach movie function to place a movieclip at stage center "to the nearest whole pixel"[code]...
I have a simple page with a text box and a go button on it. I am trying to build a URL from text that's put in that box.For example, someone types "peanut" in the box, then hits the go button.When they do, it loads the page "http:[url].....It seems simple, but I am not getting the variable to store/pass properly.

When applying text formatting to a comboBox, the text formatting appears perfectly on the dropdown menu items but the textField text disappears.Removing the text formatting from the textField makes the textField text reappear but of course there is no text formatting. Is there a trick to this.

The content of the txt file will be modified daily by the client.What i need is that if there is too much text in the txt file, the dynamic textfield resizes (and not only with autosize because the text can be really long).[code]it doesnt look very good but it works. I have an application that combines words introduced by the user to create new words. I would like to be able to save the resulting combinations into an external txt file.
The code I'm building creates two MovieClips on the stage, in one it instantiates several text boxes and in the other some buttons.
What I can't do is access data from the text boxes (e.g. textField.text) for use in the functions called by the eventListeners attached the buttons. I had the system all working nicely before I placed the text boxes and the buttons on separate movie clips.but this structure makes it much tidier to refresh the text I'm using.The button functions are fine with variables created prior to the building of the text boxes.
Am I failing to address the text boxes correctly (because they're on another movie clip) or is there a stage / movie clip property I need to set so they can see each other ... or is this something else altogether?Could it be that the buttons are created before the text boxes?

i'm trying to figure out how to reset or refresh clips that are dynamically attached to another clip based on records returned through xml.asically if the user chooses a different filter for the database query I need to be able to refresh a scrolling list made up of clips which will be different based on the filter.this is what I have for a function. I try to use "attachEmptyMovieClip" but to no avail

I'm trying to set an onstage TextField instance's "text" property, while maintaining embedded fonts and its onstage appearance.Problem Encountered: Text doesn't show up when setting text via ActionScript on an on-stage TextField w/ embedded text.Workaround: Create and assign a TextFormat object:defaultTextFormat = new TextFormat('Arial', 100, 0x000000, true, true);Annoyance: This defeats the purpose of styling text with the IDE.
