ActionScript 3.0 :: Variable Won't Attach Correctly To Dynamic Text String?
Apr 27, 2010
mcWinScreen.songNameTxt.text = songName;
var accuracyPercent:Number = Math.floor(((numberHit / songTotal) * 100)); var missedMath:Number = (songTotal - numberHit);
[Code]....
The numberHit var displays fine without any problems.
accuracyPercent & missedMath trace fine but don't display in the dynamic text field.

Hey guys I want to create a simple bit of flash where it brings across someone's name into a variable dynamic text field
It will take this variable from the URL string
So lets say I want to send Jessica to the site I send her the link www.mysite.com/page.php?id=Jessica
When she opens up the link it says Welcome Jessica
How can I get the dynamic text field to pick up form the URL string?

I am trying to grab a string that is loaded into my dynamic text field and use it as a variable.
The text field is populated when another button is pressed first which says input_txt.text = "myInput"
...I gave my dynamic text field the instance name input_txt
So I wrote out (on a separate button):
on (release) {
var input:String = input_txt;
trace(input);
}
I get "undefined" as my output

I have a mc (changeColorMc) and three movieclips. The three movieclips are created on the fly (so there could be more movieclips) and filled with a color from an Array. This works fine.
Now I want to add an eventlistener for each movieclip, so when someone push one of the movieclips the movieclip with the name "changeColorMc" gets that same color from the colorArray.
My question is: How can I pass the color value from the colorArray to the buttonPressed function? Is this possible?
I was also thinking that I had to create three buttonPressed functions ie. buttonPressed1, buttonPressed2 and buttonPressed3 and attach these to the created movieclips.. but how? Because I don't know up front how many movieclips there will be..

I am using flash CS3 and the flash scroll bar components to display scrolling text. This feature uses the dynamic text box. Well I have several pop up windows. A few of them need dynamic text so they can be scrollable because it is a lot of text. The issue that I am having is that in comparison to the static text...the text looks different but it is the same font?

I'm not familiar with XML text handling yet, but have to create one quiz quickly.I've decided to put feedback into different variables. e.g. fb1_1 for right anwer of question 1, fb1_2 for wrong answer of question 1.I thought to change a string to variable and put the text into a dynamic text "fb" would be something like this:[code]Also is it possible to put all text in one text field and extract a different line of text and put it to a dynamic text field? I tried to put the text into a variable, but it only shows level (level0) and instance name not the text itself. Anyway to get this way to work?

i'm attempting to load data from XML and use this data as variable values. My problem is, loaded XML data is always a String, but sometimes I want to load other variable types.There are several boring solutions to this, such using typeof to determine the the datatype of a variable and then using a function and switch statement to convert the XML data to the appropriate data type. I'd love though if there's a sneaky 1 liner to do this using built in functions. Something like:var x:int = typeof(x)("123");Let me phrase the problem another way.Lets say we have this:
var x:int = new int;
var y:string = "123";
var z: othertype = "123"

I've seen similar threads but couldn't find one with the exact same issue. I've a PDF / Word document with arabic copy when I try pasting that text in flash all the joined letters start appearing as individual letters.I've tried the dynamic text box solution in which you create a dynamic text box and assign the text to its variable that doesn't work. But strangely when you write arabic in dynamic text box (with out assigning the text to the variable) and double click to select the text box and its content the text starts appearing fine .. but when published its again all individual letter.

There's a movieclip, lets call it myMovieClip. Inside this movieclip there is a dynamic text box, lets call this one myText. Now to change the text within this text box that is embedded in a movieclip, it's simply:
[Code]....
However, what if there is a variable, called myVariable that stores the instance name of the text box. With only one text box I know it's pointless, but for the sake of example, lets leave it simple. So, suddenly the code looks like:

So i have an external text file organized like this:
/* $file: data.txt */
&title0=Sacrum
&detail0=Detail text for Sacrum
&title1=L5
[Code].....
There are 28 of these 'title' and 'detail' pairs. The 'title' text is to fill a dynamic text box and the 'detail' to fill another dynamic text box depending on which section the user is mousing over.
My issue is getting the text from the file stored into arrays. For my test loop I keep getting undefined as the stored value, and i know it has something to do with converting a string value to object..
var lv:LoadVars = new LoadVars();
lv.onLoad = handleDataLoad;
lv.load('data.txt');
function handleDataLoad (success:Boolean) {

This should be basic enough but I'm having trouble troubleshooting it
var instrument:MovieClip=banjo;
instrument_txt.text="The " + String(instrument)+ " has been selected!";
I wanted this to result in dynamic text field displaying
"The banjo has been selected!" but it results in "The [Object MovieClip] has been selected!".
Is String(var) wrong command to use? The only reason I could think why it's not working is, that the variable has been stated as 'MovieClip' instead of Number or Text. What can be done in the case of MovieClip if this is correct?
P.S I'm wondering if there're rules on asking questions on this board... I've asked two for today already and they would be considered pretty 'basic' ones to professionals / experienced users on this board >_<

I have here a bubble popping game where bubbles fall from top of the game to the bottom and the player tries to pop as many bubbles as possible in 30 seconds. It is a 3 frame game, 1st frame is the start button, 2nd frame is the game, 3rd frame is the score and play again. 1st frame: Buttons to go to the second frame 2nd Frame: timer to count 30 seconds of play time 3rd frame: buttons to play again. ScoreValue is a dynamic textbox in the last frame of the game. It records the points based on size the size scale of the bubble, and should be change based on the amount of bubbles the player has popped.
