The content of the txt file will be modified daily by the client.What i need is that if there is too much text in the txt file, the dynamic textfield resizes (and not only with autosize because the text can be really long).[code]it doesnt look very good but it works. View 2 RepliesI use a variable to show the percentage loaded number in a dynamic text box. The problem I have is that it only works when there is more than 1 frame in the preloader scene.
My guess is, that when there is only one frame, the code is not being refreshed to update the text box.
ie var percentage; percentage = math.round( getBytesLoaded() / getBytesTotal() * 100);
I'm trying to load a simple variable &myVar from a php file into my flash movie, that's a blank movie with just actionscript in it.I tried to load this &myVar into a dynamic Text field and it works fine, but I can't get this value into a flash variable to manipulate it with actionscript.. I have a movie that loads several variables from different text files depending on the users selected location.In each location txt file I have set a variable showPDF=false to hide a view PDF button named "pdfBtn" on the main timeline. In the text file the variable is set as follows:

Our friend IE is destroying my life again. I've made this thing that loads the text from a .txt file. This works fine in every browser but IE. Here's the thing:[url]....click the green thing on the right and the green lightbox that pops up should contain som text and does so in every browser but IE.and here's a snippet of the sourcecode for one of the fields:

This seems like it would be a realatively easy thing to do, but I've been working on figuring out how to do so for days with no avail. I am using a dynamic text field to show html formatted text from .txt files. I have set the html property both in the properties panel and in AS, and it mostly works. All html formatting show up just fine, except for when "&" is used. Flash CS3 documentation indicates that & is supported, so.? All text after the & does not appear: the only text loaded is that that comes before it. I am using CS3, AS2, publishing in Flash Player 9. Sorry if this problem has been addressed elsewhere, but I've had no luck with my searches.

I'm working with a flash template that loads external images and text using an xml file. Everything works well the only problem is I've promised a client that as well as a "title" and "description" I will also include a clickable URL link. I can edit the flash to a certain extent but I am having a nightmare of a time including a clickable url. Is there anyone out there who can help? "photo_description", "photo_title" and "photo_url" are the names of the dynamic text fields.

I'm using text that is set to "dynamic text". In actionscript 3 I tried:
instancename.text = "abc";
trace(instancename.text);
Trace returns "abc" when I test the movie but the appearance of the text doesn't change.
In action script 2 I tried:

instance1._text = "def";
trace(var1 + instance1._text);
Trace returns "abcdef" when I test the movie but the appearance of the text doesn't change.
I want to create a game that has a HUD, showing the player's energy, money and the number of days that has passed. In the hud, I have created an editable text, which I assume would be the same as a dynamic text (I recently transitioned to as3). The editable text also has an instance name. As I create number variables, how would I go about having the variable numbers show up inside the editable text?

I've a PDF / Word document with arabic copy when I try pasting that text in flash all the joined letters start appearing as individual letters.I've tried the dynamic text box solution in which you create a dynamic text box and assign the text to its variable that doesn't work. But strangely when you write arabic in dynamic text box (with out assigning the text to the variable) and double click to select the text box and its content the text starts appearing fine .. but when published its again all individual letter.

However, what if there is a variable, called myVariable that stores the instance name of the text box. With only one text box I know it's pointless, but for the sake of example, lets leave it simple. So, suddenly the code looks like:

Go into the 3D Studio Max link and in there you'll see my problem.....How can I get the text to format to the width of the dynamic text field? What I have are variables set up to load text from an uploaded .txt file, into the dynamic text field... it seems to run each line way over to the right...

I wanted this to result in dynamic text field displaying
"The banjo has been selected!" but it results in "The [Object MovieClip] has been selected!".
Is String(var) wrong command to use? The only reason I could think why it's not working is, that the variable has been stated as 'MovieClip' instead of Number or Text. What can be done in the case of MovieClip if this is correct?
P.S I'm wondering if there're rules on asking questions on this board... I've asked two for today already and they would be considered pretty 'basic' ones to professionals / experienced users on this board >_<
I need help dynamically loading text from a server into a dynamic text box in my movie. If i use the loadVariables it works, with the Html rendering.. if i use it with loadVars it works but now the html doesn't render. What i want is to load some text from my server into the text box and have the html to render. Also, is there a way to display the progress as the text loads, for people with slower connections?

i need to mouseover those buttons and have the xml data display in some dynamic text boxes. i'm going to get a book once i get off work. but i think the way i do that is to add another MouseEvent after the previous one right? do i have to write the whole pedals.addEventListener part? the red part is just my best guess after reading a tutorial, the tutorial was not for what i am trying to do though so i might be way off. like, i dont know if that xmlLoader stuff goes there or not, i still need to learn the correct syntax for as3.

i am stuck though because this doesnt work. i dont know what to do. the dynamic text boxes have instance names of "item" and "ssnumber" what do i still need to add? i know i'm still kindof far off.
i have already done this in as2 and it works but my company just bought a service that will be hosting it and they only support as3 so they are kindof forcing me to learn it (it's about time i guess)
