I'm using text that is set to "dynamic text". In actionscript 3 I tried:
instancename.text = "abc";
trace(instancename.text);
Trace returns "abc" when I test the movie but the appearance of the text doesn't change.
In action script 2 I tried:
var1 = "abc";
instance1._text = "def";
trace(var1 + instance1._text);
Trace returns "abcdef" when I test the movie but the appearance of the text doesn't change.
I've got a movieclip, which has got a dynamic text element.The movieclip uses a package for its codeThe package if obviously derived from the MovieClip classI've got a timer, that updates the dynamic text field every second.When debugging the code, I see that the timer works well. Its updates the value of the dynamic text field.

The PHP runs a SQL query that fetches data from MySQL. The data in the MySQL database changes frequently, and I want to update the dynamic text box with the latest info.
How do you do that? Or is it possible? I assume you use setInterval.
Currently, it only updates the field if I visit the PHP file and refresh the data. Otherwise, the dynamic text box just displays the data from the last SQL query.
I've been trying to create a flash website menu that updates the menu text via an xml file. The problem I'm experiencing is that when I update the dynamic text in the menu, it doesn't seem to go through.I know I am referencing the dynamic text correctly as when I run the swf for the first time, I briefly see the correct text for about half-a-second before it is replaced by the default dynamic text. There is something that is overwriting the new text with the default values but I cannot see what is causing it.I am changing the dynamic menu text in _root although the dynamic text exists in nested movie clips .e.'_main.menu_mc.menu_panel_1.menu_button_1_1.menu_b utton_text'.The code in _root is:

The instance name for the text box is catalogtext. On the main time line, I am using a loop to repeatedly attach the catalog movie clip. I want the dynamic text to show the value of i, and each time the movie clip is reproduced, increase by 1 each time.
Here is my current attempt:

I'm using some dynamic text fields in my movie. When I change their contents in my code, they revert to the default style. For example, in the movie, they are Helvetica, style 75 bold. But when I update them with mytextfield.text = "something else", they revert to Helvetica regular. I have all the right styles embedded.

I've been using CS4 to create flash 10 applications. It works well in other browsers, but IE 6 will not tell the users that they need to update their Flash Player. Instead, it will play the flash as if it's a video (keep looping from frame 1 to end) without allowing any interaction..

I am using a dynamic text field to show html formatted text from .txt files. I have set the html property both in the properties panel and in AS, and it mostly works. All html formatting show up just fine, except for when "&" is used. Flash CS3 documentation indicates that & is supported, so.? All text after the & does not appear: the only text loaded is that that comes before it. I am using CS3, AS2, publishing in Flash Player 9. Sorry if this problem has been addressed elsewhere, but I've had no luck with my searches.

View 1 RepliesI'm trying to make text disappear and appear letter by letter, so i'm using dynamic text. I've made this code which should do this, the only problem is that the text won't show up. I used trace to check what does the dynamic text box contains after the code has done it's job and it contains what it should. So I don't really understand where the problem is. I've embeded all the lowercase letters since I'm only using those... I don't know what else to add here... except the code offcourse:

Ignore all the "ifs" they just make the code do it's job when it should. And it seems that they work correctly. The first "for" cycle removes the text letter by letter and it only works if there is some text in the dynamic textbox while the second "for" adds the text letter by letter. I have the same code on two keyframes in the first layer and the the dynamic textbox on the second layer with only one keyframe.

I just want to know why a dynamic text doesn't show in the swf movie.Let me explain a little more: I have a mc within a main time line in wich is another mc,this mc have photos and a dynamic text who must be scrolled to view all of it,but the text doesn't appears! I'm attaching several movieclips onto the stage inside a for-loop and populating a dynamic textfield within the moviclip inside the same loop.Tracing the texfield.text shows the proper value in the Output console. However, the text value is not visible on the stage. I've drew a shape next to the dynamic textfield just to make sure the movieclip is being properly attached. I can see the shape but there is no text next to it.

basically i have dynamic text fields that i have been trying to parse to an xml file. when i test the movie it does not work, all the fields are blank. but the info DOES show up in the output tab, so i know that it is making the connection.... it just doesnt show up in the movie. weird.here is my actionscript:

It MOSTLY works, the bar travels across as it is loading, but the dynamic elements (percent loaded, # of bytes loaded vs. # bytes total) are blank areas. Haven't a clue. I can e-mail you the Flash file, I saw no provision to upload it to this Forum.

I'm having trouble getting an external.swf to show dynamic text in the parent swf. When I run the external swf by itself the text shows up fine, but when I try to load it into another swf using the MovieClipLoader the dynamic text doesn't show up.

I need to show the amount of times the counter has been moved along the board, ie how many turns the player has.
the dynamic text box is called 'moves' and the counter is a button which is pressed for each move. Therefore, it would need to be added to the onRelease function.
