I've been using CS4 to create flash 10 applications. It works well in other browsers, but IE 6 will not tell the users that they need to update their Flash Player. Instead, it will play the flash as if it's a video (keep looping from frame 1 to end) without allowing any interaction..

so apparently with the new update in IE8, it starts up with NO add-ons. Since I cannot program a code to turn on add-ons in a browser, I need to show a message when this occurs. Much like an image has alternative text in the event the image doesn't load...how can I add a message that states:
You are using Internet Explorer 8+ and need to turn on your add-ins like FLASH Player. This site is optimized for Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome.
Is their a built-in way to show a message box in adobe air.I'm using air with the Flash IDE BTW.

I have a flash movie, that shows a message to a user when it first loads up. When the users mouse enters the stage or moves the mouse the message disappears. However I would like to hide the message if the users mouse starts over the flash movie on the page load. Is this possible or does it need an interaction first?

I am creating the database features and testing them using online browsers.What I want to know is that some alerts I am getting a 'prevent this message from multiple dialogues' message on the alert but this is because of the browsers. But if the application is on flex and flash builder (I don't know which one is where the app is stored coz I have never used it) then will that message appear on some alerts in that software or is it only on browsers?[code]

instancename.text = "abc";
trace(instancename.text);
Trace returns "abc" when I test the movie but the appearance of the text doesn't change.
In action script 2 I tried:
var1 = "abc";
instance1._text = "def";
trace(var1 + instance1._text);
Trace returns "abcdef" when I test the movie but the appearance of the text doesn't change.
I'm in the process of releasing an online quiz but am coming across many problems once I publish my swf and view in my browser. Some of these problems can take hours to solve without knowing what the cause is.
I am aware of the Flash debug player, but is there a way to have a message pop up within flash player or my browser to give me an idea of what the problem is i.e "Questions.xml could not be found"? I would also want this to be displayed for the general user should there be a problem, as opposed to just a blank screen.
I have a video tutorial in mp4 format. The video has many chapters. The tasks given to me are:
TASK 1: When the video is played a dialog box should appear in the video screen showing two options 1)I want to continue with this chapter 2)Goto the next chapter When the user presses option 2 the next chapter should be played (the video has to be fast forwarded to the next topic's timeline).I should not do this using Chapters/Contents at the side of the video.
TASK 2: Next, when a chapter is completed, a dialog box should appear with options 1) REPLAY this chapter 2) Goto the next Chapter.
when i use nextSlide() and prevSlide(), which are executed when i click on two buttons. SelectedIndex works when i click on the elements in the List. What am i doing wrong? do i have to dispatch some events? Are there any tricks to doing it with buttons?This is my playlist class

View 1 RepliesI have made a swf file that requires Flash Player 10.1 to play back properly. I have successfully updated to Flash Player 10.1 in my browsers, and if I open this swf file in a browser it functions correctly.
However, I want to be able to play it back in the standalone Flash Player that came with Flash CS4 Professional, and it was not updated from 10.0 to 10.1 when I updated to 10.1 for my browsers. How can I update this software to a newer version?

According to System.capabilities.version, it's running v10.1.52.14 which, according to this page on the Adobe site, says was a pre-release version of Flash Player and should not be used! It also seems to have an annoying bug where HTML tags are frequently shown as raw HTML, rather than being rendered, which makes testing stuff in the IDE a real pain.

If the version 10.1 or higher (in the future) no message should come up. The message should prompt a user to update to the Flash Player version 10.1. My entire site is in Flash and I am using AS3. So I am guessing I should implement an AS3 code on the first frame of the script layer. Does anyone know what would be this code?

The flash player has a little window that can be opened (similar to flash->settings) telling the user to update the player if the movie loaded is for a more recent version. How can you instruct the player to do this? ITV have managed it with their catchup-tv player.

The problem I am having is I want to be able to click a button in the players inventory to equip a different armor to the player, and have that armor work in the game on the same movieclip(Player) without having to re-make all the attacks and moves etc. for each change on another movieclip. My ideas are extremely novice like putting each armor and update on a different frame inside the Player movieclip and then doing a gotoAndStop to the frame. Though that may work I don't know how to goto a frame inside a movieclip. I would like to control this using as much code as possible.I would paste my code but I don't have any code for this part of the game so far. I have tried some simple coding but so far I cannot get the pieces together.

I'm trying to make a ticker that should show my message as a "typewriter". But it behaves very strange... see attached swf. I have never worked with Flash/actionscript before, so it might be something very simple

I made text box, typed some text, converted it to a movie clip, named etc. Used a purchased and proven scroller component ... followed directions to the letter, including referencing/linking the files. However, when I tried to test the scroll bar .... the scroll bar appears, scrolls and works perfectly except the text does not appear. I have tried making a scroll bar with the UIscrollbar same thing happens. I made an other attempt and put pics along with the text in the movie clip ... this time the pics appeared and scrolled, but the text still would not appear.
