How do I call variables of my external swf file from my index.swf timeline?

I have small issue in as3. I am load "mainmenu.swf" file into "main.swf". through loader class. so now "main.swf" is parent "mainmenu.swf" file children how can call "main.swf " variable & function from "mainmenu.swf" .
View 2 RepliesI have a main Flash file that loads up other SWF files using Loader objects. I want to be able to call methods of this main object from within the loaded SWF files. For instance, I want the loaded file to be able to add an event listener to the stage of the main file. I've found this example:

Which appears to do what I want, but I can't figure out how to implement it in my setup.
My 'main file' that loads up other SWF's is called 'main.swf' and has a document class Main.
My loaded file is called start.swf, and has a document class "Start".

How can I reach the stage from a loaded SWF? Or at least, how can I call a function in my Main Class from the loaded start.swf file so I can move the functionality I need to the main.swf file?
I'm trying to drop in a quick mp3 player into a site that creates a playlist from an XML (to the folks at ClickPopMedia for the basics of the code). It works fine in the Flash testing environment, but when I put it online, or even on my local testing server, the playlist doesn't load ,just an empty space where the List component should be. I am struggling with what seems to be a simple problem. Searched and can't find the answer, it seems. I have an FLA I said I'd edit for a friend... just a few simple text edits. However, when I go to publish the movie, it makes a call to an external "State Manager" that it can't find, so the movie loops endlessly. Here is the actionscript: Code: Select allimport com.exanimo.managers.StateManager;
So I'm guessing it's looking find that at that domain. I guess that's the doing of the original programmer. However, I have noticed that there is a StateManager.js file on the webserver in the same directory where the SWF resides. Have I received an old FLA that pointed externally instead of to the local js manager? How can I change the syntax so that it finds the state manager locally?
Anyone knows if there's a way of calling an specific frame or movieclip from a loaded xml file? I have some xml text loaded to my flash site and i want to have a link in this text that when clicked loads a comment form that is in a different frame in the timeline. I've been looking and googling and i havent found any solution to this.

I am trying to call multiple functions at different times from the same .as file. I asked this question in another forum but the reply did not work. I have 2 as3 books but they both only talk about calling a single function from the external file. Can someone detail the structure in the .as file as well as how to call it from the .fla? I have a .txt file with 10 variables containing 10 sentences. The variables are named myText1, myText2, myText3, etc.
I want to be able to load one of these sentences at random into a dynamic text box.
My plan was to generate a random number i and concatonate it to the variable name (ie myText + i) then call that in a LoadVars.
However, I am not able to properly reference it.
1. How could I make it where some images/text in a flash file is taken from another outside file. For example lets say I have a image and text that would need to change constantly. The image could probably be done by using a url and changing the image set to that url, but I would rather have it search for a images file name on my computer. For the text is there a way I could use a text document, and have it set up to take the text in that document and display it.
2. How can I make it so when I click a link to an outside url it doesn't confirm that I want to visit it.
I have a Flash movie that loads variables from an external plain text file, that a client updates themselves (from a web site which generates the file). A problem occurred when they used an ampersand symbol in the text field. Is there a way around this? I haven't seen a way to escape it that works.

dynamic text box and what is loaded into it. the function for my buttons defines a new variable "newChoice" and sets its value to the "this.varTitle". It then tells the movie clip containing the text box gotoAndPlay (2). At that point the text box should update to the value of "newChoice" but it doesnt work.if i tell it to update something absolute, like a string, it works, but i think there is a problem with the layers of variables i'm using.

How to load variables from an external txt file at the beginning of flash movie...At various keyframes in the scene the movie shows different forms for user to fill in into the TextInput components. As soon as these forms are shown, the TextInput components are pre-filled with default text (the variable values that were loaded, for example "Enter your title here"). I know how to do this in earlier versions easily with the Var variable but now I'm stuck. I've been trying to do something but I keep getting "undefined" in the TextInput.

It's working perfectly in Firefox and Explorer but it only works SOME of the time in Safari (on my mac).It's hit and miss. Sometimes it styles the text sometimes it doesn't.
