ActionScript 2.0 :: Calling Arrays From External Text File
Aug 19, 2005
I am trying to make a movie that I want to have the movie call in an array from an external text file so I can change the contents without having to change the swf, how can I do this?
I'm trying to drop in a quick mp3 player into a site that creates a playlist from an XML (to the folks at ClickPopMedia for the basics of the code). It works fine in the Flash testing environment, but when I put it online, or even on my local testing server, the playlist doesn't load ,just an empty space where the List component should be. I get this error in the debugger in the Flash environment even thought it works (C:htdocs is my localhost):Quote:Error #2044: Unhandled ioError:. text=Error #2032: Stream Error.URL:file:///music.xmlat Mp3Main()[C:htdocsTrafficEntertainmentTE_sitephpsitemus icPlayerMp3Main.as:26]I'm assuming it's some sort of pathname or URLRequest issue but Every file involved is in the same folder for now. Do I need to do something different because it streams?The AS (only a portion):
I am struggling with what seems to be a simple problem. Searched and can't find the answer, it seems. I have an FLA I said I'd edit for a friend... just a few simple text edits. However, when I go to publish the movie, it makes a call to an external "State Manager" that it can't find, so the movie loops endlessly. Here is the actionscript: Code: Select allimport com.exanimo.managers.StateManager;
So I'm guessing it's looking find that at that domain. I guess that's the doing of the original programmer. However, I have noticed that there is a StateManager.js file on the webserver in the same directory where the SWF resides. Have I received an old FLA that pointed externally instead of to the local js manager? How can I change the syntax so that it finds the state manager locally?
I am working on a Vignette platform that doesn't support XML, so was told to place my swf file on an external server andcall it from that server in the html code. I have never done this before and need detailed instructions on how to get this executed
I have two files, the regular .fla file and an external .as file.Basicly at one point in the .as file I get information of what tag to send the timeline and play and have to use the function gotoAndPlay from the timeline in the .fla file.
How do I call a private function from an external ActionScript3 document? I'm working in Flash Builder 4, and I need to call a private function from an external AS3 document. I think I've imported it correctly....
I have tried everything i know to get this to work but nothing has. I am trying to place external file by calling the url into my movie. It works but I cannot position it. I have tried using mc but when i do that the file will not load. my script is below whith the url.
//load Movie Behavior if(this == Number(this)){ loadMovieNum("http://void.snocap.com/s/T3-31324-KUSPN325KQ-S/",this);
I am trying to call multiple functions at different times from the same .as file. I asked this question in another forum but the reply did not work. I have 2 as3 books but they both only talk about calling a single function from the external file. Can someone detail the structure in the .as file as well as how to call it from the .fla? I am missing something and I can not figure out what it is
How can I replace text loaded from an external file with text from another external file? Using setInterval and calling the .load from a function or something? In the example below I'm calling an external text file, could this also work with an .xml file with cycling through the children?
I have a text file with about 1000 rows of data and about 100 values (separated by spaces) in each row. What I need to do is to load the data into Flash into a separate array for each row of data, but am not sure how to get started. I will no doubt have to name each array dynamically as I don't want to hand code 1000 names for arrays!
I've managed to piece together a flash website with my limited as3 knowledge. The text is loaded from external text files and styled with an external css file.
It's working perfectly in Firefox and Explorer but it only works SOME of the time in Safari (on my mac).It's hit and miss. Sometimes it styles the text sometimes it doesn't.
how to save the content of an array in an csv file that already has a content. its like overwriting the content of the csv file. the array is like this (Array [1][1]). i've search and googled it but every answer i got is still wrong.
I downloaded a xml menu here from the Best of Kirupa forum. I am trying to get a dynamic textfield on the stage to retrieve information from the desc attribute of the xml file and display it in the dynamic textfield. I can't get anything to show up in the textfield.
I have been working on a Flash movie that loads variable data from an external XML file and dynamically displays the item names in a menu which may then be clicked to display other dynamically-loaded content that corresponds to the menu item that was clicked. I have now come to a standstill in the project as there is something I'd like to achieve but simply cannot work out how. This is my first attempt at working with XML in Flash and one of my early attempts at using variables. What I'm trying to achieve is; once the user has viewed the item's content, they can simply click "next" and "previous" buttons to display all of the content for the next or previous items in the XML document.
I know it probably sounds simple and I'm sure some of you could achieve this in 5 minutes (!) but I can't get my head around some of the coding. I assume previousSibling and nextSibling would come into play here as well as some sort of functions which access arrays of data for the previous and next items, but I'm just not sure how to correctly put these things to use. Rather than post my code and example images of the stage up here on the forums, I've created an html page here: [URL]
I'm loading a external text file to flash and according to the number present in the text file i'm trying to do a IF - ELSE command. It's not working coz the value I load from the external file is string. How can i get this as intiger.
I have a flash movie within it quite a few scenes. When I go to a certain scene it has a movie clip on it (UGFT_MC). Within this I have a dynamic text box (UGFTtxt). I have the render text as HTML selected and the variable called "data". On my main timeline at the start of this scene I have the actionscript: loadVariables("UGFT.txt","_root.UGFT_MC");
Within my text file I have the following:
data=<B>All the code I want in my text box</B> <p><img src="test.jpg"</p> etc.
This part all works, except I have lots of text and images in the text file and need a scroll bar on my dynamic text box. I have tried the UIScrollBar and it only works some of the time, and there is no pattern as to whether the scroll bar will appear. Quite often it is just a grey area. Though the top of the text called from the file is visible.
I have two arrays - one for movieclip buttons and one for images. The idea is - rollover a button and it loads it's respective image. I have a loop for the button array that pretty much loads each button and creates a rollover state for it. At the moment it just traces what button the mouse is over. The problem is trying to load the correct image based on that button. The way it is now - it will only load the same image for all the buttons.
Code: tagPosition = 0; viciousImgs = new Array("vaI1_mc", "vaI2_mc", "vaI3_mc", "vaI4_mc", "vaI5_mc"); viciousButs = new Array("va1_mc", "va2_mc", "va3_mc", "va4_mc", "va5_mc"); vicious = new Array("vicious_mc", "uTitle_mc", "uTxt_mc", "uButs_mc", viciousImgs, viciousButs);
Structure: There is 1 main file that loads external SWF files depending on what is clicked on.One of the external SWF files loads its text from external text files. This works fine when viewing the SWF applet on its own. But when viewing as a whole site, the text doesnt appear. Very annoying.I made that particular SWF on my mums computer running Flash MX 2004The flash file itself uses the Scrollbar component from MX.Could someone tell me why the text doesnt load in this scenario? It runs fine on its own, just not as an external SWF.
i have banner with 5 images fad in fade out effecti need to load images & test from external file " text file or xml file " with keeping fade effects on imagesall ways i know can't keep fading effect on images so
I turn to you for help, dear sweet Kirupa Forumites. First, let me explain the problem: I have a flash file reading an external text file for the content. Everything works perfectly for nearly everyone - you click a menu button, and the content text comes up fine. However, a couple of people have found that the text shows up as "undefined". I have checked the player versions of the people where it doesn't work, and it is the same as for those where it does work, so that ain't the problem.
I don't understand why it works perfectly for nearly everyone, but a small number of people have this "undefined" text problem. It seems to be a problem with loading the external text file, but I don't know why. I have a main flash movie, and load the text in the first frame, using the following:
var my_content = new LoadVars(); my_content.load("content.txt"); my_content.onLoad = function(success){ if (success){
[Code]...
I then have a couple of dynamic text boxes in the main movie - one called ErrorText (for displaying an error message to the user) and one called ContentText (for displaying the content). I use an external menu swf which jumps to a specific frame in the main movie, depending on which button is clicked. Actionscript on the main movie frame for the first button does the following, with the other frames similarly configured:
I have a dynamic text field that displays text from an external file. The text file has lists of text such as a1=(text here)&w1=(text here)& etcI want to be able to make a button so that will add one to the word count, such as, a button that says "Next" and when i do that, it loads the text string A2, when i click it again, it loads A3
I like to know an easy way to create a text autoscroll (vertical) that worked when the text was loaded from another text file. it can use for news/site update. see the attachment.
I cant load and external text file into my dynamic text box...when i trace the loaded var it can be found, but when it's loaded inside the text box, the value that appears is really strange.i tried to load the vars into the MC and on a level, the result is the same, it can be traced but does not appear correctly on the textbox..the code i used is here..i made a text box with about_us instance name, loaded the variables and tried to load my text inside it by setting the text property of the textbox but as u will see...
I have an application that combines words introduced by the user to create new words. I would like to be able to save the resulting combinations into an external txt file.
I am working in Flash CS4 (AS3).What I have created is basically a simple photo gallery. About 5 thumbs that when rolled over a larger version appears. Both the thumbnail images and larger images are loading dynamically.I've got that working.What it's missing is a headline and a sub headline for each pic that comes up. I need to do this from an external text file.
I was able to do this with AS2.AS3 not so much. How do I control the content of multiple dynamic text boxes on different places throughout the timeline with an external text file in AS3? I just want to name different text boxes different names and have the external text file pass the variables into my swf for each text box.
