I am working on a Vignette platform that doesn't support XML, so was told to place my swf file on an external server andcall it from that server in the html code. I have never done this before and need detailed instructions on how to get this executed

View 9 RepliesI'm trying to drop in a quick mp3 player into a site that creates a playlist from an XML (to the folks at ClickPopMedia for the basics of the code). It works fine in the Flash testing environment, but when I put it online, or even on my local testing server, the playlist doesn't load ,just an empty space where the List component should be. I am struggling with what seems to be a simple problem. Searched and can't find the answer, it seems. I have an FLA I said I'd edit for a friend... just a few simple text edits. However, when I go to publish the movie, it makes a call to an external "State Manager" that it can't find, so the movie loops endlessly. So I'm guessing it's looking find that at that domain. I guess that's the doing of the original programmer. However, I have noticed that there is a StateManager.js file on the webserver in the same directory where the SWF resides. Have I received an old FLA that pointed externally instead of to the local js manager? How can I change the syntax so that it finds the state manager locally?

I am trying to call multiple functions at different times from the same .as file. I asked this question in another forum but the reply did not work. I have 2 as3 books but they both only talk about calling a single function from the external file. Can someone detail the structure in the .as file as well as how to call it from the .fla? I am missing something and I can not figure out what it is

I do understand the differance between ssas and as3. Not all, but all most everything I see written in SSAS can be writen into a external AS3 file. This leads me to quite a few questions I'm hoping you kind people can shed some light on for me.
1) What is the advantage of writing a SSAS file over an external AS3 file?
2) Can I write an .asc file in AS3 or do I have to use AS1? Please understand I'm using tuts from fmsguru.com and the books "Learning Flash Media Server" (pdf) and "Programming Flash Communication Server". I'm not a javascript programmer so nothing I do in AS1 seems to make any sence while everything I do in AS3 does. It may not seem like it to you people that are programmers, but to those of us that aren't, AS1 and AS3 are miles apart.
3) kind of off topic, but a security question. I'm not a "hacker" and don't like the jerks that are. My question is on external AS / SSAS files and swf files. When my fla is compiled into a swf does my external AS files remain external? I assume they do, but then what is the threat of the swf being decompiled? In most projects I would do I could care less if somebody had access to my fla as long as they don't have my actionscript files.
I don't know. Maybe on questions one and two I'm getting confused becasue I'm using out dated material. Again I assume that even though fms was built off of the javascript engine it should be able to read and execute my AS3 file. Other wise what was the point of the evolution of actionscript into a fully functional programming language?

I've checked everywhere and I realized I can do it with an external PHP page that will communicate with the flash file and will send the MC as BASE64 JPG using POST.
Unfortunately, my client asked me to do that WITHOUT ANY EXTERNAL FILES (so I can't use the PHP page). Only the final SWF should be used.
I've tried to convert the project from AS2 to AS3, but it seems to be almost impossible.
Is there any way to convert the MC to JPG without the PHP page?
I would go about loading an xml file from an external domain.I am trying to create a swf file that loads a rss feed. I have found that you must create a proxy for the xml though I am unsure how to go about this.

The data loads in fine when the flash file is on my local computer with the xml file on a server. As soon as the flash file is uploaded the XML data will not load in.

I'm running an application off of a large XML file, and I want non-tech-savvy employees to be able to add/subtract from the entries that I have currrently. While I am fine editing XML on my own, I know some of them wont be, and so I am wondering if there is a way for me to be able to set up a SWF file to actually edit the XML rather than just reading it? I don't know if this is even possible. Also if need be i'm not opposed to some server side script, but if there's a way to do it without it, I would much prefer it.
Also, this applet would be running from disk not from a web server.
I am able to publish flash as long as I launch from local computer. Can't get flash to play when I publish on external server hosted by ISP. Is there another method to publish that does NOT require the Ac_RunActiveContent.js?

I did a bit of search without success to find if anything like this was answered before.Sorry for asking a silly question, I am a newbie and hence maybe missing something obvious.I used the Encoder to create the flv file and embedded the file in the timeline and the swf file plays the video just fine locally. For some reason, it's not playing after I uploaded it to the server. I did copy over all the files (swf)s) & flv). It's a very small video and I can't even see the video(just blank) while running the swf file after uploading the files on to the server. All other frames are working as expected.

I have both documents and when I play the .swf in the player it works fine but when I import the Flash into Dreamweaver the .txt file doesn't appear in the flash.I have to get this site to launch by Friday and I have about 20 of these files to sort out.

My client has asked me to provide a template for an investor relations section of their website. The HTML page or template for this page will be at the service providers site, but all the images etc. for the page will be linked to files on my clients server. Everything looks fine, but the absolute URL's in the .swf file back to my clients site aren't working.
