Jul 23, 2011I do understand the differance between ssas and as3. Not all, but all most everything I see written in SSAS can be writen into a external AS3 file. This leads me to quite a few questions I'm hoping you kind people can shed some light on for me.
1) What is the advantage of writing a SSAS file over an external AS3 file?
2) Can I write an .asc file in AS3 or do I have to use AS1? Please understand I'm using tuts from fmsguru.com and the books "Learning Flash Media Server" (pdf) and "Programming Flash Communication Server". I'm not a javascript programmer so nothing I do in AS1 seems to make any sence while everything I do in AS3 does. It may not seem like it to you people that are programmers, but to those of us that aren't, AS1 and AS3 are miles apart.
3) kind of off topic, but a security question. I'm not a "hacker" and don't like the jerks that are. My question is on external AS / SSAS files and swf files. When my fla is compiled into a swf does my external AS files remain external? I assume they do, but then what is the threat of the swf being decompiled? In most projects I would do I could care less if somebody had access to my fla as long as they don't have my actionscript files.
I don't know. Maybe on questions one and two I'm getting confused becasue I'm using out dated material. Again I assume that even though fms was built off of the javascript engine it should be able to read and execute my AS3 file. Other wise what was the point of the evolution of actionscript into a fully functional programming language?
ActionScript 2.0 :: External Text Files Wont Load Into External Swf File?
May 28, 2007Structure: There is 1 main file that loads external SWF files depending on what is clicked on.One of the external SWF files loads its text from external text files. This works fine when viewing the SWF applet on its own. But when viewing as a whole site, the text doesnt appear. Very annoying.I made that particular SWF on my mums computer running Flash MX 2004The flash file itself uses the Scrollbar component from MX.Could someone tell me why the text doesnt load in this scenario? It runs fine on its own, just not as an external SWF.

Mar 3, 2009I would like to load a xml-file from an external server (maps.google.com). My aim is to tell the user his coordinates, so I use googles Geocoding API. The problem however seems to be somewhere in accessing anything outside my own website. I tried the swf in Flash CS3 and it worked, I tried it on my website with a local xml-file with the same content as google would respond and it worked. So there must be something that suppresses the connection to another server. If I listen to the HTTPStatusEvent it's just "httpStatus: [HTTPStatusEvent type="httpStatus" bubbles=false cancelable=false eventPhase=2 status=0]", so I can't tell from the status where the mistake is (and according to the Flash Doc it always returns 0 except in IE, but it also does there).

Mar 27, 2011i'm building a website using flash. i have a external swf file that i want to import into my website. i thought this would be an easy task but for some reason when i load the movie, it flickers. my website (parent swf) was build using 1.0. The external form swf was build using 3.0. My approach:
1.create an empty movie clip called mcForm
2.go to the mc clip page i want to pull the external movie into
3. within my actions layer, I call the following function loadMovie("main.swf", mcForm);
If i write:
LoadMovieNum("main.swf",0);
then the my main.swf opens correctly but closes the parent swf file. I wan the main.swf file to be embeded within the parent file.

Aug 9, 2010'm trying to convert a movieclip to base64 and send it a server.
I've checked everywhere and I realized I can do it with an external PHP page that will communicate with the flash file and will send the MC as BASE64 JPG using POST.
Unfortunately, my client asked me to do that WITHOUT ANY EXTERNAL FILES (so I can't use the PHP page). Only the final SWF should be used.
I've tried to convert the project from AS2 to AS3, but it seems to be almost impossible.
Is there any way to convert the MC to JPG without the PHP page?

The data loads in fine when the flash file is on my local computer with the xml file on a server. As soon as the flash file is uploaded the XML data will not load in.

Jan 15, 2011I am using the load command to load content from a .txt file on my server. I have it all working just find when I preview the swf file in flash and when I view the .swf in my web browser from my server. The problem when I view the .swf file on my php page (home.php) I only get undefined variables, it seems to not be able to connect to the .txt files only when I am viewing it on my php page. Again if I view the .swf file on my server using my web browser it works fine.

Sep 8, 2011I believe I am using AS2, I have cobbled some script together from the internet and it seems to be mostly working, but there is one issue I have.Okay here goes with my explanation. I have an SWF that loads a random quote from a txt file which is located on the same server as the SWF file. The quote has an 'a href' tag around the text so that when clicked it will load a URL. - This is all working fine! Here is the problem:I would like to use the same SWF file on a separate server (server 2), that then calls the quotes from to the txt file on server 1. I have added the complete path to the txt file, but when i run the SWF on server 2, it gives me an error. Here is the script I am using in the FLA file.

Aug 10, 2009I'm running an application off of a large XML file, and I want non-tech-savvy employees to be able to add/subtract from the entries that I have currrently. While I am fine editing XML on my own, I know some of them wont be, and so I am wondering if there is a way for me to be able to set up a SWF file to actually edit the XML rather than just reading it? I don't know if this is even possible. Also if need be i'm not opposed to some server side script, but if there's a way to do it without it, I would much prefer it.
Also, this applet would be running from disk not from a web server.

How do I ensure that Flash loads the file fresh from the server and not from cache? I'm using URLLoader, andI've tried putting the question mark at the end of the URL (i.e. "questions_view.php?").
