ActionScript 2.0 :: Convert A String Into A Movie Clip
Jul 14, 2005
i'm looping through and wanting to store button names for use with an onRelease function. my code is this in the loop: var invis = "gallery_mc.thumbs_mc.invis" + i + "_btn"; however, if i try using this: invis.onRelease = function() { it doesnt work. i'm almost positive its because the invis variable renders out a string. if i hardcode it, it does work. so my question is, how can i convert the invis string into a movie clip or button so i can use it with the invis.onRelease function?
which I'm unable to figure out after half a day of trying... In the attached file you'll find some buttons. I'd like to convert these buttons into one movie clip in a way, where they hyperlinks would still work. Have found many tutorials but it just won't work.
I've got a scene where the user gets to draw and colour certain images in and so forth, they then get to hit a print button which calls the printJob class.the problem being when they do this,, an error comes up saying -
"Warning: Filter will not render. The DisplayObject's filtered dimensions (4699, 6074) are too large to be drawn."when the user draws lines it has a filter blur of (3,3,3).i assume i can get around this if i can convert the vector image into a bitmap just before printing as to save memory or something?
I have an animated item on the main stage that was imported as a swf but it needed to be edited to fit the stage. I successfully edited each frame and the whole movie is running exactly as I'd pictured it. However, I was reading somewhere that to optimize the movie, keyframes and bitmaps and graphics take up more space and that it would be better to convert an animation to a movie clip. I had to edit each frame of my swf, so right now it's in 15 different key frames When I imported them, Flash turned each frame into a bitmap and then when I edited them for size they became graphics attached to those bitmaps, each as its own keyframe.
When I try to import several images (from a folder on disk), I cant seem to make a movie clip of them. What do I have to do to import a bunch of images and then test the movie and see each image appearing after one another?
My project has a center-registered movie clip with a z-axis setting of 850 that I need to keep centered on the stage at all times, including when the stage is re-sized.Code like this for centering 2D objects doesn't seem to work:[code]My guess is that I need to convert the movie clip back into 2D space somehow, center it using the code above and then change the z-axis back to 850.
Ive been working on my flash site, and was using the tutorial on transitioning different swf's from the main timeline, and the code it uses for the transitions to work are for Button instances, while i made my buttons in the movie clip way. Is there a code to fix it so it will load an external swf from my movie clip instead of it being a button?
The entire .fla animation consists of nothing but two really long movie clips. Which are placed on frames 1 and 2 of the main timeline. Now for reasons that are too deep for me to go into explaination about my boss is telling me that I have to have everything main timeline -no movie clips. I've tried copypasting all of the frames but they all paste wayyy to large on the main timeline and they wind up in different places on the stage.
How can I move all of the frames from my two movie clips onto the main timeline without everything breaking? Better yet - is there any way to just convert a movie clip into an .fla?
I have a fla with an array of radio buttons in it. named rb0_0, rb0_1, rb0_2 ..... etc. up to rb7_4. have the following code.
[Code]...
I get the following error "TypeError: Error #1010: A term is undefined and has no properties.at Function/<anonymous>()"
I am sure this has to do with the fact Flash is reading radioButtonName as a string and not the instance name of the movie clip. How do I tell flash it is to treat it as the mc instance name?
I've been reading about this issue on the forums today, but I still don't understand what i'm doing wrong here:var theMC:String = "mcMenuItem1";var myX=[theMC];trace("myX = "+myX);myX.gotoAndStop(2);From what I've read, this should cast theMC string into a movie clip that exists on the stage, but I still get the error:TypeError: Error #1006: gotoAndStop is not a function. What am I doing wrong here? Or what is it that I've missed?
Basically instead of var thing_mc:test_mc=new test_mc I want to somehow do thing_mc:String=new String, where String is defined by an array. I've tried several methods and searched all over, but I can't find out how to do this. I don't know if I'm not searching for the right thing or what, but I just can't find an answer.
[Code]...
I know what's obviously wrong, but I don't know what's right and that's the easiest to understand example of what I'm trying to achieve.
what happened in my flash document was, I created a button, "next_btn" with the following commands:
on(release){ //to remove all the splats for (score=0;score<100;score++){[code]...
At this point, almost everything worked perfectly. Everything, but one thing. Apparently, the swapDepths command wasn't working. It was then that I thought maybe swapDepths only works on movie clips. And so I converted the button into a movie clip. I modified the instance names, etc, and almost everything worked. Everything, including swapDepths, but one thing: the gotoAndStop command. For some reason, when I tested the movie clip (containing a button) out, it removed the splat+score and finger_mc movie clips, as well as stoped the background music from playing. However, it did not go to the next scene and frame as specified by the gotoAndStop command. "s1a2" is the next scene, and "gameplays1a2" is its frame.
First of all, I would like to apologise for not knowing whether this code belongs to F5 or FMX Action Script. I'm that noobish, yup. Anyway, what happened in my flash document was, I created a button, "next_btn" with the following commands:

I thought this would be a simple one, but i am stumped. So I resulted to using this less than optimal solution, just to get it working...
if (lobby.gamemap.selectedItem.label == "Map1") map.AddMap(new Map1) else if (lobby.gamemap.selectedItem.label == "Map2") map.AddMap(new Map2) //Map1 and Map2 are movie clips in my fla library, with linkage Map1 and Map2
Building a dynamic map that displays State Senate districts for a US State. Each district is a movie clip that I want to manipulate from a ColorTransform perspective on the flash map. The data that drives the map is being pulled from a php/mysql script. I have built out the actionscript up to the point of being able to trace the name and desired highlight color of the Senate district passed from the php (the passed name corresponds to the movie clip instance name of the district on the flash map). The traces work fine as far as the values of the data passed, one field is the district and the other is the color for the transform. The .as file compiles on the test, but will not treat the variable name used for the passed district as anything other than a String. I get an Error #1069: Property transform not found on String... Have gone through adobe reference pages and have tried every method of type conversion I could find to no avail. I get coerce errors on most attempts to force the String to be an Object.
This has been bugging me for a couple days now and I can't seem to figure it out. I'm passing a string variable as a parameter in a function and want to convert that variable to a movieclip. I thought I had the proper syntax but the trace keeps returning null. I've dumbbed down the function for simplicity's sake.
Im creating a program that is designed to allow the used to select 3 pictures (movie clips) and print them off on a single peace of paper.
The program works by allowing the user to select 3 graphics (the graphics are actually instructions for various exercises) and then moving the desired movieclips onto the stage. This all happens on a layer named "Content"
So far the program will allow the user to select the movieclips and will move them into place on the Content layer as well as move smaller versions of the pictures into a preview box the only thing it does not do is print. (the most important bit)
So I am trying to take an XML document, load it in, then organize the elements into an array of Objects with the elements nodes as the properties of each object. All of that I am able to do so far. What is the real problem here for me is when I try to take one of the properties and try to assign it to a dynamic Textbox's .text property.I can trace the object property, but it will not go into a textbox.[code]Also, I noticed that when the code hits the first output error, it never executes the rest of the code in the changeQuestion function; or else I would have gotten more than one output error.
I have an array of string values that represent accessors to another array. I need to be able to use those to access the secondary array, so I need to find a simple way to convert the string to the actual array accessor.[code]...
However, it seems like there should be some way to cast the string into AS, that Flash can use to access the proper array, without having to do the complex string.slice statement.
Something like: var str:String = ActionScript(arr3[i]); would be much easier to type, as many times as I'm going to need it, than the .slice statements.
