ActionScript 2.0 :: Creating Save File Using SharedObject?

Jul 31, 2010

I have attempted to create a save file using sharedObject but it doesn't work. I don't get any errors it just doesn't seem to save when I press the save button. In the main frame I have:

Code:
user_so = SharedObject.getLocal("user");
if(user_so.data.tclock != undefined) {
clock_txt.text = user_so.data.tclock;
gregism_txt.text = user_so.data.gregism;
} else {
gregism = 0
clock = -1
}

In the save button movie clip I have:
Code:
on(release) {
user_so.data.tclock = _root.clock_txt.text;
user_so.data.gregism = _root.gregism_txt.text;
user_so.flush()
}

ActionScript 3.0 :: Save Quiz Score With SharedObject?

Dec 20, 2009

I'm working on a quiz using AS3 on timeline. I can't figure out how to save the score at the end of the quiz.  The result of quiz is displayed by its dynamic text box (out_score.text), but it isn't saved along with the rest of information. When I go back to section I, all information is displayed, but quiz score goes back to zero (0). I have section I, which collects user information. Section II, 25 question quiz, and section III, which displays information and score.

SECTION ONE (labeled "inf"):

Flash - Creating Persistent MP3 Player Using SharedObject

Oct 8, 2010

I'm trying to create a persistent MP3 player using SharedObject. Initially I tried using frames and while it worked, frames suck so I continued looking into it. I came to find out about Flash's SharedObject. It seems easy enough but I can't nail down the logic correctly. I've attached a sample .fla for anyone interested to look at. I need the song progress to be stored and retrieved when necessary to keep the same song playing whenever links are clicked within the HTML page.
Here's a link to the .FLA - [URL]

Sharedobject - Creating A Pacman-style Game Using Flash ?

Sep 22, 2010

Creating a pacman-style game using Flash (AS3). There are 3 players competing to eat the most dots. Right now when one player eats a dot, on that player's screen the dot goes away (but only for a second) and appears again in the screen. The other player playing, doesn't see that the dot went away and reappeared.Using hitTestObject, when a player touches a dot, the dot should no longer be seen on the stage. I'm using shared object to create this multi-player game environment. I'm new in using SharedObject and also AS3.

ActionScript 2.0 :: An Array From An XML And A SharedObject File

Dec 14, 2011

After spending a whole week on this,which most likely will turn out to be very simple, I have an xml file (with over 1300 cNodes) that is set up like this:

Code:
<?xml version="1.0" ?>
<rNode>
<cNode theWord="A" theSynonym="A" theMeaning="A" theExample="A" />

[Code].....

What I am trying to do is to create an array (arr =[]) that hold only the cNodes chosen in the "saveText" .. in other words the cNodes assigned the value var = 1 in the SO file.

Is this easier done as a temporary array or as second SO file.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Check If SharedObject File Has Been Altered?

Jul 13, 2009

I've set up a shared object using user_so.data.flashVar = value.This works fine, but as it is being used to store details for saved games, users could easily edit their saved games to cheat their way through the game. Is there any way to check if a shared object has been altered outside of Flash, or are there any other methods of saving files in AS2 that I'm unaware of?

Actionscript 3 :: Make An Object Network Serialize To A File, Not A SharedObject?

Oct 10, 2011

Currently, I do serialize my model object to the SharedObject instance:

try {
var mySo:SharedObject = SharedObject.getLocal("sig");
mySo.clear();[code]....

Likewise, I load the saved model using the SharedObject instance. Works great.Ultimately, I'd like to serialize it to a file - which fails. Here is how:

var fp: File = File.applicationStorageDirectory;
fp = fp.resolvePath( PREFS_FILENAME );
var _prefsStream:FileStream;[code]....

The complementing read operation suddenly breaks and reports missing bytes.In fact, I can't image how FileStream / _model.writeExternal() is able to serialize, since it needs to somehow know, that a new serialization operation is about to start. If it doesn't know, it won't be able to determine, which object instances are left to serialize.Thus, I image that my concept is completely wrong or I missed how to initialize the serialization operation.I'd be happy to read the raw ByteArray from the shared object and write it to a file. Unfortunately, I didn't find a method to retrieve from a SharedObject a ByteArray of a certain property, in my case mySo.data.model.My question is loosely related to this one: Why does delete( DictionaryInstance[ key ] ); fail?

Actionscript 2.0 :: Creating Links That Save Files To Desktop?

Feb 2, 2010

I've been developing a Flash cd-rom for a client, and a particular page in the movie has an "press room" that will contain links to images and pdf's located on the cd-rom itself. I'm familiar with creating buttons, and set up a link like this on the button.

Code: Select allon(release){
getURL("images/feat_prct.png");
}

Obviously, it's a pretty simple link that brings the image up in the browser. That's great and all, but I'd really like it to bring up the option to save the image somewhere. I know that a reasonably smart person could just click on it in the browser and either pull it to the desktop or "save as", but I'd like to eliminate that step for them. I'd also like to be able to create buttons that link to pdf files in the same way.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Wait For The User To Save A File (xml / Datagrid / File Saving)

Dec 11, 2009

step1- I got an xml that is locally loaded(works fine)
step2- the content goes into a datagrid that is displayed (works fine)
step3- In AS3 I dynamically add some lines to this xml file(works fine)
step4- I save it locally (works fine)
step5-and want the datagrid to be updated..(works not-so-well)

So, in step 4, the data is saved into the xml file, but in order to finish the save, the user has to click on the "Save as" windows in order to have the file updated of course.. and that's where's my problem, how can i tell flash to wait till the user actually saves the file, before reload the xml file in the datagrid ? here's the code :

ActionScript 3.0 :: Lock Down File Extension When Using Flash To Save A File?

May 21, 2011

We used Flex to build the web app below. It lets the user build an interactive activity and click "Publish as Flash" to save a SWF file on their local computer.[url]...

Problem:When saving the file, the "Save As Filetype" drop down is empty and end users can accidentally delete the swf file extension in the filename.How can we lock down the extension so it will always have SWF in the extension?

Technique 1? Set "Save As Filetype" to SWF by default.

Technique 2? Click "Publish as Flash". User specifies the filename. File is saved on the server. User presented with prompt to download file. File is downloaded from the server using the traditional browser windows explorer dialog box (the same dialog box if I downloaded a program from cnet's downloads.com)

ActionScript 3.0 :: XML File Reverts To Original File After Save

Apr 5, 2011

I'm working with a little bit of XML and have questions, first here are my steps:

1) Load XML
2) Append to XML
3) Save XML using PHP

Well, why when I load the same XML file does it read the file without the appendend nodes I just added?I can open the XML file in Dreamweaver and see the appended nodes, but once I load the XML back into the .SWF, it clears the appended nodes and only reads the original nodes again..[code]My .swf is local at this point and PHP and XML files are on a server running PHP5.Apparently the PHP script is correct because it DOES save the file correctly. I can save as many <persons /> as I want. But when I close the Flash .swf the URLLoader reads the original XML data again. Not sure how that's possible?When I change the location of the XML to load into the URLLoader it changes so I know it's reading the same file I saved to..
