ActionScript 2.0 :: Creating Stack Of Buttons At Runtime

Apr 25, 2005

Any way to take the contents of an array, which is full of texttype, and use them to create a stack of buttons. Now the actual text I have in the array will change every time the program is run. For example, let's say my array is ["apples","oranges","pears"]. I want to create three buttons (in this example) so that it appears
apples
oranges
pears
And when you click on "apples", it takes you to the corresponding "apples" webpage ("_blank").

Flash :: Debug A Runtime Stack Underflow Error?

Jun 7, 2011

I'm really struggling to resolve a stack underflow that I'm getting. The traceback I get at runtime is:

VerifyError: Error #1024: Stack underflow occurred.

at flash.events::EventDispatcher/dispatchEventFunction()
at flash.events::EventDispatcher/dispatchEvent()
at flash.net::URLLoader/onComplete()

This is particularly difficult to debug because when I run in debug mode it does not happen at all. It only happens when compiled as a release.

applicationComplete seems to be an even better event than creationComplete to put application initialization code. See this blog entry for some explanation, and and this video (around 4:25) by an Adobe Tech Evangelist for an example of simple "start of application" data initialization.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Stack Traces With Runtime Debugger Tools (a La De MonsterDebugger)?

Sep 1, 2009

Does anyone have a lot of experience with the different runtime debugger tools out there such as De MonsterDebugger? I'm looking for one that will map out the call stacks of different function calls within a tree structure. I couldn't tell if De MonsterDebugger does it, but it doesn't seem to. And I wasn't sure what other options are out there.

For an example of what I'd like, consider the following and the expected output (or something to that effect):Code:

Worse comes to worst, I'll just implement it myself, but I was hoping someone already did

Flex :: Creating Card Stack (Horizontal List)

Jul 21, 2010

I'm trying to develop a card game with Flex, and I was wondering if there's a way to create an horizontal list (the cards that I have in my hand) having the elements overlapped, like you can see in this example made with openflux: [URL]. The thing that's missing here is the possibility to swap the cards with drag and drop. What I could do to get a similar effect with an horizontal list based component?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Image Gallery - Unable To Get The Buttons To Stack In Rows/columns?

Jan 19, 2007

I've been trying to tweak the "image gallery + Bokel loader class" found on the laco web site. The image preloader is pretty nifty:

http:[url]....

I've added Previous/Next buttons which clients always seem to demand, and I've given the thumbnail buttons a static position (something I need to do). I'm having problems getting the buttons to stack in rows/columns though. I can't work with one long column or row of buttons - they need to be stacked in rows, say 6 buttons per row and 6 columns across so that there is a nice box arrangement to the buttons. But the way the functions are written its hard to make adjustments to the placement of clips.

Been struggling with the basics of creating instances at runtime. I needed to implement an XML video player and even though the client has supplied a component that they liked and it works fine, i cant turn it off as im not sure how the thing works. Basically the timeline hits a keyframe and stops. It runs the code to make the player popup but once the user has exited, the player stays on.If the function creates an instance for flv playback... how do i tell it to stop?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Creating Dynamic Textboxes At Runtime?

May 14, 2010

I'm loading a set of images and text from an XML file.I have the images loading into empty MovieClips created dynamically using 'createEmptyMovieClip', and I can get the text into dynamic textboxes that already exist on the timeline, but this isn't exactly what I want.

What I wan't to do, is to pull the text from the XML directly into dynamic textboxes at runtime, in the same way as the images.I've read today about 'createEmptyTextField', but I can't get it to work.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Creating Functions At Runtime Without So Many Ifs/elses?

Nov 3, 2005

I am writing some code that needs to be very efficient, yet flexible. This is in a class and when the class gets initialized a function is setup. I want this function to run straight through without doing any time-consuming things such as calling other functions or routines, or doing any if/else logic/branching. Now I know that you can setup a function at anytime during runtime such as:

Code:
var myFunction:Function = function() {trace('HELLO!')}

But what I am trying to do is to try and append code to a function based on logic, yet I don't want the function to be deciding this logic when it is running as it will only need deciding when the function is created.... imagine if it were a string it would be something like myFunction+="do somethingelse;" which would be the same as having initially setup myFunction as such:

Code:
var myFunction = function() {do something; do somethingelse;}

With this I seem to be having no luck Here's an example where I setup the most compact/efficient function at runtime depending on what I want the function to do. Now this was fairly simple because when we create the function there are only a few possible variations, but I need someway of doing a function+= as my real code has quite a few variations and it would be a nightmare have a zillion if/else branches. REMEMBER I do not want any logic/decisions in the function itself as it to be the most efficient the function must be as compact as possible and run straight-through.

Code:
var dynamicFunction:Function;
//
// Setup the dynamic function & call it
// In this example outputs "Hello Jim" & "Goodbye Jim"
dynamicFunction = CrapSetupRoutine(true, true, "Jim");

[code]....

P.S. I knew the += would never work as this is a function and not a string. But at least if you think of the function as a string you'll get what I'm trying to do....

ActionScript 3.0 :: Creating Curved Arabic Text At Runtime

Sep 21, 2011

I need to create curved Arabic text which can be change at runtime by input from Text Field. Currently I am using Text2Curve AS3 component. It works fine with Latin symbols, but I have several problems with it when it come to Arabic text: First problem is that Arabic letters comes in four different forms: end, middle, beginning and isolated. But Text2Curve AS3 component shows them the same.Second problem is that Arabic text shouldn't have any gaps between letters. But in component you can only set one letter spacing for all symbols. So some of the symbols overlap, while other have gaps between them.Third problem is that Arabic text is written from right to left, but Text2Curve AS3 component only supports left to right. (I solved it partially by reversing input string)If someone have had similar problem, or know better component/library (paid or free), or can event create one please let me know. Also I am working with Adobe Flash Professional CS 5.5 and I don't speak Arabic. So it is quite hard for me to check if Arabic text is good or not.

ActionScript 2.0 :: How To Load Buttons At Runtime

Nov 30, 2006

I'd like to learn the correct way to design flash sites in the direction of the Kirupa tutorial found here:Although that's a hellava lot more complicated than what I'm doing now, I see the point of minimizing the layers in my movies as much as possible.So, I've begun using attachMovie to load my movies to the stage at runtime. This has dramatically reduced the layers I had in my main movie. Now, the site has just two layers: one for actions and the other for invisible buttons. The invisible buttons sit exactly where the movie clip buttons will appear at runtime.I'd like to know how I can load the buttons at runtime, basically reducing my main movie down to an actions layer. Is this possible or even recommended as good practice?

I'm unaware of how to make it so the "Content BOX" is above the rest of the hover links. All the hover links are all into one layer, in a movie clip. ActionScript 2.0 :: Creating The Dynamic Buttons?

Aug 24, 2007

im trying to dynamically create buttons...here's an example scenario -> off stage is a movie clip called "originalButton_mc"I want to use a loop to duplicate this movie clip 25 times, and each one should be able to perform a unique onRelease function ex.

Code:
for (i = 0; i<25; i++) {
var newButton_mc = originalButton_mc.duplicateMovieClip("button"+i, i+1);
newButton_mc._y = i*22;
newButton_mc._x = 10;

[code]....

the problem with the above code is that when I click my new buttons it always traces 25...because, clearly - my code is wrong, and the onRelease is getting rewritten for each button - hence its left with the last i ... 25.

ActionScript 3.0 :: XML And Dynamically Creating Buttons

Code:

trace(j);
var newButton:imgButton = new imgButton();

[Code]....

Now I'm just wondering what the best way of assigning control to the buttons is (i.e. making them do something,). I'm wanting each created button to load a different image (defined in the xml) if that's of any use.

Do I need to add event listeners dynamically or something?
