I'm trying to develop a card game with Flex, and I was wondering if there's a way to create an horizontal list (the cards that I have in my hand) having the elements overlapped, like you can see in this example made with openflux: [URL]. The thing that's missing here is the possibility to swap the cards with drag and drop. What I could do to get a similar effect with an horizontal list based component?

View 4 RepliesI am using a horizontal tilelist in flex to display an image gallery with only one item in horiz. tilelist being shown at a time. I have next and previous buttons on both sides. The problem is I want to display a particular item/image in that list when user clicks on a thumb image from another thumbimages tilelist at bottom. I used someTilelist.selectedIndex property but it just selects that particular index in list, it does not show that particular item/image. I want the list to show that particular image, not just select it. Please take note that the horiz. tilelist shows only one image at time.
View 1 RepliesI am trying to have a tool-tip in Flex 3, where in when my mouse is over the some value, it should show a tool-tip just like you get it for any classes in Eclipse IDE. Suppose, your mouse is over word "String" in java, you get a tool-tip stating the description of java.lang.String and its syntax. It also allows to copy the contents. Is it possible to create such a tool-tip in Flex 3 ? I want this kind of tool-tip to appear, and when pressed F2, it should have horizontal and vertical scroll bars and we should be able to copy the contents from tool-tip.

Now the actual text I have in the array will change every time the program is run. For example, let's say my array is ["apples","oranges","pears"]. I want to create three buttons (in this example) so that it appears

I'm trying to add a second card deck to this matching game, but can't wrap my head around how to set up a second random feature to call one of three arrays.
My problem is that I want to call 6 cards each time I start a new game, but for the sake of not boring people with the imagery, I want to have it so that the card types vary each time they start a new game, meaning flash calls one of three decks. I am creating a card game everything is fine but I am not able to create a stack of cards as follows: If I have 4 cards that are represented in an array such as 4,5,6,7 of Spades then I want the card with the least priority to be placed on top and the highest priority card placed behind the first one.

I've made a custom component that looks basically
like "mx:HBox->mx:Button mx:Box mx:Button" where the buttons and box are children of the hbox.
How do I offer the user access to the box (say its dataProvider and itemRenderer) through my custom component?
So they just need to write 'local:MyCustomComponent dataProvider="rar" itemRenderer="rar"/>' and my box inside that component can use it?
I need a List that resizes to exactly fit its content, unless that height exceeds its (dynamically sized) parent container. My requirements are as follows:
The component extends List, or at least acts similarly. variableRowHeight and wordWrap both equal to true. The height of the list cannot be less than minHeight (roughly 32px for scrollbar arrows). The height of the list cannot be greater than the height of the parent container .
Note that the parent container can be resized dynamically.
The height of the list should be updated as the size of both the contents and parent container changes.
Live updating would be preferable but not necessary.
There should be no scrollbars if the content height is less than the parent container height (sounds obvious, but I've had trouble with this too).
The trouble is that with variableRowHeight and wordWrap, it's very hard to know the size of the content at any given time. If the parent container's width is reduced, a line wrap may occur in the list which will change the height of the content. I know I can measure the height of the list content using measureHeightOfItems() + viewMetrics.top + viewMetrics.bottom, but when should I calculate that? What events should I listen for? And the thing I've had the most trouble with - when should I calculate it to set the size initially (i.e. just as the content has finished populating)?

I've got a List component set up but some of the text exceeds the space available and so I'm trying to add a horizontal scrollbar as well as the vertical one.In the component inspector I've set the horizontal to "on" and given it a width of 200 (my component has a width of 150).However, it cannot be scrolled and I get this error message: TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at AWorkingFile1_fla:: Main Timeline/baseData()Is it actually possible to get the scroll bar to work?

Is this possible? View 1 RepliesI am working on a class for a horizontal list of thumbnails that will function as a menu. The current selected thumbnail will display in the middle with the previous and next thumbnails displayed on either side. In the screenshot shown, the standby images before and after previous and next are also displayed, although they won't be in the final result.
Here's what it looks like at the moment: Everything works apart from the animation itself. When the user clicks a left or right arrow, the thumbnails will slide left or right and change their size an opacity as well.
I have attempted to use the Tween class, but there are four clips to be animated with five tweens (the unused standby thumbnail is simply removed), amounting to a total of 20 Tween instances running simultaniously. That seems to be too heavy on the processor, so I'm exploring a different apprioach, but it dosn't seem to be going all that well.

However the scrolling does not stop and eventually goes back on itself and does a loop. Without creating any mc's is there anyway to stop this from happening and create a boundary?
I'm binding two AutoCompleteModified objects to one another; meaning you type in one and it selects the correct object in the other. It works fine when I define it in MXML: However, a user can add a new row to a Grid and then I set up the binding and objects via actionscript and it gives an 'undefined' error:

If I only keep it 1-way binding then it works fine. But both throw this error. Is there something about not only doing it 2-way in actionscript, but adding components that aren't on the stage yet?
I am trying to use a combobox in flex with an array to change to a canvas in a view stack. Can I do this with some custom action script? The UI I am designing could really benefit form this.

I have used RoR in the past, but as i understand, RoR is single-threaded, and is therefore not the ideal choice for handling potentially thousands of simultaneous requests. I have done some reading about Scala and Lift and that is an intriguing option, but i was wondering if there are other languages/frameworks out there that would work well for my project?

I'm using flex 4.1 to write an application. i read in the documents that has the rowCount property to set how many items to display. the does not have that property. how can I limit the list to display 3 items ?
