ActionScript 2.0 :: Enabled And Disabled This Movieclip / Buttons In The Main Timeline

I have this movieclip with buttons residing in the main timeline. This movieclip is set with an _alpha = 0. How do I disabled this movieclip/buttons in the main timeline as well? The movieclip will be visible only if another button(not within this movieclip) is pressed. I tried using the following but it doesn't work. movieclipInstanceName.enabled = false; How do I go about doing it?

I've got what I think isn't a real tough one however I can't seem to get this working.
 
I have a MovieClip. This movie clip has 21 buttons. These 21 buttons should be forwarding the user to frames 60-81 on the maintime line.
 
The actionscript I've added is not providing any errors however it's working either as these buttons don't do anything unfortuanlty.
 
Below is a sample of the code i've placed within the MovieClip itself, as the buttons and the button names are contained in the movieClip.
 
AS3 Code Being Used

button1_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, button1Click);function button1Click(e:MouseEvent):void{    gotoAndStop(55)}
 
This code is listed for each button instance and to forward the user to a frame on the main timeline (NOT the timeline in the MovieClip itself).
 
Again, this code is contained in the MovieClip itself and not on the main timeline, as the buttons exist in the movieClip I.E. button1_btn to button21_btn
 
Lastly, to provide a visual idea of what i'm expereincing, please refer to screenshot embeeded in this message or the attachment (same thing).

Flex :: Getting The Application's Enabled Disabled Event While Opening A Pop Up?

In my flex application I have several pop ups, when a pop up is opened the application is disabled and enabled back when the pop up is closed.Is there way to get application's enabled / disabled event and perform some activity like hiding a display object.I know, I can get open and close event of the pop up but I don't want to write it for all the pop ups and pay for maintainability.

PS: I am using PopUpManager to create pop ups.

This is something that is probably really basic but for the love of gawd I can't remember how to do it.

Example: 3 menu buttons, you press the first button and it executes a function and disables itself leaving the second and third button enabled. You then press the third button and the first button gets enabled while the third button is disabled. Same thing goes for the second button.

I have a scrollPane on my Stage and I have it linked to a movieClip containing a series of images that have been converted to buttons. Everything works fine, except I can't seem to figure out how to get the buttons to link to the main timeline. All I want is them to gotoAndPlay ("frameLableOnTheMainTimeline"). I have a movie clip - it is a slideshow style mc, but instead of pictures, each frame is layers that include bulleted text, images, etc. - and it advances frames automatically with this code:

I need to set up a pause button that will stop the mc from advancing (i.e. ignore the wait function code above) and a PLAY button that will resume the auto-advancing of my movieclip. Basically I am trying to get buttons that I have in a drop down menu load an external .swf into an empty movie clip placed on the main timeline. However for some reason it is not working. The buttons are contained in a movie called "menuItems" which is then placed in a movieclip called "mainMenu" which is then placed on the main timeline.

im creating a character sheet and all i have to do is get the character to do a few things, im using Stan from american dad, so he draws his gun, salutes, and does this guns speech, only problem is. i can get him to salute by using the code

this links fine, the salute is in a movieclip on frame 2 of the timeline, and the button is set to link to this.problem starts after the movieclip finishes playing, how to return to frame 1 on the main timeline, ive tried gotoAndStop("1") amongst other things (gotoAndStop ("Scene 1", 1)ive also tried frameLables too but that didnt work, though im not sure if i was doing that right to start with.Then im having a problem with my other buttons, even when set to on(release){gotoAndPlay("3");} they still go to frame 2 (with salute on)

I just don't know how to target it. I'm trying to load an external swf, when releasing a button. The problem is the button is not on the main timeline, but instead nested in a movie clip. I just don't know how to target that button. I tried loading the swf with a button on my main timeline and it worked, so I know the problem is not with the movie clip loader class or the actual swf itself. I have a main timeline with a button. I need the action for this button to gotoAndStop to a frame within a movieclip, within another movieclip. I have tried on the main timeline setting the actions of the button to:

clip1.clip2.gotoAndStop("frame1");
}

and tried:

_root.clip1.clip2.gotoAndStop("frame1");
}

lastly:

on (release){
_parent.clip1.clip2.gotoAndStop("frame1");
}

If I double-click on the movie clip (clip1) and then double-click on the movie clip (clip2), I have several frames labeled "frame1", "frame2", etc.The button doesn't work.

Working on an RPG type flash, and I have to be able to control a text-box from quite a few locations. The one that is causing me trouble is the inventory. I need to be able to access the textbox with an instance of "statusWindow" from within the inventory clip (instance name "inventory"), so when I mouse over an item within the movieclip it will change the status window on the stage.In this instance I want to mouse over inventory.invHealth from the main timeline to get the display.itemName and itemProps are strings containing information about the item.I tried the following but it gave me a "possibly undefined" error.

-Alright so I have made a next, and a prev button. That navigate the timeline inside an mc "tabs_mc." This mc ison the the main stage.-When the next and prev buttons are pressed they goto 1 of 4 frame labels on this timeline inside tabs_mc.-When one of these lables is reached an mc "thumbs" appears on the screen / stage.-These mc's "thumbs1, thumbs2, thumbs3, and thumbs4" contain buttons that SHOULD be clickable.-But are not after the prev, and next buttons are press. They are before the next, and prev button are press, but not after.

way this is or even better how to keep these buttons enabled after the next, prev buttons are clicked?I thought of making some sort of boolean to tell the each button that is needs to stay "true" after prev, and next are pressed.But I'm a beginner so I don't know where to start.Heres the next, and prev button code:

I created a menu of invisible movieclips (from a library item with the class name Invis) with buttonmode set to true so that I can have them send the playhead to different labels on the main timeline. I could use some help with determining which button is clicked and then placing code that executes depending on which button is clicked.

Here is what I have so far on frame 1 of my timeline:

This works - I get [object Invis]0,or [object Invis]1...etc in my output //window depending on which one I clicked. Just not sure what to do next

I am creating a very basic menu. My project consists of a main file that then calls other swf's to fill in the rest of the content. My main timeline is this. There is an preloader which hasn't been built yet, a intro section that is two movie clips (one loads the layout, one fades in my buttons). Then when all this loads, I load the first swf. My difficulty is that I am trying to get my buttons, which are held in mc_buttons, to change the variable myLoader on the main timeline. So when you click on a button, it swaps in a different swf for the current loaded one. I have tried calling the following code attached below.

My error is:
"1119: Access of possibly undefined property myLoader through a reference with static type flash.display:DisplayObjectContainer."
Now, if I define the myLoader variable in the mc_buttons and do an addchild() there, I get the correct content, it just is on top of the old content which isn't what I want...

I've created a movie clip with an animation on it's own timeline 30 frames long. When I press 'Enter' while inside the movieclip the animation plays ok.On the main timeline, I have one layer 30 frames long with the movieclip symbol placed on frame one. If I press 'Enter' the main timeline play head moves to frame 30 but the movieclip animation does not play on the stage. If I press 'Ctrl + Enter' or publish to swf then the animation plays ok but I can't setup the stage how I want it without the animation playing on the stage. Do I need to just change a viewing setting (tick box in preferences) or is this related to AS3 or new CS4 inner workings?

I've got a problem using variables in my Flash project. I've got a variable called "count" decelerate in a layer of my main timeline.
Like this: _global.count=0;
In my movieclip I want to set that variable from 0 to 1.
For do that I wrote in a code layer of my mc: _global.count=1;
Now... When I perform a new action the variables count return to 0.
It's seem that Flash reset all variables.
