Ive been looking into whether or not, it is possible to load the entirety of site content dynamically from a text file. I know, how to specifically choose and reference from one txt file to a dynamic text block. But, is there a way to have one huge file? That is to say, can I target certain things within a txt file?
View 2 RepliesSo as to make things less confusing (I had a lot of different layers), I made each scene in my animation in its own file. Now I want to put them in the same file, so I thought I could make everything in one file into a movie clip and put it into another file that way.
However, it doesn't seem to work! I can highlight everything, convert it, and paste it into the other file... but when I paste it, it only pastes the first frame of my highlighted selection! How can I convert the whole thing into a movie clip instead of just one frame?
I created a swf that I have on my website. The swf loads xml data. it works fine when I test it locally. But when I upload it to the server, I get a IOErrorEvent().[code]How can I figure out what is causing this error? Driving me crazy...been up from 9am - 5am trying to create this header for the site and now I'm stuck on an XML load error...
Correcting the comment tags fixed my xml loading problem.I then was faced with the images within the xml file not displaying on the screen. When I went to www.mysite/media/myFlash.swf, the images loaded perfectly; however, when i went to www.mysite.com where the 'myflash.swf' was in a the images threw another error.I corrected this issue by changing the file path in the xml...instead of acquainted.jpg I changed it to media/ specials/ acquainted.jpg.

It's basically a circle that turns on/off, flashes, whatever,using motion tweens, but most importantly, it has a defined position on the canvasI'd like to place it in another spot, but when I try to select the whole layer and move it, it moves only the keyframe located below the playhead(I think that's what it's called), which won't do me any good.

I plan on using this type of preloader in the gallery section and before the root movie is launched. I'm looking for a preloader that preloads the _root movie, and all of the content it loads on it's level, which will be external SWF files. I plan on using the loader in two ways for the site:
- For the preloader that I will insert before the entire movie, I plan on loading the tattoos/merchandise/contact/news external SWFs which will makeup the content of the _root movie.
- For the preloader used in the tattoos/gallery I plan on using it to display a loading bar on top of the button thumbnail clicked, then displaying the pop-up enlarged image (which is an external SWF file) of the thumbnail on top of the entire movie once the loading is finished.
I've tried some of the preloader examples given in the tutorial section without much luck.
i am extreemly new to flash / website design ( i made my first site 6 months ago ) i am very interested in making a good looking flash site. I'm loading content through an XML file. Most of the content is working correctly. Flash is creating buttons based on some of the content in the XML file, the rest of the content in the XML file is static text and images.
Everything at first loads fine, the buttons all work, they change the text values but for the life of me I can't figure out why its not changing the image. I tried to create a function to remove the first image then load the new one but that didn't work.

The site appears to be loading on some machines, and not on others I can't determine a common theme. In this instance, loading = Splash screen appears, user makes language selection, main site then pre-loads. On a successful load it gets to 100% and displays the website, on a failed load it stalls at 99%.
Tests currently show:
Primary test computer (with problem)
OS: Windows 7
Browsers:Chrome 12
Internet Explorer 8
Firefox 3.6.13
Flash version: Chrome: 10,3,181,35
Internet Explorer: 10,2,159,1 and 10,3,181,34
Firefox: 10,3,181,34
On other machines, it works with Flash versions:
Chrome, Flash version: 10,33,181,35
Internet Explorer, Flash version 10,3,181,34
Since these tests, I've also tried it on a number of other Mac/PC's and haven't found any problems. Steps I have taken so far to try and troubleshoot: Cleared Flash cache and browser cache on machine where site works, and also on machine where site doesn't work. There is a file that doesn't appear to be load (this is showed in Safari on Mac) - framework_3.1.0.2710.swz - initially I thought this to be the problem, but yet the site works on some machines still without this file.
Does anyone know if there is a way to load content from a .txt file to flash (NOT VARIABLES BUT THE WHOLE CONTENT AS TEXT).

View 3 RepliesI'm having a "problem" with loading an external .swf in my main flash swf movie (which is a website). When the external .swf loads and displays itself on the main swf (website), the complete external swf file is viewable. To clarify: this external .swf has a world map that moves with a tween. If the animation is played within the main swf, I can see the whole world map and not just only that specific part of the world map that is visible on the "original" .swf
Make a mask over the complete external.swf? Where should i make the mask in the external .swf itself or on the movieclip in my main swf (website)?
I want to make a preloaded for loading the main content of the swf file. I put my main program code on frame 2 and put this code on frame 1:

My issue is it does not seem to track the progress. The trace statement in the onProgress function only displays after it is fully loaded. I thought this was suppose to loop.
However that content is being served without extension,- "myMovieClip", "myPicture".
So I need to find a way for checking extension or file type of my loading content - *.swf, *.png, *.jpg ?[code]...

so i've been working on a flash game for a few years now and i remember seeing a setting on a tutorial a while back where you can control how much a movie loads on each frame instance. For example the first frame of my game (loader) first shows up on 12%. I want the first frame to load on 1% and then preform the rest of the loading sequence with the first frame still visible. At the moment it isn't too bad, but once my swf file exceeds a few MB then this will cause me some issues.

I treid to use clear() and removeChild(), but this only works when I choose pic1 then remove that to load pic2, is there an easy way to substitute the content for the new content?

I am creating a web site that will use XML to load content - a sort of video gallery.I plan to make scrolling movie clip for navigation containing instances of the single clip - "movie", which contains thumbnail, title and link, and I plan to use duplicateMovieClip to create as many MCs in navigation as needed.
But I have the following problem:I made a single MC - "movie" that takes the title, description and link from XML.I take the lenght of the XML nodes and duplicate the movie clip through the following code, where the variable j is the required number of MCs:

I need to make a site 100% in flash but this site has to be update by the client.So my is how to add more pages to the site with a content manager?I read the forums and i understand how to dynamic create more menus without any problem with a CMS using xml, i also know how update a specific part of the site. i mean i can create dynamic text fields and update them with no problem also using xml. Well i can update fields that allready exists on the flahs it self. but in case that my client decide to add a new menu.. it has to redirect to a specific frame where the content of that specific theme is but if it don't exist.

I can move all the end key frames from 40 frames to 600 frames but it is working out how to do the others accurately plus the key frames on the arc start line which is the 3rd line down.

Are there sites that use a graphic frontend for updating flash content? If so, what is the common way of doing this? XML? PHP+XML+SQL? etc. I am relatively new to all of this but I have been messing with Flash and XML. I can update stuff on my site by just modifying the XML but I want to go a step further now and create a frontend on the web where people could do this.

I built my navagation bar in a movie clip, because they use independent timelines. However I can't seem to figgure out how to make the buttons in the movie clip effect the timeline of the main file. Is there something I'm missing? Or am I just going about this the wrong way?
