ActionScript 2.0 :: Flash RSS Reader, That Reads ATOM Feeds?
May 4, 2006I have a reader on my site, but it doesn't reader ATOM feeds?

View 1 RepliesWe changed atoms in our newspaper this Monday, but the new .atom feeds no longer parsing using me old .rss code.
View 2 RepliesI want to pull in data from a rss / atom feed into flash and show a movieclip everytime the feed is updated. Most tutorials I find are about displaying the information. I want real time movieclips to display if and when the rss / atom feed is updated without any of the information from the actual feed displayed.
View 0 RepliesThe screen reader (JAWS) is able to read the textfield in flash on Google's Chrome but not in Internet Explorer 8. I'm using the latest version of swfobject.
View 1 RepliesI am trying to make a very simple rss reader to display news feeds. All I really want to do is have a text box display the first item of the feed, wait for a moment, then display the next one. I've been searching around and can't find any decent tutorials on the subject.
View 1 RepliesI am trying to play on a flash player a video file which has an DREF atom that points to an external movie.
The DREF box has value URL and points to an external video file which has the mdat. However the flash video player (netstream object?) is unable to load the external file. I have been trying to work this out for the last couple of weeks and any tips would be
my flash reads the xml, but does not understand the tag php. I want to read my xml dynamically
code:

function randomOrder(targetArray)

var _loc2 = targetArray.length;

i'd like to know if this is possible: currently i have a file menu.xml which contains menu information 2 levels deep (main menu, sub menus). this i am reading into flash and generating the menu. i would like to change this process:
1. call a php script which creates the xml output and using headers sends that data back into flash. sending and loading vars is no problem.
2. use flash to generate the menu

I'm working with different flash movies for a client. she has several flash movies playing back to back as advertisement for different retailers. Now she wants me to add Rss Feeds for local weather on the flash movies. Now i never done this before and I'm not really that familiar with AS. I've also googled for the past hours and kept finding how to add Rss feeds to flash WEBSITES not MOVIES (.swf).
View 3 RepliesWe have a Flash application provided by a vendor. It reads its parameters from an xml file on our web server's file system. However, it can also be spoofed to read its parameters from an xml file sitting on another domain's web server. At first we thought crossdomain.xml might be able to fix this, but we've researched it and understand the purpose of crossdomain.xml. It won't solve this issue.Are there any ways of enforcing that a Flash application reads its input file only from the same server where the Flash application was served? Or is the recommendation just to initialize variables within the Flash app, not relying on an external file.
View 3 Replieshow Flash reads the PHP coding which was generated from the MySQL database.Though, I was wondering if anyone can help me with this task and/or clear stuff up. All I want to do is grab a single video file, when on the video.php page.the video.php will have the parameter, video.php?id=____ and than the PHP coding in the header will grab the database info for that video. Though, do I have to create a separate page for the flash to grab that information?Like, I notice that for Flash to grab that info, PHP needs to set it up like so:
Code:
vid=test.flv&title=title...
and ect. Though, do I have to echo this part out, or do I have to send that PHP info and create a page from it, than have flash grab the information from that 2nd page?
I am trying to insert an RSS feed into flash and struggling. Here is the code I am using:
ActionScript Code:
import flash.net.URLLoader
import flash.net.URLRequest
var rssURL:URLRequest = new URLLoader();
[Code].....
But I'm getting an error saying 'Implicit coercion of a value of type flash.net:URLLoader to an unrelated type flash.net:URLRequest'
i am using flash 8 with as2.can flash read and parse rss feeds? if it can can someone show me an example. Also can flash load an html page into an movie clip?

I want to build a Flash app that displays content from various RSS and XML feeds.Rather than import the whole data from the different feeds straight from the url into Flash (which would take forever anyway) I'm thinking of using a MySQL database to first import the numerous data feeds and then in Flash call a server side script to retreive only the data I need.
This way only data requested is loaded into flash, which is a requirement since I intend to make the flash app available on mobiles as a flashlite app - it keeps the app light and not demanding on network traffic which will ultimately cost money.
I will need to run the import periodically, perhaps once per hour.I'm not interested in building up an archive of the data since it is time specific and will be out of date, so I intend to clear out data as it expires, perhaps with a daily script.
I want to read an Atom in Flex.I can see in the debugger that he can read the Atom and that there are entries, I can see each value. So far, so good.But when I want to assign a value from the atom to a variable, he never gives any text. It's always this: "".
My code:
ch.Name = xml.title;
ch.Desc = xml.subtitle;
ch.Updated = xml.updated;
[code]....
But that's strange, because I can see in the debugger that it schould be "Tweakers.net".It becomes even more strange, because it works just fine with RSS.
The situation is, this resize code has always worked for me because I was using local images. I am now using a third party admin which feeds images through an application/octet-stream.
Whereas previously, I was loading the image with the Loader::load method but I am currently using the Loader::loadBytes to load the binary data because I am being fed a stream instead of an image/jpeg.
By switching to the stream, the code now fails to get past this line:
resizedImageData.copyPixels(e.currentTarget.getChildAt(0).bitmapData, cropRect, new Point(0, 0));

I'm trying to load YouTube playlist feed data and I'm having some trouble with the ATOM version, which is the YT default. I'm having no problems with the RSS version, but the RSS takes a few minutes longer to update when making changes to a playlist. I can load both and toXMLString(); both feeds but I'm getting an error when I try and parse the ATOM feed.So if the ATOM feed looks like this:
HTML Code:
<feed ... >

...

Shouldn't I be able to get the following trace to work after the completed load where playlistXML is my new XML for the feed:
Code:
trace(playlistXML.entry[0].title);
I'm getting a "TypeError: Error #1010: A term is undefined and has no properties." when I try and output that title data.And the RSS is like this:
HTML Code:
<rss ... >

...

the situation | an instance of the DateChooser component reads an xml file which houses info for homework assignments and their due dates. if there is a due date, make sure that date is highlighted on the DateChooser component. from what i've been told, the xml file stores urls which will tell if there is s/thing due on a particular date. the xml file | very simple, has an <activity> element with a 'date' attribute, i.e.
[Code]...
my remaining questions | What needs to happen as soon as the xml file is loaded? i.e. do i call a function which parses the xml data and puts it into an array? then the DateChooser component iterates thru the array looking for boolean values noting if there is an activity or not and if so, on which day. if it finds one, it sets its highlight property to true for that particular day. i'm setting up the xml file correctly.
I'm almost certain that this is impossible, but I had to ask. One of my clients wants to know if I can build something that can read the text in Flash, kind of like an HTML reader for the visually impaired. The user would be required to have speakers.
It wouldn't have to read all of the text in the movie, just certain dynamic text fields that are in the SWF.
is there a way, anyway, to save a flash file to reader?
View 15 Repliesim loading an atom feed from a shopify store and need to access the image, the feed looks like this:

Creating a CD to hand out with a pdf on it. i'd like to check for Adobe version or if reader is installed in flash menu (exe) before they're allowed to open it. then have them download latest from [URL] if not installed. seems fairly simple, just not finding anywhere that will give guidance.
View 1 RepliesI needed a personalized rss reader for this site i m building, but i m not familiar with Flash so i used an online tutorial. The resulting file plays nice when i preview it in Flash, but it wont return anything when i preview it in html or save it and open it as a file.The flash itself is made mainly of two white blocks. The first one shows a list of the news on the rss feed, if one of them is clicked, the second panel retrieves the info for that news article and previews it.As i said it works nice previewed on flash but not if saved in html nor uploaded to the server as part of a page.
import fl.managers.StyleManager;

This is called from flash/action script
File name: rssProxy.php
RSS reader uses PHP any work around on a non PHP server?

i'm interested to write barcode scaner with flash which would work for any platform that has built-in camera and while scanning wich automatically uses the camera for barcode reading . how to accomplish this or have a guide for this?
View 2 RepliesI have a question concerning this AS3 script, which is for XML-NEWS-READER i n FLASH
ActionScript Code:
var loader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
loader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, onLoaded);
var imgLoader:Loader = new Loader();
imgLoader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, onImgLoaded);
var url:URLRequest/*

As you can see there is a MovieClip in the Library: NEWS_item. The Clip has a textfield and a Imag field(a MovieClip). While the text is passed in the text fields of the NEWS_item Clip there should be afterwords the photos be placed with addChild(imgLoader). But online the last Image appears. What is wrong here?Does someone have experience with xml readers an images ?
I'm making a simple RSS reader in flash. I test the swf in Flash, it works perfectly. I publish the swf with html through Flash, and it works perfectly. However, when I incorporate the swf into a web site that I am currently developing, using swfobj 2.0 (dynamic) procedures (followed both by google code and lee's video tutorial on using swfobj 2.0), the html rendering does not work. I've tried copying the html code that comes from the Flash-published html, and paste that into the website I'm developing, but that straight out just doesnt work. I'm going to attach the AS3 code here. I pull the RSS xml info into flash, do a bit of string analysis to replace inactive links with active and cut out another snippet of the string, apply a style using an external css, and finally render as html.
Code: Select allvar loader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
loader.load(new URLRequest("[URL]"));
var xml:XML;
function onDataComplete(e:Event):void {
xml = new XML(e.target.data);
var il:XMLList = xml.channel.item;
[Code] .....
Latest version of FF is used in both pics. Also, an image to illustrate what happens:
Im considering making an online flash PDF reader.
View 3 RepliesI'm building a Flash based RSS reader, to be run on a kisok, but it's getting tripped up by crossdomain issues. In the abstract: SWF loads local TXT file containing paths of remote RSS feeds (XML files), then loads the feeds stored at those remote paths.

I was under the impression that an single asterisk/wildcard in quotes would mean any domain could access content on that server. But it's not working that way. I've tried changing the Publish Settings to "Access Local Files Only," and "Access Network Only," to no avail. I've also tried adding all of the relevant files to the trust list in Macromedia's Global Security Settings page.
