ActionScript 3.0 :: Read TotalFrames From An External SWF?
Sep 16, 2010I want to create a kind of "video player" that will allow me to move a playhead accross all theses SWF that are playing back to back. What I need to do is get the totalFrames of all these swf objects that are to be loaded. I tried loading each SWF (using the Loader class ofcoarse) and on the COMPLETE event grab the totalFrames and then move to the next SWF to populate an array that will be used to create a UI piece. The problem is that it starts playing the swf once it load and you can hear the background sound of each SWF. It also slows the program down. Is there anyway of grabbing the totalFrame property from external SWF's without actually having to load each SWF?

Jul 11, 2005I've inherited a menu bar (www.ensim.com). You can see that when you hover over the buttons (most of them, anyway) you get a drop down with subnav links.
The way they did it was to populate the movie clip with text from an external .txt file, so you could easily add sub links and change urls and stuff. Nifty idea.
The problem is a new url I'm trying to add apparently contains an escape character that it doesn't like. The new url is "/index.asp?page=solutions&sec=voip". When that goes in there, it won't write the link lable (<a href="borked url">This doesn't show up</a>)
Sort of weird, I kind of assumed that, being a plain old txt file, it would just spit it out and move along.
ActionScript 2.0 :: Read External .as File Without Recompiling?
Dec 21, 2009Just wondering if flash is able to do this using a 3rd party app perhaps? Im creating a flash application (closed source), and I want it for others to be able to customize the program in the means of changing text colors by editing the actionscript using an external .as file. Problem is, the external actionscript works, but it will only work when I recompile or republish the fla file in flash.
Looking for a way for flash to read the external .as file without using the fla file.

Jun 3, 2011In my emptyMC, i'm calling a newsticker, that needs an external .as class to works propertly. But when it opens, it doesn't read my _x and _y coordinates and neither the .as.
My code to it, is in a frame:

In my first frame I have locked the root with:
this._lockroot = true and i has been working perfectly.

The glossary function like a dictionary in that there is a word, its definition, and a link to a relevent page where the word appears. e.g. <label="apple" def="that thing people eat" url="apple.txt"> The reason I want it external to flash is so that new words can be added and removed manually and flash will simply update. A user can type in a word to search for in the "sorted alphabetically" list within flash.

This ascript reads an external xml file and picks up the tracklist names for current playing and previous playing songs on my radio station website. It works and looks perfectly fine but i need this to refresh every 30 seconds to read the dynamic xml file and update flash.

Feb 4, 2009I have a flash form. When the send button is pressed, I need to access a php file from another server that sends the email. I need to access the php file like this: [URL], writing the 2 variables, var1 and var2 in the link. I tried like this:

This form mailer is linked, like all the other form mailers, with an external php file.It was working pretty fine, until one day it never sent the content.I fired up firebug and checked the Network activities. My POST request shows up as expected and the parameters are set correctly.But still, the mail is empty. ActionScript 2.0 :: External Swf Loading Contact Form Php?
Aug 8, 2011I am trying to load an external swf image gallery onto a page in my website. I am new to action script and coding itself. I have spent the last five months perfecting my website and now am at the last stretch with just a couple minor issues but it is taking the life out of me trying to figure this out. I have tried to do the empty mc but just can't seem to get the swf to load. I don't know if I'm using the right code or even putting it in the right place. I even tried to use a preloader that I down loaded but keep getting an error Security Sandbox Violation when i load my external swf.
What I am trying to do is get the swf to load on the page that slides onto the stage when I select the gallery button. The main page is set up with a stationary bar with five buttons. One is for the gallery page that loads and that's where I want the swf to load when it slides onto the stage. I am using CS5 and AS 2.Here is the link to my site.I am also having issues with my contact form. I have deleted code and added code that I have found on many different sites but nothing I have tried has workedI am not to worried about the contact form if it's not an easy fix as I can buy one for 5 bucks.I am even willing to pay a small amount through PayPal to buy you a couple rounds or something for your time.Also don't be alarmed by the screeching sound when you click on the page links. it's only for a couple pages then it goes away. Has something to do with the MP3 music I added. Trying to get that taken care of now.

I figured out how to make the external SWF files show on its own layer below other layers on the main time line of the Main SWF. I created a blank movie clip file on it's own layer of the main time line and used this to call out to it:This worked perfectly. The website so far works perfectly with each page of the website being an externally loaded SWF. The problem I came across today though, is that buttons and text fields within the external SWF files don't work when they are loaded onto the "Main" SWF. They only work when I open the external SWF files individually. I really need to figure out how to make buttons and the text fields within the external SWF files when loaded onto the "MAIN" SWF.
I first came across this problem when I tried adding a form that I created to one of the external SWF files called guestlist_page_swf.swf. The form works on its own when I open that SWF individually, but when I try to load that SWF file with the form as a page on my "Main" SWF, the mouse doesn't even recognize that the submit button is a button, and it doesn't allow me to click on the text fields. Mar 5, 2009I'm trying to load a jpg from [URL]. I load if from my computer, it works.. load it online, doesn't. And it doesn't give me any errors or anything. The completeListener is not working! Is there a problem with flash loading from other domains or what?.. If I test it, it shows in Safari's activity that the jpg was loaded, but it won't display it.

Mar 14, 2011I'm trying to read some data in from a sql source, some of which contains double quotes embedded in the text. I know I can strip the doublequotes, but don't want to go that route if I can avoid it. I've tried replacing to double quotes with hex codes before passing the text via parameter to my flash file, but the text string always cuts off at the hex code, the same as if the double quote were present in the string. Feb 4, 2009I am having some issues with a php email form that I am using in my AS3 project. the form works perfect and all communication is good.however when the user is on the page and wants to tab to the next text field it jumps to one of my hyperlinks on the same page and not to the next text field down on the php form.
is there any way to stop this from happening.I have tried placing the php form on a seperate layer in a seperate mc and I have done the same with the hyperlinks .you can see what I mean by visiting this development site.(after entering go to contact)http:[url].....

Jul 17, 2010I have only two fields Name and Email in a Order form and a PayPal button for payment at PayPal ( into my account).I can do the mail portion but have no idea about PayPal code, however on search here I found one code and after pasting this one to the PayPal button it redirects to my PayPal account.But the question is anybody can post a message and leave the site without paying me. How can I do this thing so that the user will forced to pay before posting the mail form.
