I'm following along the "Hover Captions" tutorial on kirupa.com. everything works as it should, but I'm having a bit of a problem. I want to have the button that will be hovered over inside a movie clip. When I do this, though, that movie clip is moved around by my mouse.
I have a "hot" area where the user can drag around this newspaper looking thing. Also, there are hover captions that say, "Drag" and a caption that says "Close" over what will be the close button.Everything works fine.Until....Click to drag the paper thingy, then release it. Move your mouse off the paper, then back onto the hot area. The captions snap right to the center of the hot area.

this worked in a simple file where it was the only thing on the stage (see this thread). Now I am implementing it in a much more complex scenario and the movie clip in question is quite buried so bear with me:
The resize() function is just some simplified code from the resizing slideshow. Now this works as in when the ktn MC is rolled over the box appears where the mouse is and resizes to fit the text. When I do a trace on sometxt it reports back the correct text but the text itself doesn't show. The box is a light blue and the default for createTextField is black so that shouldn't be a problem.

I am trying to modify the hover caption tutorial from here at Kirupa to load the text in the caption from an external text file. Could anyone give me a hand trying to figure this out?I tried the simple way of loading external text but because the text is loaded in a MovieClip this does not work. Here is my code for the hover menu that currently loads the text dynamically through ActionScript:

I've stumbled my way through making the animation that I want to play and have saved it as a swf. I've now started a new project, added a symbol to a stage and am trying to make it so that the movie clip I created will play when I hover over it.
I've tried making a button where I add the movie clip in the hover state, and it will play, but it just keeps repeating even though I have a stop (); at the end of the movie clip (the one I had created before in a different project). Also, the button is way too sensitive and the clip starts playing when my mouse is still pretty far away from it.
I've been told that I should be doing this with action script - telling it to play my clip on hover. I've tried copying so many pieces of code I've found online but none of it has worked. I've read somethings that said I should be making a button and adding the action script to the button and then others that say not, and then others that say it should be a movie clip.
I'm so frustrated at this point, I could really really use some help. How do I get my movie clip to play when I hover? Please be specific - does the thing that I am hovering on need to be a movie clip that I'm adding the script to or can it be a symbol? Do I need to add any script to the original movie clip I created?

I'm working up a flash file that will eventually be controlled by the Kinect. So I've hidden the mouse and put a startDrag on a custom cursor. The problem is that I can't get a reliable result for a hover/over state when the cursor is over a movieclip. It only registers the over state sometimes and when it does, it's very brief, even if you hold the cursor over it for a long time.The problem seems to have something to do with the drag or the enter frame listener. It's like it can't process fast enough to realize when it's over the buttons.

Flash Clip The problem I am having is, he wants the movie to only play when a user puts their mouse over the video. I attempted doing this with a mp4 file and it worked using jQuery, but only when in Chrome. Here is that link:
MP4 Clip I want these demos to be viewable by the largest possible audience, so I was trying to stay away from Flash (also because I don't know Flash very well if at all). Does anyone know of a way to get this video to work in other browsers like in the second example? If not, how can I achieve that same idea using Flash?

I've done the Tutorial written here by Kirupa on how to display an hover captionTutorial It works perfectly in the stand alone movie.But i need to put this in another movie as external.When i do so, it doesn't work , actually 'cos it drag ALL the external movie and not only the item i want to do a Hover Effect.Why this??Maybe because it consider the command_root.x = 1 (and so on whenever there's _root)the root of the Main movie and not the one of the external??Must i correct all the code with level1 or there's another way??

i am trying to use the excellent hover caption effect in my movie. the buttons i want to put the captions on are inside a movie clip named mcRobot. so i tried to modify all the paths to go into the mc...but not working.
here is original code from tutorial and then the one i try. basically i put "mcRobot." before most of the paths where i think it should go.
does anyone have a version already modified to put into an mc?
I have got a very obscure problem that I cannot for the life of me figure out. I have a flash movie which contains a number of pages which contain dynamic text fields containing HTML read from my database. This works absolutely fine, however for reasons that I cannot understand when you hover over some of my links they move to the right so they are inline with the edge of the first linked image at the bottom. The code is as follows:

I am pretty new to ActionScript 3 and Flash. I don't want my movie clip to play unless the person's mouse curser is on the movie clip for more than a second. If the person just runs their curser over the movie clips really quickly, then it should do nothing. It must be more than a second. How do I code that?
I'm creating a small drag & drop activity, and I want to be able to check and see if the dragged movie clip is completely within the bounds of another movie clip (or at least in the bounds of a certain x/y zone on the main stage. I can't use dropTest because it returns true if any tiny bit of the movie clip overlaps with the dropTest movie clip.
I also thought of something that just checks the x/y coordinates of the dragged movie clip, but I'd need this to reflect a range of values rather than one coordinate. For instance, I'd want to return true if the movie clip's x is between 50-60 AND the y is between 50-60. I'm attaching a small graphic to illustrate in case my explanation isn't clear enough [URL]
I have created a flash website, each button is a movie clip with an invisible button over it containing the following script

each page is also a movie clip and on release of a button its played. the problem is that when i press another button to play another movie clip 'page' the old content is still there.
Is there a way of reversing the page transition i have used to bring out the movie clip and then bring in the next movie clip.
There is a bad gap in my knowledge with Event Dispatch and Event architecture, and this problem proves it. I've been getting nowhere on this problem for two days, I've posted everything to my Flash site. Go here, please: [URL] Click on "Flash Banners" The two thumbnails represent two different classes. Each class is identical. Both are "extends Movie Clip" classes. Tweeners of various types control the hover and click methods. URL Loaders load the thumnails which I then wrap in MC's and make them buttonMode = true, etc. Hover and click to load the Banners on the thumbnails.
I can't send an event from the Eagle movie clip or the T2D movie clip to tell the other to fade out. Both Banner classes are instantiated through a separate Base class. I'm sure this has to be an Event Dispatch from one MC to another and that it can't be done by the Base class. how I can send an Event or Event Dispatch and what the code structure is so one movie clip can in one class can tell the other movie clip in the other class to disappear while it's neighbour is playing. I'm happy to post code or explain / clarify anything that's not clear.
I've got a main timeline .swf file called "blank.swf" which contains nothing but two blank movie clips one called called "pproduct", the other called "ppalette". In the script frame of this main timeline I use the simple "Loader = new Loader();" method to load a URL of an .swf file into the "ppalette" movie clip. The "ppalette" movie clip contains several color chip buttons, each of which use the same Loader method above to load an external .swf into a clip. Here's what I want to do: let those color chip buttons, when the "blank.swf" file loads, be used to load an .swf movie into the "pproduct" clip on the main timeline. I'm wanting to be able to swap depths with various movie clips which will take out the movie which has the palette, but I want whatever that palette has loaded in the original "pproduct" clip to stay there.
