ActionScript 2.0 :: Image Entertainment Navigation - Enable Object To Push Away Another

I was looking around sites for navigation, and came across this: [URL]. I really like the way the menu with the four to five movies that scroll to the left and when hovering over them, the one you chose expands, pushes the other ones to the right of it away, and shows a description, stopping the movement. I'm thinking that this is partially the same concept as the infinite scroller, but how did they enable the object to "push" the other objects away? Tween class? [URL]

I have a class in which I have declared an array. The functions in that class are designed to make changes to the array, but it's not working:

Anything I do to customerCheck treats it as if it were a new array. This is especially obvious when using customerCheck.push in addCharToCheck() -- the trace always shows a blank array before push and an array with one object in it after the push... then next time it does the same. I know I'm making some sort of fundamental error regarding the scope of the array within the class but I just cannot find any good information on how to fix it! Moving to AS3 (been coding it for all of about 3 weeks) is a nightmare so far, and it seems to be the 'easy' stuff that causes me problems

This is a snippet of code in our custom item renderer which is in actionscript:

Alert.show( "Without this alert focus goes to next grid " );

Right now tab navigation works (on tab, focus goes to next editable cell) with the alert inserted in the code but I'm not sure why because I believe the alert in the code breaks the flow of event bubbling. However without the alert (which is what we are going for) the focus goes to the next grid in our UI.
You can see the attempts of trying to stop the event from going to other components. I have also tried to call preventDefault() and stopPropagation() on the datagrid when it receives a tab key event.
how to allow proper tab key navigation without an alert?

If I place a pattern or object over a 3d object created in CS4, will it affect it by warping it in any way.I'm looking for a way to push a pattern over a 3d object, for the pattern to look like the 3d object is "under" it.

I want a symbol (instance name: "bullet") to appear at the same x and y where another symbol ("this" symbol, the symbol the code is attached to) is when the spacebar is pushed, but only if "bullet" is off-screen. I tried the following code, but "bullet" doesn't appear on top of the other symbol ("this") when I push the spacebar:

I'm having a very weird problem with a vector in my application.
Details...I have the following classes.
Person,Player,PlayerController.
Player extends Person. Person extends ObjectProxy in order to enable binding.So the Player class has the [Bindable] tag.The PlayerController class contains a remote object calling a php method to receive a firstname and a lastname and when the CallResponder gets the result from the call,the result handler creates a Player instance. At that moment I am trying to push the player object into a Vector..
The problem is the following.Every time the push method is called, the vector is being populated with the last player that was created but not just in the end of the vector. It replaces the other instances as well! So the vector always contains the most recent player instance but in every position of it.I have also tried doing it with an Array and the results are the same.

hey, I was wondering if there's any way to push a copy of an object onto an array without having to create a seperate variable for each object.
For example- in c, i'm used to doing something like having a 'temp' object- and then in a loop i would set the value of the objects members and push it on to the array (vector). If i try to do something like that in flash though, it stores a reference to that object in the array, so every time it changes every new element in the array changes to have the latest values of the temp object.
Without using as2.0 classes (i.e. just mx style) is there any way I can get the effect i'm trying to get here- just have one instance of an object that i can redefine in a loop and push a copy of it into the array so that i wouldn't have to declare a separate variable for each one which would defeat the purpose of the array.

Is it possible to enable the user to resize an object in the flash movie?
What I want is a box for example, that can be dragged and dropped but also resized both vertically and horizontally. For example the user is able to drag the bounds of the box in a direction thereby making the box bigger or smaller. The mouse should also change to tell the user that he/she is enabled to do so.

My problem is that when I try to pass an object from the navigator.pushView(view, dataobject), I can't figure out how to access the dataobject from actionscript. I can access {dataobject.property} from MXML easily, but I want to set a variable in the new view to the passed dataobjects property.

I've created an image gallery that loads movieclips from my library with a simple navigation system. Everything seems to be working fine however I'd like to add some additional functionality. What i would like to do is have the navigation first appear on a splash page. When a user selects one of the nav buttons, the nav will fade out. The image selected will then fade in as well as the navigation but smaller and tucked away to the side.
Users can then continue to sift through the gallery with new (smaller) navigation. I don't know if any of that made sense so I whipped up a few images to demonstrate what i mean. I've also attached a zip file with the current gallery I've created.

I've adapated a carousel to work on a flat basis, and its working well. However i wish to add navigation to this that will scroll one image to the left/right when clicked. The problem is this navigation i've added works fine for first few clicks and then stops working due to it never reaching the correct destination... The formula im using is simple enough i just cant see why it fails....

i have a menu which has 10 items. there are sub menus for each of them. the submenus total to 40 items. and when i click on ech of these submenus, then i need an image to appear on a part of the stage. Now, I need the same effect for ech of the image. Say when i click on the 1st submenu of the 1st main menu, the image of an apple comes from the bottom the stage to the centre of the stage.
Now when I click on any other submenu - say 1st submenu of the 3rd main menu, this apple image should go off the stage from the top and an image of mango should appear from the bottom of the stage to the centre of the stage (same as how apple image appeared). So, basically, i need any image to come from the bottom of the stage to centre of the screen and whn a diff image is calld, the image on the screen shld go off frm centre to the top.

I'm trying to put together a sideshow using a modification of load_images.fla (a sample file supplied with Flash) combined the the 'Kirupa Menu with Slider' tutorial ([URL]) The slideshow uses a 'next' & 'previous' button to click thought the images. In addition to this I have a separate slide menu navigation (currently just numbers 1-7), with a rectangle highlighting the number of the image being viewed. I would like to move the rectangle to show which image is being viewed, when the 'next' or 'previous' button is pressed. The follow code shows the actionscript for the 'next' & 'previous' buttons....

I am getting a mysterious result when trying to load profile images from a logged in Facebook user's friends list into an as3 canvas app. In pretty much every (non-facebook) application I've made where loading an image is required I use the following:

I can't retrieve the image from the event object,and I am given no error at all.It all just fails silently.If I remove the line var image = evt.target.content, the process runs through the whole array.I can't think of any reason this would occur. Furthermore, if I look in firebug's net activity, I see I see the images get loaded as long as I do not have the line I just mentioned included. I just can't seem to get the image data from the event object to add it to stage or a container movieclip.

i have my nave bar as my main swf then i load each page as an external swf in a mc container. each button should be marked when you navigate to the respective page. how would i load a current pages icon over the generic one when i navigate to that page then unload it when i navigate to another page?

attempt to create an array that will contain 8 instances of 2 different movieclips. As each (checkmark MCs) is added to the stage, another attention getter clip will be removed (circle MCs).So on my first frame of this command one bluecircle should be popped from the stage, and one bluecheck pushed. Then the same with the green clip on the next frame, again back to the blue's on the following frame, and finally both one blue set and one green set.I had attached them and removed them via strict declarations of attachMovie(...) and removeMovieClip(...) linked to the next/previous buttons I had encoded but found that this was a bit buggy as it sometimes generated extra clips that weren't necessarily added and removed correctly depending on the step the user was at.
