but i'm not sure what the type is if it is coming from a database? I sent it the database via php and need to receive it back into flash. Even a reference so I can go look, I'm just not sure what class to begin with.

Jan 27, 2009initially when i want to load data from database, it will output all the elements from a tablenow i create a timer to make sure it will query from the database every interval to keep track of the updated content, however, the problem comes in...when i delete a data from there, the data was somehow 'cached' into flash, meaning, it wasn't updated at all.weird thing is, if i port the data over to xml and update the file, the flash would show the updated data correctly

Specifically I have created a flash program for a teacher that runs tests for her students. When a student loads up the .swf they are prompted for their name. Ideally we would like to be able to save the progress of a student after he/she has completed a test and then use that data later. Is there a way to save data like this and call upon it at a later time?

Oct 17, 2006I recently found kirupa and started learning flash, now i've modified the code from Senoculars XML search to search through keywords for my images and display the results. When you click an image it gets magnified. My problem comes from wanting to be able to use a button to change between the images, like in this photo gallery.My problem is getting the number of the image I just clicked, if I can get that, writing the function to step between images will be no problem.

May 4, 2007What I am trying to do is bring data in from (mysql)PHP into flash 8 (actionscript 2.0). I got part of this to work. I bring in the text and diplays just fine. So the next step was, To set the font size from anothere php loadvars (code below). Flash will not pick up that part of the code, were I set the font size.

Jun 27, 2009I have a page display people's name and when you click on a name information such as age, height, and weight are displayed. In Flash, can you create the same thing? I know with displaying data from a database you have to have dynamic text boxes set up to load the info but can you have it set up so you can load a name from a database and THEN click that name to have it load the other info?

Feb 10, 2005i have a database with two tables. one table holds the following:[code]i have a php script that goes as follows (i'm ignoring the description fields for now):[code]now i'm not 100% sure this script is correct, so if anyone sees problems in it, please do let me know. i know that it needs some additions to pull the linking table (status) to display the status_id, but i have no clue how to write that as im not familiar with php, i just took this script from a user on this forum (i apologize for forgetting your name) and edited it.
anyway, i want to be able to pull out all those fields and load them up in flash so i can use them in the scripts over there.i have a grasp on the LoadVars(); a bit but not sure how to pull all this out and if its correct so that i can use it in flash. the fields im most worried about using is the number field in the lots table and the status_id (in both i guess since its a linking table).

The echoed xml in the first code produces a url link that contains a link to an image in the database. The flash is supposed to display the image on a flash movie clip call movieobject. I am having problem getting the image displayed in flash.

They are stored in the database as base64 encoded stringsretrieved using PHP, send over to flex as XML (which creates a fairly large XML output file)Now my problem is that, while I can display upto 2-3 images easily, anything more than 3 or sometimes 2 images will cause the images to be corrupt. Sometimes the whole app fails.I am guessing this is due to the large size of the generated XML. I know I am doing something wrong here. I want to know what is the proper method for storing/retrieving a lot of images in a flex application.

My problem is that after the random images fade in, display, and then fade out I need the next movie clip to load. Right now I can't figure out how to get the second movie clip to load Following the random loading movie clips...all the other animations want to play at the same time the random movie clip plays.I used a modified version of the Kirupa random loading background...it's on the timeline as "Location" with the action scripting for the random load on that layer. Sep 17, 2009I'm a designer working in tandem with a PHP programmer on a project where we will display a random image via flash from a selection of images stored on a database. Accompanying this image is a tagline and a path for a button and these variables are sent via a php script. The actionscript then picks up these vars via loadVars and displays them on screen - well, almost.
The tagline is displaying in the dynamic text box with no problems, but I'm struggling with how to display the image in the empty MC I've created (called 'pic') and also to attach the path to the button I've created (called 'projectURL_btn'). I'm fairly sure it's something fairly simple but I just can't crack it.

Jul 7, 2009I'm trying to figure out how to generate an array whose elements are each arrays to make a quick loading database of sorts.the main array could essentially be something like "employees" while each employee would have demographic data like age, salary, gender, etc.In some cases the information on some employees would be greater than others, and options created by "push" would imply the number of elements within each employee array would be variable until generated.[code]But I get the feeling this type of array as it is currently described doesn't lend itself well to adding new elements in the way I've described.My goal is once an employee's information has been entered and saved, I can call up their info by array number like aEmployee[2], and if employee 2's name is Bob, then Bob's name would appear in the text field, along with all the other fields related to Bob's array, such as being male, 42 years old, and living in Witchita Kansas.Would I modify a multidimensional array, or do I want an array within an array, and is there a way to add "arrays" as elements?

Dec 17, 2009I want to create a Flex 3 application running in Adobe Air that accesses an SQLite database and I need to keep this database in sync with an SQL server 2005 database running a website.Is this something that Flex supports or is it going to be a custom script? Also, has anybody done anything like this?
Edit: The synchronisation can be done on a daily basis rather than real time. The data will be read only from a front end perspective with a CMS to do updates on the website.
Php :: FLEX Database Will Not Refresh After Updating Database Unless Browser Is Restarted?
Jun 7, 2010I have researched this issue all over and most people say use the .refresh() method to update a datagrid after updating or adding a new record. This does not do anything. So, my issue is this. I have a mySQL database hosted I am connecting via PHP, I have 1 mxml file and 2 php files (I know I can use just 1 but I am learning and this was easier for me to use for troubleshooting). The issue is no matter what I change on the datagrid the update does not show on the datagrid unless I close out of IE and reopen it. I can refresh or open the page in another window and the update does not show. I have to exit entirely and restart in order for any updates or additions to show.Here is my licenseTracker.mxml

Database :: Save A Form To The Database Without Knowing The Field Type?
Jun 17, 2010I am working on a function to generate a form at runtime in Flex based on a call to the DB. The call to the DB returns the field types, id, tooltips etc as an arraycollection, the arraycollection is then parsed in order to ascertain what control to display based on the type field in the array - this bit works fine.However, i am stuck on trying to save the form fields back to the database using a CFC.my form rendering code is as follows but how do i save values entered back to the database? rendering code..

I am new to Flex and have an issue I hope you all can help me out with.
I have researched this issue all over and most people say use the .refresh() method to update a datagrid after updating or adding a new record. This does not do anything.
So, my issue is this. Database :: Approach Local Database Management Via Flex/Air App?
Jan 17, 2011I am planning on using Flash Builder 4/Flex to write an AIR application which is primarily based around recording, storing and analyzing data.I'll be creating charts etc that need to update in almost real time.It's essential to me that the application be able to function without an internet connection so I need a local database of some variety,but I would also eventually like to build in online synchronization of the data where either database can be update each other based on newer information. Moreover, some type of encryption would definitely be welcome, and speed is a large concern
Synchronization: Primarily updates/additions/deletions will be done on the offline database, but ideally I want to have a web interface that will allow the same updates/additions/deletions and will be synced (beyond that I'm not sure exactly how to do it as I can model that based on what is most achievable).I'm wondering if there's any prebuilt engine that could handle the synchronization of 2 databases. I may end up having the web interface only be for additions, which would be significantly easier to sync.. and I may start that way, but i want to build with technologies that will best allow me to implement full online crud at some point.
