Nov 12, 2004im loading a text from a mysql-db with php. I use url encoding/decoding but still my flash shows a small "square" instead of "�" (for example) in the textfield (using arial). Embedding the font doesnt work either i think.

Jan 18, 2010On any flash site that I have found on the internet with an input field, it is not possible to input an accent using my mac. Create an input text field on the stage and publish the fla, then view it in a browser. If you try to input an accent in the .swf, it works fine (� : option-e, release, push e again), but if you try to do it in a browser the accent does not appear. (This seems to work fine for a pc, though its a different input code).

Mar 27, 2010I have this problem with text set to bitmap text rendering. With fonts like pixel fonts like standard 07_51, Kroeger etc. I can't get them to show the right accents. This shows on stage and in runtime and it occurs with static, dynamic fields and input fields. When I choose anti-aliasing then it's ok, but that isn't the purpose with those pixel fonts, right? I've set the correct font-embedding settings.
I checked it on two computers with Flash CS4 v10 on MacOS X 10.6.2, Belgian Keyboard, FontExplorer Pro for font management.
Embed Accented Latin Fonts (like French) Into A Dynamic Text Field In Flash CS5 Called From A .txt File?
Jun 29, 2011I've been using Flash for a few years now and I've recently (5 months+) started using CS5 package.My query is how do I successfully embed accented latin characters into a "classic" dynamic text field in my compiled Flash movie that are called from an external text file. I've searched the various forums online and all the methods demonstrated have not worked.
What I've done so far is to to select my dynamic text field, click on "Embed" within the PROPERTIES area, choose the font and the weight, then add any of the foreign characters and/or glyphs to the "Also include these characters:" area then finish up and compile. When I run my SWF file, the glyphs and accented fonts are missing but all the other typical Latin characters show up.
I tried this same method in CS4 (because we have an old Mac in the office too), and almost the same thing happened except instead of completely missing out the glyphs and fonts, it showed a box (almost like an image placeholder) instead.

Aug 26, 2009I have searched high and low on this one and there are many different answers and suggestions.I am loading my text in via XML. I have made sure that it is UTF8 encoded.For any other dynamic text I would simply embed the characters I need.
So far I can change the colour and the size of the text in the combobox but just can't seem to figure out how to embed the french characters I need in there.I have created my own font and embedded the characters I need into a dynamic text field on the stage. The created font is named "appfont"

Apr 1, 2010I want to have an AS3 app load images from url supplied by the user. But I don't want a malicious user to be able to load an SWF file in place of the image, such as with an altered extension "maliciousSwf.png". Well, not sure how big a security threat that is above and beyond the ability of the hacker to decompile swf, but I think that ideally such behavior should not be allowed.
So, is there any way to prevent this? When people allow users to load images in their Flash apps, do they somehow guard against loading of SWF? Or is this really absolutely no big deal?

Nov 15, 2010How would you defer loading of other graphics on the page until after the images in a Flash gallery's images.xml file are finished loading?Is there any way to detect for this, or would I only be able to check if the flash swf object is finished loading? I'm pretty sure the swf object would be loaded/ready as with document.getElementById('flashobject').onload = function(){}; before the corresponding images have loaded though, instead of after.

Apr 11, 2011I'm building a flash website which uses a google map for a contact section and another one generated via external class for a projects section (for each one of the projects available there will be generated a map and a marker).This website uses SWFAddress and each of the projects receive SWFAddress dynamicaly via xml, pulling in the name of the project.The problem is when I test the website localy, on Flash IDE both the maps are loaded fine, but once I try it online on a webserver just the map on contact section is being loaded.I've tried to use a different key for each other -the contact section map key based on an url.Does anyone know what the problem might be? Why can't I just use this.SWFLoader.addEventListener()?
When is it appropriate to use contentloaderinfo?

This is the tried and true method and works everywhere except if I compile the application into an ipa file for iOS devices.
What's the best practice for dynamically loading images in Flash applications that will target iOS as well?

Sep 21, 2010I have a game built and I would like to reduce the loading time to the minimum possible.One of my ideas is to load the essential assets and some lower quality images the first time, leaving the higher quality images and some of the functionality out at first (for instance things like buttons that change the background color), and once the player enters the game, the rest of the functionality and its assets (images and sounds) will be loading in the background using the Loader class.So once the non-essential assets and the high quality images have loaded they will fade in and substitue the lower quality assets in the most subtle way possible.
Also... Would it be better to have various instances of a "Loader" class and try to load everything at once, or load stuff in order with a single instance of the "loader" class listening to the Event.COMPLETE event ?

Oct 11, 2009I have a movieclip clip that plays when the movie starts, the movieclip is a visual assets that show's that the application is loading some information but it's not showing any loading progress, just playing while the assets are loaded.I created a for loop that will load the assets using a simple loader, and then when the object is loaded the application push the object to an array.Problem is that when the loading starts all the animation that i have on screen stops until the loading is finished.The whole point is that the animation will play while it's loading.

Mar 2, 2005I tried searching for an answer to this on the forums and it seems you can't duplicate a movieclip that has a dynamically loaded jpg in it, I mean you just get a duplicate empty movieclip?What I want to do is have 3 copies of a pic, each tinted a little differently, and have them converge and reveal the "composite" of this pic. Do I then have to use loadMovie 3 times?Does loading the same 50kb image at the same time mean you're actually loading 150kb?
