Reading an Actionscript book and they threw in the term "temporary handle to the root movie clip". searched the book itself, googled it...it's confusing me becasue I don't know what the purpose of a handle movie clip? Anyone?

Though I've completed the tutorial, and customised the gallery to my own needs, however I'm trying to make a very small change to it - and no matter what I do, keep running into problems. I'm trying to replace the rectangular handle with my own customised handle - a (20 x 20) 'circular' png image that I've imported into Flash, made a graphic and stored in the library (though I understand it can be imported using actionscript, like the other images in the gallery).

I want to use the circles as rotation handles.Now the code below works but it terribly, terribly slow.I've seen a couple of other examples of rotation using the mouse position, but I want the polygon to rotate via the handle; I think that means the angle of rotation needs to be updated each time the mouse moves.Is there a cleaner/more efficient way to do this?Also, this works only for one direction right now no matter the x/y direction you move the mouse.

I currently have one movieclip in my library, but 4 instances of it on the stage. I was wondering what the best way to animate them so they can do things 'separately'- I'm not sure if Actionscript is the answer, but it's worth a try. I just don't want all of them to move when I move one of them (when I try to animate them inside their movieclip).Possible solutions: I already have one that isn't very... resource friendly. For every individual instance I can turn it into it's own Movieclip, so it isn't affected by the rest... but if I were to have many, many movieclips on the stage, that would quickly overflow my library. If that's the only way fine, but I'm sure there's a work around.

View 4 RepliesI'm using Adobe Flash CS4.The language is Action Script 3In my library I have 2 items:playerwallthe player object is already functioning correctly with moving him around.Now when I place multiple wall objects into the stage (wall = 32x32 px) I want to prevent the player from moving when he walks into a wall.I've tried giving all the walls the same instance name and just check for a collision with that object but when I do that the collision only works for 1 of the walls.I could give all the instances of wall a different collision script but this is way to time consuming, is there another way to globally define the wall as solid for the player?

I'd like to just grab one and use it to drop into my code, so all the Flash designer has to do is just replace the temporary SWF with the one that's going to be used on the live site.
Our application is a ASP.NET + Flex running on IIS 6.0 server. On the client machines we run IE8 for display. IE creates temp files that seems to be taking up disk space. The Temporary Internet Folder size continues to grow seems to exceed the limit of 8MB - automatic recycle. When and under what conditions does IE delete files from the temporary folders?

I am trying to prevent users from viewing my site and then simply going into their "temporary internet files" and stealing my swfs and XML files. I have been using a great .PHP code to stop this but now I am working on a server server that only uses .aspx files. Does anybody know of a way that I can stop files from being stored in the "temporary internet files" folder.
View 1 RepliesI have an application that uses all four direction keyboard keys (up, down, left, right), but when I hit the slider on the application with my mouse, I can't use the left and right keys, at least not on the stage, 'cause the slider moves when I hit those keys. I know that this is default with all sliders...but must you remove this with a keyboardEventListener.removeDefault? If so, how do I do it?
View 1 RepliesI have an action script that reads a map and the information on it and then allows me to search by name and returns the coordinates of that name.The script is compiled and executed via a local web page that I open and the map is on a web site.Anyway, I am trying to figure out where the action script is storing the information so that I can dump it to a flat file to share.If I close the web page, the information is gone and I need to re-scan the map which can take up to 4 hours.I looked in the cache directory on my hard drive and the infomration is not being saved there that I can find which leads me to believe that it's being stored in my computers memory or a temporary table.My experience is with VBA, not action scripts, so I am not sure if theres a way to locate where the information is being stored and retrieve it to write to the flat file since I can't write it into the code to export the flat file for me.

View 1 RepliesI am trying to build an MXML application with Flash Builder 4.5, and I am integrating an API that requires the root of a display object to be a MovieClip. Personally I think this is bad design but I have to go with it. The root object always seems to end up as the stage, because of course I have to add the object to the stage for it to be added to the display list. Is there some way that I can either change the stage type in an MXML application to a MovieClip or is there some way to force a MovieClip wrapper to become the root of a display object?

But another time using this script (press Ctrl + Enter) that time cache files are running, so the preloader text doesnt showing not properly. So how can I remove the cache files using flash.....

There is a web game that I play and I used fiddler to see what temporary files it downloaded. While I was playing I deleted all those temporary files including the sounds and flash files. But it didn't affect the game at all. Why is that? I checked in fiddler and it doesn't look like the files were redownloaded.

What's wrong and right? Currently I write it like version 2 and I'm not sure if I should change it to version 1. I know most developers write like version 1 but I'm a little bit confused because I am totally unaware about version 1. It's a monitoring application, so requests are made regularly to the server. The browser has stored a large amount of temporary internet files on the client pc even getting it saturated.
