ActionScript 2.0 :: Passing A Var From LoadMovie To Main?
May 25, 2010
So I got a plethora of games (group project), and we found the easiest way of putting them together is by loading each .swf of those games into a main .fla that will load each and will act as a menu between them. I need to know how a movie loaded to the root timeline can communicate with the main root.
I'm using _root.loadMovie("swf.swf"); to load the movies (one frame per swf). I tried containers with _root.container.loadMovie("swf.swf"); (empty MC on the stage with container instance name) but it ended up just looping the first frame of the loaded swf and not working like it should.
I tried using _global, that didn't work. I'm not sure what else to try, or what would work.
I have several movies (movieA, movieB, movieC) that have a button in them that loads another movieb into the same level thus replacing them. My problem is that i need the movieB to start playing from a particular frame depending on which movie, a, b or c loaded it.
I'm trying to find a way of using variables to make it work or maybe just a simple gotoAndPlay function but with no luck. Can you send a variable via loadmovie function?
I have a main SWF that is comprised of scenes. I have buttons that go between those scenes at the bottom (prevscene, nextscene). This works well. On the last scene, I have it loadmovienum and it loads an SWF that has a few scenes in it. It also has the buttons to go between those scenes, which works well.My issue is the first scene of that SWF that is loaded in the main SWF needs to have a button that will send the main SWF to the previous scene in it. Of, conversely, I need the buttons in the main SWF to tell the loaded SWF to go nextscene/prevscene.
I've imported my animations into a single projector using loadmovie. When the external animations finish playing how do i get the main projector to recognise that the animation has finished and move onto the next scene ?
I have 2 flash files, one is mine (the main container) and one is a external swf.I want to load the external SWF to my container SWF.I write this code in my AS2 container, inside the main timeline flash (mine flash). In the first method, I add a movie clip with instance name mc1 to the first layer:
I really try to use that code - BUT !!! -> if I use this code the external SWF predominant, my main SWF code and all the rest of my code dosen't work (like the setInterval() timer).... I want to load the SWF like the second example and still run the setInterval() function.
So I'm trying to make a project with multiple rss feeds on one page. All the rss feeds are in one xml file. this works fine but now I need to retrieve rssdata from each rsslink.
To do that I want a variable to be filled up with the rssData that I retrieve via an external actionscript file.
So in my main actionscript I would have something like this:
ActionScript Code: var rssLoader:RssLoader = new RssLoader; var rssData = /* THIS IS WHERE I WANT MY RSS DATA TO COME */
I´ve searched this all over the net but no success. I have a .swf loader were you can choose a language and then load the main swf. What I´m trying to do is to pass an variable from this loader.swf to the main.swf.

My main SWF file, "working_login.swf" has a movieclip that loads another SWF file, called "membership.swf". It loads this SWF file inside of a movie clip which, upon a press of a button, tweens the movie clip containing the "membership.swf" onto the screen. Membership.swf allows you to login using "testing" as the user, and "testing" as the password. I have no idea how to dynamically change the username_txt dynamic text on the main swf.
What I want: I want it to display "Hello, guest!" when there is noone logged in and no cookie set. I want the program, upon someone logging in as "testing" to have the dynamic text box display "Hello, testing!" upon a successful login. Right now, I have absolutely no idea how to go about this. I am using a class to set the dynamic text, but I cannot figure out for the life of me how to set it up to recognize a guest VS someone logged in. These are the following files that I am using: [URL]

i am using flash cs3,i have a main movie that load many swf using a document class..i need to pass "userid" variable from the main movie to loaded swf so they can change their content dynamically.
I have a main mxml file (flex4) and want to pass a parameter (user_name) to a component in a directory called components. When I run the program, the user_name is NOT being sent from the main to the component file. (Interestingly, if you make the component visible, you can see the parameter has been passed).
I have hacked much larger files down to get the following two files: Main <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <s:Application xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx" minWidth="955" minHeight="600" [Code] .....
I havent found quite what I want elsewhere or at least am not accomplished enough to adapt I'm trying to create a project that shows radio stations with logo, listen button etc The datasource is an xml file with child tags like 'name','image' and 'listen' for each parent, 'station'. I access this data via the main application with creationComplete="radioService.send()"
Im a complete beginner in Flex programming. I have an application with a main .mxml file, and a certain class Foo that I call from the .mxml. In Foo, I make a URLRequest and listen for the Complete event. Then I found myself with the returned data in a Foo function, but I have no idea how to communicate it to the .mxml part of the application ! I looked into ArrayCollections but I can't seem to understand how they work. Isn't there a way to modify, from inside the class, a variable with a global scope ?
I can't seem to load a movie clip, and then pass some variables from that loaded movie clip back to through stage_mc it is loading into - to the SubClip.
The structure is as follows:
Main >SubClip >>Stage_mc
Where the new movie clip is loading into stage.
I need to pass two variables from the loaded clip into the SubClip. Simple vars to fill some dynamic text in SubClip.
I've done the whole _root.myvar thing, _parent, and _global.
I know that the best way to make a connection from my main app to my modules is through interfaces.
So, my problem is, how can I implement an interface so my module can send and receive data from my main app?, cuz, I understand that my module implements an interface that is used by my main app.. but, can I do it "viceversa"?
Other issue I have is, why do I need to call my main app children if I can just import a module's class?.
I wonder if it is possible to pass values from external .swf files to the main projector (.exe) file.? I would also like to know how a button of an external swf file can control the playhead of the main .exe file.
I have this map of tasks. and each map have these houses which when clicked will take you to a certain task(external swf). and when accomplished should have a button to take you back to the map(main swf), and also the button to send a value to the main swf that the task is accomplished.
im trying this every which way.creating global variables etc.I have a movie clip with a text area (lets call it txttest)there is text inside it which i want to send from this movieclip on the main frame to a text area (lets call that one txttestB) on the main frame. Whatever i try i get undefined in the text area on the main frame.I have tried this...
I have a movie. In it are some buttons and a dynamic text field. When I press the buttons is should load text from a database into the dynamic text field. If I run the movie by itself (ie. not by LoadMovie()-ing it into a different movie) the dynamic text field gets filled with text and all is well and good. However, when I use LoadMovie() to load this very same movie into my main movie, the buttons no longer work; the text field stays empty.
Is it possible to loadMovie into the main movie when the swf is not located in the same folder that the main swf is locatedThis is the script that works when I am loading the swf from the same folder as the main swf,
I initially wrote my Main class to read from LoaderInfo to parse some parameters, but then I recently added a Preloader, with that being the "main class". Is there a clean way to move things over, or to retrieve LoaderInfo?
I am having troubles passing an x and y argument into a package function that creates a projectile on stage at the tank.gun's x and y.I have attached a zip of the code I am working on.[code]
I Have a flashmovie thats almost done and will soon hit the internet, but I want to add some animations into the website its two gears that Im about to put at the bottom of the page and when a button releases in the main flashmovie the two bottom gears will turn a few frames and just stand still. These three movies are all separate (main movie, first gear and second gear).
It's a homepage designed in HTML and flash that has this "main flashmovie" in the middle of the screen, the size is about 1500(width)X800(height). And the gears is about 800wX200h placed at the left and right side bottom of the page. Dont worry the site is easy to apply to any screen resolution.I have been looking everywhere for any soul out there who suffering from the same problem but no success. Is it possible to script a button in the main movie to launch two separate movies in their own contents?
I added a website preloader in a separate scene to the main frame of my website and scripted it to go to and Play the main scene or frame of the website when finished loading. I then put a command in the first frame of the main scene for the movie to stop (); at that point. The problem is that now the buttons on the main page don't respond to any behaviour commands to go to and stop at other frames in the main scene. I'm not sure if this is a conflict between the stop(); command in the main scene and the button behaviour command to go to and stop at another frame or an error with the way I'm identifying the scene and frame.
