ActionScript 2.0 :: Preloading 5 Swf's + A Twist - Load The 1st Scene While The User Waits

Aug 9, 2005

I am creating an online demo which has 5 scenes that play one after another. My goal is to load the 1st scene while the user waits. Once the 1st scene starts to play, the 2nd scene begins downloading quietly in the background. That way, once the 1st scene is complete, it will automiatically play the second scene, the viewer none the wiser. I don't have any user interaction here.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Drag And Drop With A Twist?

Feb 2, 2011

In brief, the goal is to allow the user to drag any of the balls to any of the drop targets, change their mind and replace them again, but if they are not over one of the drop targets the ball being dragged will bounce back to its original location.Secondly, if the user drops one of the balls on to a drop target that has another ball already there, it will replace that ball and send it back to its original position.

Finally, while the user is dragging a ball, if they release the mouse button while their cursor is outside of the restricted drag area, the ball will return to it original position. This I have working with ActionScript Code:

stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, dropIt, false, 0, true);

AS Code below

ActionScript Code:
//
var startX:Number;
var startY:Number;
var counter:Number = 0;

ActionScript 2.0 :: Using Simple Frame Label Buttons With A Twist

Mar 22, 2007

I designed a navigation menu that has 4 buttons. When you rollOver btn1 it goes to a nested movie clip and plays the frame label "a1" which changes its color. On rollOut it plays the "a2" which restores it to its original color. Very easy so far and common. onRelease the button is instructed to stay a a1 to indicate its on.Here is the twist. When you roll over btn1 part of the animation covers up the other buttons. Same thing is you roll on btn2 for example, it colors the buttons accordingly. So I started off by creating a variable and setting it to 0. Then I built my rollOver, rollOut, & onRelease code for each button and said if the variable is not != to whatever number then play the frame label using that logic but it has failed to fully work. The other button even though its covered up with a different color still works so it just makes a sort of glitch.[code]

ActionScript 2.0 :: Sending User-drawn Images To An Adaptable Grid Layout In The Next Scene

Nov 16, 2008

I've created a drawing application intended as an interactive art piece for a gallery. I'd like to have what each visitor draws in one scene to somehow be carried over into the next scene and be displayed on clicking a button. Ideally, the user-drawn images will scale and position themselves accordingly to maximize the screen space. This way, if only three people have visited and drawn something, their three images would enlarge to fill the screen. If 12 people draw something, those 12 images would shrink to fill the space.

I'm thinking I might need to look at creating adaptable/expandable grids, but I'm also just stumped on how to carry user-drawn images over to other scenes. I have very little AS background and need things spelled out for me explicitly...

I'm working in CS3, but writing in AS2. On the stage, I have a palette of colours the user can choose from, a movieclip called "canvas," and another called "controller." Here's my code:

Attached to a movieclip called "Controller" is:
onClipEvent (load) {
topDog = "window1";
_root.createEmptyMovieClip("holder",100);

ActionScript 3.0 :: Preloading - Get Xml Data To Load On Frame One But Leave The .as Files To Load In Frame 2?

Jun 4, 2009

I have a question about loading external data. When I had all my actionscript export to frame one, it would slow down the preloader and not show up until it was far into the progress bar animation. So I moved everything to frame 2. The problem with that is now my menus which are populated from an xml file are not there when the site starts to play. How can I get my xml data to load on frame one, but leave the .as fils to load in frame 2?

ActionScript 3.0 :: CS3 - Preloading .flv - Get It To Fully Load The Video Before Playing?

Oct 4, 2009

I'm trying to preload a movie so that it doesn't stutter when it plays. So i thought preload the whole flv and then let it automatically play. I followed Adobe's tutorial [URL] on 'Controlling web video with ActionScript 3 FLVPlayback programming' and added a progress bar all using components. But I just can't get it to work, the progress bar disappears when it loads and the movie starts playing before its preloaded. Here's the online version; [URL] and I've attached the .fla too.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Multiple File Preloading By Passing It An Array Of Files To Load?

Jul 15, 2006

I wrote this script a while ago and it's worked extremely well for me ever since. I use it in nearly every project I do. But the other day I was asked to do a project where I could only use Flash 7.

This is a class I made to easily handle multiple file preloading by passing it an array of files to load. It only has two useful methods. One gets you the current total progress (total of all the files 0-100%) and an onLoadComplete. The actual usage is in the top of the file. It works great under Flash 8, so go ahead and use it.

ActionScript 1/2 :: Create An "if" Statement That Waits For The Right Arrow Key To Be Pressed?

Jun 18, 2010

For a game I am making I want to create an "if" statement that waits for the right arrow key to be pressed and for the global variable "movement" to equal 0. I used the code below:

if (Key.isDown(Key.RIGHT) && (_global.movement = 0)) {

When both those statements are true, I wanted the object to move to the left at the variable "speed". the entire code I used is below:

if (Key.isDown(Key.RIGHT) && (_global.movement = 0)) {
_x -= speed;
}

When the game is played I know that the "movement" equals 0 through the debugger tool, and when I press the right arrow key, the object does not move.

Flash Load ALL Scenes Of A Movie Or Does It Load The First Scene And Then Load The Other Scenes?

Jun 2, 2010

I am working with a project that has many scenes. Each scene has a movie clip attached to it. The first scene is simple...just a couple of buttons and that is it. My worry is that when I add all of the videos that correspond with each button and publish the SWF will be a huge file. THE QUESTION: Does flash load ALL scenes of a movie or does it load the first scene and then load the other scenes when the user needs to view them?

My ultimate goal is to just have the first scene load and then when the user clicks on the buttons contained within that scene that only upon release does the corresponding scene load. Maybe I am doing this completely wrong and should look at doing it another way.

ActionScript 2.0 :: [F5] Load The Next Scene Won't Work

Jun 10, 2003

I setup a movie as 5 different scenes. The first scene is the loading animation that sends the user to scene 2 when it's loaded, and then scenes 2-5 can be switched between with 4 buttons in each scene. These for buttons are on the root timeline and they work fine switching between scenes. But, I have a different button inside a mc on the root timeline that I want coded to load the next scene, but it won't work. I tried nextScene();, gotoAndStop("the_scene_name",1);, _root.nextScene();, and other combinations, all to no avail. But, if I put that same code in a button on the root timeline, works perfect. What am I doing wrong? I'm sure it's simple, but I couldn't find a solution in Help or the manual. Also, is it better to setup something like this as different scenes, or as separate movies?
