Jun 1, 2010I cant load and external text file into my dynamic text box...when i trace the loaded var it can be found, but when it's loaded inside the text box, the value that appears is really strange.i tried to load the vars into the MC and on a level, the result is the same, it can be traced but does not appear correctly on the textbox..the code i used is here..i made a text box with about_us instance name, loaded the variables and tried to load my text inside it by setting the text property of the textbox but as u will see...

Sep 17, 2009I had some dynamic text with a scroll bar and it was working fine. Then I decided to use HTML formatting and bring it in through an external .txt file using the following code:

The text is loading fine except that my scrollbar has now disappeared and you can only see the first few lines of text.

on my answer timeline i have for the buttons (one frame per question):

ActionScript 2.0 :: Change Dynamic Text From External File?
Dec 30, 2010I have a content area with dynamic text (title and detail) that changes depending what button a user is rolling over, and i want this text to load from an external file. I have 26 buttons total, so i need 26 different titles and 26 different details to load.
I have looked around and the only solution with the loadvars technique involves creating 26 separate .txt files and loading them all in, then calling them as needed. This seems like a big waste of CPU cycles and time creating each file.
Is there an easier way to go about tackling this? Ideal would be having all the text in 1 file, and calling each identified title and detail as needed.

Apr 25, 2010I've had a Flash website up and running for about a year which includes an external text file linked to a dynamic text field.
Everything worked well until I recently added content to the external text file.
Suddenly, the file won't load in flash.
If I play around and cut a line here or there, it sometimes loads. Sometimes not. Sometimes it looks like there might be a character limit. Sometimes it looks like flash might be having a problem with certain characters.
So my questions are:
1.) Does Flash have a limit on the amount of characters that can be displayed in a dynamic field.
2.) If so, can this be changed with as3?

Mar 23, 2010I have combed the Web and I can't seem to find the answer. All I want to do is display some html-formatted text, located within an external XML file, in a dynamic text field in Flash CS3.
I don't have any code to supply because at this point the only thing I'm trying to display in the text field is "<b>This</b> is a <a href="http://www.google.com">test</a>." For this hypothetical example, I could call the text field myTextField. I just need to know how to format the AS3 code to get the XML to display inside myTextField.

Jan 11, 2011How can I get a consistent value from the top margin/padding of a TextField to the top of the actual text.According to the docs (link below), the text field has a 2px gutter on all sides. But there seems to be another gutter that seems to increase / decrease with the size of the text.Using times new roman for a default font size, I can get the baseline of some random text using what we know: I know that there is a 2px gutter all the way around the text field and we can get the ascent through textfield.getLineMetrics(0).ascent. If I draw a line at that position I'll get a line about 2 px below the actual text. Works fine.Now if I want to draw another line at the TOP of the text it's a guessing game. At 36pt text it's 8px from the top of the textfield. At 72pt text it's more like 12px from the top, and at 144pt text it's more like 20px from the top.URL...

It's working perfectly in Firefox and Explorer but it only works SOME of the time in Safari (on my mac).It's hit and miss. Sometimes it styles the text sometimes it doesn't.

I wanted to see if I could experiment with the dynamic text box by rotating it so that the text could be flush with the diagonal side of a triangle. When I rotated the dynamic text box, the text dissappeared! Also, no actions were applied directly to the dynamic text file itself.

May 28, 2007Structure: There is 1 main file that loads external SWF files depending on what is clicked on.One of the external SWF files loads its text from external text files. This works fine when viewing the SWF applet on its own. But when viewing as a whole site, the text doesnt appear. Very annoying.I made that particular SWF on my mums computer running Flash MX 2004The flash file itself uses the Scrollbar component from MX.Could someone tell me why the text doesnt load in this scenario? It runs fine on its own, just not as an external SWF.

Nov 2, 2011I have a dynamic textfield being populated with an xml files' content. I then have a css stylesheet loaded into format the text. This all works great, but what doesn't work is the ability to bold some of the words in that text. I have both the regular and bold versions of the font embedded into the swf, I can test out just a bold block of text and it works fine. The css is also working as it will change the size of the text that I tell it to. Everything is working, but for some reason I am not able to get the bolder version of the font to display in the same text box as the regular one. I have also tried to change fonts but had the same outcome.
