Working with JSON and some command strings I am building are getting lengthy.
I want to know if is possibile through regularexpression, count the numbers contained into a string and add a specified character near it.
For exemple, this is a string: Hello2all821abc13 This string contain 3 numbers: 2, 821 and 13 (note that the numbers contained into 821 and 13 are considered like an unique entity, not signle). I want to add near each of it the "-" symbol. Is it possible?
I need to check whether the string doesnt match any number of space characters, or tab.

I have a text field that has 2 lines for visible text. I then pass it a string to display but the string might be to long to display all of the string. My problem is that I want to count how many characters that are NOT visible in the text field. The text field has to stay the fixed size and cannot change
View 1 RepliesIn flex, I have mx:Text component. How can I find how many characters can fit into it without vertical scroll for a certain height & font etc.
View 1 RepliesIs there a way to restrict the number of characters in the Flex Rich Text Editor? I guess there should be, since it's possible in a textarea. So, if I could get hold of the textarea contained in the rich text editor, I would be able to do it
View 1 RepliesI am trying to limit then number of characters in a dynamic text box, but its just not working. I am loading the text from an external xml file and thought that this might be the problem, but to be honest it shouldnt be really... I have put this code inside the movie clip:
ActionScript Code:
this.title_mc.alpha = 0;
this.q_mc.alpha = 0;
this.a_mc.alpha = 0;
[Code].....
I basically need to store a string of characters from an input text box and have them displayed at the last frame of the quiz. I declared the variable holding the input text as _global.player in the first frame, and upon clicking the start button the code is:
on (release) { _global.player=player.text; gotoAndStop (2); }
These variables are not referenced again until the last frame of the quiz, which reads thus:
stop();playerdisplay.text=_global.player;score.text=_global.correct;'Endng Comments Generator'if (_global.correct<=3) { phrase="Try a little harder next time";}if (_global.correct>3 + _global.correct<7) { }comment.text=phrase;
Yes, I know the global.correct coments are not yet complete, but i dont think that should be causing any issue with the playerdisplay.text (the dynamic text box to display the player name). If anyone could give me a hand that would be great. Nothing appears in the dynamic text box when the final frame of the movie loads.
I think this can be really easy however i'm not reaching the answer of this question. i have text inputs .......and i want to restrict the input to only Numbers...mytextbox.restrict = "0-9"; now when i try entering the values it works fine.....but but.....i doesn't accept any special characters.and i want it to atleast accept '.' because i want to accept decimal values
View 1 Repliesfinding a number in a string of text. how can i do this?
example:
var1 = "string of text 35";
trace(magical number finder);
output: 35
I have an application that is trying to sort of scores. The problem is that when it tries to sort it errors as it is checking if one string is less than another string when it should be doing one number less than another number.
I have played with parseInt but I haven't managed to get it to work?
Code:
this.onEnterFrame = function() {
if (parseInt(yourtime_txt.text)<parseInt(pos1time_txt.text)) {
pos1time_txt.text = parseInt(yourtime_txt.text);

I've tried the following code to check if a dynamic text field has a number or string in it. My problem is that after adding the new if statement (first one) it's the only one that will execute so I don't even know if it's checking whether it's a number or not.
ActionScript Code:
doneBut.onRelease = function() {[code].....
I want to replace "bad characters" in a text string received from an XML document but the replaced text seems to be undefined inside the for loop.
ActionScript Code:
for ( var i:Number = 0; i < l; i++ )

I am simulating a multi-column combobox by introducing spaces between each column, such that all rows for the 3 columns should appear in a single line. The gap in this implementation is that due to the varying widths of characters, this spacing technique does not work. How to set the combobox characters to have the same width? The other approach is to calculate the width occupied by characters in each column and then set the start position of the next column. How to achieve this?

View 7 RepliesMy mx:Text's htmlText is the following:
mainText.htmlText = "<img src="breadmaker.png" width="339" height="275" vspace="0" hspace="0" />" + "Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy tex......(more here)"
However, the result looks like the following:ScreenshotAs you can tell, it cuts off the first few characters in the text after the image tag (Lorem Ipsum is sim), but it is only because the image is full width. If I change the img tag to width="200", it shows the text floating to the right.However, as you can tell with a full width image (because the Text component's width is 339), it seems the text is still floating to the right, but it's hidden off to the right side of the image.
My checkboxes aren't showing any more than 16 characters and I don't know how to make them wider because I'm attaching them in a loop like this:

Is there a way to set the width of a text field equal to the width of the text in it?
View 1 Replieshow to limit the number of characters I get on a simple math function. The line of code I am working with is below. it sends the results entered in an input text box to a dynamic text box. How can I make it so no more than 4 characters show in the dynamic text box results?
Code:
result5 = ml * 1.666;
how to write a function that will count how many characters you can enter to text field i.e: we have a text field with max char = 60, and when you type text we see that number going down
View 1 RepliesHow can I get the last 4 characters of a string? (The given string could be any length)

View 4 RepliesInside my code i have some variables declared as Numbers, and i get some others from an external source; these variables can either be Numbers or String representation of Numbers. Now, i have to implement some equality controls on these variables, and since i don't know in that moment which type are them of, i'm converting all of them to Numbers (i don't need and neither want to compare strings) via the Number() function which accepts either Numbers or Strings as an input. These controls can compare 2 single variables or a variable and a sum (or subtraction) of other variables, for example:

I want to change the code a little bit by creating an Input Text. A random number will be typed in that text instead of having a fixed, pre-set number.

This works fine but when I upload to my clients server the url might be somewhat different. Is there a way to split off the last 14 characters and see if they = slideShow2.swf or is there a command if the string contains "slideShow2.swf".
What i'm trying to do is to first of all remove all special characters from a hard coded tweet. What I want to do after is to convert each letter into a specific tone, using MML (Music Macro Language).When i play the tweet via the sound library sion after my attempted replacing i only get five tones through. What am I doing wrong? I'm guessing it's simple, but I don't know anything.I'm coding Actionscript 3 in FDT, which is all very new to me, as is regexp.
public function translateTweet() {
var myPattern:RegExp = /[~%&\;:"',<>?#]+/g;
var tweet : String = "@cupofjoakim AN EXAMPLE string! :D #hi11expo";[code].......
I am trying to count the characters in a string.
ActionScript Code:
D4_frame_txt.text=xmlList[j].toString();
D4_frame_txt.maxChars=400;
[Code].....
I get no compiler error message but the count doesnt seem to work. Never overflow.
