ActionScript 2.0 :: Text Width Not Updating With New Content

I've got these dynamic text fields that have their autosize and multiline set to true. I assign a width when I create the textfields, but that doesn't seem to have an effect. Using an interval, i cycle through an array that provides strings to populate the text fields.
The textfields seem to take the width of the first strings that populate them, and then stay that size, regardless of the amount of text in each new string.[code]...

Ive created a shape that i want to resize as it enters different frames. The shape is meant to act like a window behind info in a webpage. Ive managed to get it to tween OK at the moment, but i cant get it to change for each frame it enters. For example, i can get it to grow from 0 - 100% in the first frame, and if i move to a different frame it might need to be bigger, then in a different frame a new size again. Ive tried creating a variable currentWidth which will allow me to detect what size it is and then change accordingly, but it seems to be having trouble updating.

Using AMFPHP to call in data from php from mysql. i have a content management system to change the database content to meet the clients needs. content is easily changed in database but is not updated on swf file. its like its cache the swf on the computer or something. am i missing something. why wont the swf update its self.

I have BitmapData (in short 'bmp') which I use to compare pixels between two, same pictures. When I find my thing, then I load next picture into BitmapData and compare again but here is my problem. Loading picture into bmp only works when I click button which lead to function like that:

doesn't load image. Only thing that works is to use Spark Image component (with already specified source to file) and get picture from it.

I set up empty movie clip containers to hold my external .swf files when i load them in. I have 9 different external files that all load correctly. My issue is that when people view my website and cache the files after dynamically loading them, my changes that i make and upload dont take effect because their computers just pull the cached files from the last time they viewed it. This is critical for my site to work because of the amount of text updating and news that i do on it.

On the website will be a downloadable file with a password.Since the beginning of the promotion there will be single letters added each hour. Probably only one visible at the time.Since this action takes place during weekend and i don't want to spend it in front of a computer updating the letters manually each hour i was wondering if there is a script which will do it for me.There is a restriction though - the whole password cannot be included in the swf file (obvious security reasons).

I am creating a nav in flex that pulls in buttons dynamically from xml. THe problem i am having is setting the button width to the text width. currently the buttons are all the same width and if the text is larger then it just cuts off. I have an HBox with a fixed Width and Height and a Border. In that HBox I have a viewStack with a few different views.When the viewStack changes views, I want the HBox container to keep resizing to its content. Currently it stays at the fixed width.Is there any way to do that with an HBox setting?

When creating a new TextField dynamically, is there a property that automatically adjusts the width to the content or is it always necessary to have txt_field.width = ...?

I have a custom alert box I wrote. It has an optional second button. I use the alert box in various ways which may or may not need the second button.Previously I was creating and adding the button dynamically, but because flash is so slow I have to preload the alert with two buttons. So there are always two buttons in this alert view. So if I have an alert with both an action button and a cancel button, then I have an alert with just a cancel button I want to hide the action button. However if I set the action button to hidden it still throws off the alginment of the cancel button in my HGroup because it's still taking up space even though it's not there. If I set the width of the action button to 0 then I am using a fixed with and whenever I need to use it again I will have to manually calculate the width of the button!! Is there a way to set the width to 0 then set it like it never had a width at all?

I want that the DataGridColumn or AdvancedDataGridColumn would automatically resize it's width so as to fit the content within. I'm new to flex. I want to implement something like HTML tables. The Data Rendered is simple Text. Some Rows have little longer Text, in that case I would like to automatically extend the width of DataGridColumn.

In a card game I use a TextField in the middle to display the playing table number, but also to detect if a playing card has been played - using myTextField.hitTestObject(myCard) - which means the TextField's position and dimensions may not change:
My current AS3 code is:

format.color = 0xFFFFFF;
format.size = 30;

However the TextField's content (the String "#2029" in the above screenshot) is not in the center of it.
I can not set _middle.autoSize = TextFieldAutoSize.CENTER because this changes the width of the border (and breaks hitTestObject()).
Is there another way to align the text in the middle?

I've implemented a video player to integrate into my Drupal website.
I would like to assign different width and height size to my swf according to the videos sizes.
How can I do it ? Should i pass back values from Flash app with an External Call ?
Can I retrieve the height and width of the video before to pass it to flash app, so I can set the html wrapper parameters in advance ?

So there are these two heads on one slide (dragRec), each has a normal state, roll over, and drag. Endpoint prints to a textbox on drag that displays a relative position, and threshold is set to show the percentage between the left end of the slider and Endpoint. I've made a website in Flash, it's the 1st time I've made a site with dynamic loading text.The text loads, that is fine, however, when I update the .txt file, the webpage does not update until I delete my internet history. This obviously no use as I can't expect returning visitors to delete their cache every time they visit.

The code checks out and is working great but I just added a dumbed down version for referenceWhat is happening is:I am creatingar less:mcLessons = new mcLessons();addChild(less);mcLessons is a Movieclip I created and is located in my library with as3 linkage to a script (the one below).In the Library the textfield reads "lesson 1" and is supposed to change to "Basic Neccesaties(Part 1)" once loadedWhen it is loaded the text does not change. When I clip on a textfeild that has an eventListener, all the text is added.I trace the text field (before any textfield is clicked) and it reads "BasicNeccesaties(Part 1)" but on stage is still "lesson 1".

I have some nested movie clips, with a dynamic text object at the end of the chain - if I don't update the the text in the dynamic text field, then it displays fine, however if I set the text at anytime through actionscript, the text disappears. I have tried all sorts of embedding/not embedding font - combinations, but nothing works.Here is a code snippet:

I have a couple of text fields in my Flash movie that are constantly updated with text from an xml document. The xml document is updated through an interface on a seperate swf. It's based on a flash guestbook I found and have hacked apart, and everything works fine in theory... My main worry is that over the course of a day it loaded in the text 170,000 times: 30 times a second which is a little excessive and is playing havoc with my web stats. I've cut this down to once every 10 seconds but I'm still thinking I should use a better method, would it be possible to test for changes before I load in new text, or am I going about this entirely the wrong way?

I've created a flash banner which loads 3 images. Each image is loaded using a Loader object. Each Loader object has an event listener which points to the same function. In this function I compute the loaded/total bytes, then I update a dynamic TextField.
The problem is that the TextField doesn't change its text only when all the images are loaded, which means at 100%. I used a trace for percent and it works fine. From what I've read until now, it seems that this can be caused by a lock-up of the UI?

I have a dynamic text box that follow the mouse, giving information on rollover.
