Is it possible to make text content for a site in Flash be changed/updated by
someone without having to take the route of Flash? Like I have a text file in notepad, or Word and the text will automatically appear in the swf file?
I've got these dynamic text fields that have their autosize and multiline set to true. I assign a width when I create the textfields, but that doesn't seem to have an effect. Using an interval, i cycle through an array that provides strings to populate the text fields.
The textfields seem to take the width of the first strings that populate them, and then stay that size, regardless of the amount of text in each new string.[code]...
How do I make a photo gallery that up dates by itself its contents getting it from a folder and putting then in order? The pictures when clicked should load a swf with information about the tittle.

It uses Air's own ApplicationUpdater framework (the one that doesn't require a UI) - all goes well until the package gets downloaded and needs to be installed - at that point, the Air Installer prompts for SUDO password and won't proceed without some user interaction.

View 1 RepliesI have BitmapData (in short 'bmp') which I use to compare pixels between two, same pictures. When I find my thing, then I load next picture into BitmapData and compare again but here is my problem. Loading picture into bmp only works when I click button which lead to function like that:

doesn't load image. Only thing that works is to use Spark Image component (with already specified source to file) and get picture from it.
I set up empty movie clip containers to hold my external .swf files when i load them in. I have 9 different external files that all load correctly. My issue is that when people view my website and cache the files after dynamically loading them, my changes that i make and upload dont take effect because their computers just pull the cached files from the last time they viewed it. This is critical for my site to work because of the amount of text updating and news that i do on it.

I have a list of items dynamically loaded from an XML file into my flash movie.Each item is positioned vertically with some buffer space between it and the preceding item.However, if the amount of items exceeds the flash objects height,then the excess items are invisible (because you cant scroll through them!).So then is it possible to make some form of call (undoubtedly an externalinterface call to a javascript function) that will resize the height of the flash object to fit all of this dynamically loaded content so that the browser's scrollbar is triggered allowing the user to scroll through?Or is it more practical to simply carve up my own scrollbar to fit the entire flash movie?
View 2 RepliesI have a countdown clock that needs to be automatically updated once it reaches 00:00:00:00 (dynamic textfields: days, hours, minutes, seconds).
The days, hours, mins, secs are pulling from an XML file.
Trouble I'm having is figuring out the best way to pull one XML node at a time and then updating the information once it reaches zero.
Should I be using the Timer class to update these textfields or can I cycle through each node at a time.
Basically, I'm just sort of lost in how this would normally be accomplished and need a nudge.
autoscroll functionality in Flex2's DataGrid while dragging an element row in it. Is there such a functionality or not?
I mean, I have a DataGrid which contains a collection of rows. The collection is longer that the DataGrid could fit, hence there is a vertical scrollbar that allows to get to the rest of rows. I have enabled the functionality of moving-by-draging to be able to change the order of rows in the DataGrid (see the simple code below).
Now, let's say I want to move the first (topmost) row to the last (bottom) position of the collection. When the top row is displayed, the bottom one is not visible (not without moving the scrollbar). So when I drag the top row, I cannot drop it beyond the few currently visible rows. Surely I could drag a bit and then scroll to bottom and then drag a bit more, but that's not the point. The point is - is there a functionality of autoscroll implemented in Flex2 DataGrid, where the collection would scroll itself automatically to allow one to drag beyond the few visible rows?
In Adobe's official PDF document "Flex2 Developer's Guide", section "Using drag-and-drop with list-based controls" I've found this sentence:

I am working on a flex app that uses XML templates to dynamically create DisplayObjects. These templates define different layouts that can be used for each page of content in the app (ie , 2 columns, 3 columns etc etc). The administrator can select from one of these and populate each area with their content.
The templates add one of 3 types of DisplayObject - HBox, VBox or a third component - LibraryContentContainer (an mxml component that is defined as part of the app) - which is effectively a canvas element with a TextArea inside. The problem that I am getting is that I need each of these areas to automatically resize to fit the length of the content but don't seem to be able to find an effective way to do so.
In the LibraryContentContainer, when the value of the TextArea is set, I am calling .validateNow() on the LibraryContentContainer. I then set the height property on both the TextArea and LibraryContentContainer to match the textHeight property of the TextArea. In the following example, this is the LibraryContentContainer, viewer is the TextArea and the value property of the TextArea is bound to this.__Value. v is the variable containing the content for the textarea

Endpoint prints to a textbox on drag that displays a relative position, and threshold is set to show the percentage between the left end of the slider and Endpoint. I have some nested movie clips, with a dynamic text object at the end of the chain - if I don't update the the text in the dynamic text field, then it displays fine, however if I set the text at anytime through actionscript, the text disappears. I have tried all sorts of embedding/not embedding font - combinations, but nothing works.Here is a code snippet:

I have a couple of text fields in my Flash movie that are constantly updated with text from an xml document. The xml document is updated through an interface on a seperate swf. It's based on a flash guestbook I found and have hacked apart, and everything works fine in theory... My main worry is that over the course of a day it loaded in the text 170,000 times: 30 times a second which is a little excessive and is playing havoc with my web stats. I've cut this down to once every 10 seconds but I'm still thinking I should use a better method, would it be possible to test for changes before I load in new text, or am I going about this entirely the wrong way?

I've created a flash banner which loads 3 images. Each image is loaded using a Loader object. Each Loader object has an event listener which points to the same function. In this function I compute the loaded/total bytes, then I update a dynamic TextField.
The problem is that the TextField doesn't change its text only when all the images are loaded, which means at 100%. I used a trace for percent and it works fine. From what I've read until now, it seems that this can be caused by a lock-up of the UI?

Simple enough. However, when I add a frame to my main timeline and cut/past my mc on it, the dynamic text field doesn't update. Here is my simple .fla file showing what I'm trying to do.
View 3 RepliesI created a text area on my stage using the text tool, then converted it to a MovieClip symbol. I called it ScoreLabel and I clicked "Export for ActionScript". I named the instance of the text area scoreLabel. However, when I do this in my code:
scoreLabel.text = this.score;
it doesn't change. That line is in my Main.as file, which is the document class. How can I change the text shown in this text area using ActionScript? Maybe I need to import a library?
on my onEnterFrame function, I just want to keep updating a Dynamic Text Box location. It's giving me more trouble than I anticipated, and the solution is probably very easy. I have spent 30 minutes (give or take) on trying to figure it out, but to no avail. This is what I have at onEnterFrame:
