I'm using AS3 to place movieclips onto Flash's stage...
The code I have looks something like this:

Currently when the player moves their cursor over the movie clips that AS3 is placing on the stage, they disappear. However the movie clip is not actually removed from the stage, it simply plays to a blank frame in its timeline to give this illusion. How do I tell Flash to remove the movie clip from the stage rather than just give the illusion that it is gone?

So, can I access layers on this MainTimeline to get all Movie Clips on this layer ? So I can do a simple operation "A_1_2.buttonMode = true;" to all my MC's (in an array for example) without writing every line (lot of MC's on layer and lot of lines).
2 movie clips MC1 and MC2 . MC2 is placed inside MC1. both the movie clips are having rollover effect. the issue is roll over effect is experienced only for the outer movie clip MC1 but no effect when hover through MC2.

The problem is that the buttons inside the top layered movie clip work, but the others in the movie clips below don't.

I have some (Eg. 10) Movie Clips on bottom of the Stage (aligned horizontally) with different sizes (different width & height). I want them to align vertically on middle of the stage with same gap (irrespective of their sizes) in between 2 Movie Clips. Is it possible using AS3 code?

The first snag I hit was that I couldn't create references to movie clips using the old [] Associative array referencing method. Maybe I still can with AS3, but I couldn't get it to work...
So I found another technique using getChildByName that returns a reference to a movie clips and allows me to store that reference in a variable.
However, the movie clip I'm trying to affect with an event listener resides inside of another movie clips, so to build the address (aka, root.mc1.m2.mc3) to the mc I want to get to is proving to be difficult. (I'm very new to AS3...)

The point of this code is to be able to search through previously duplicated movie clips to find the one that I am trying to access.... it doesn't seem to be working even though I have a similar routine that does seem to work. Anyone know of a better way to access/traverse the available movie clips to find the one I want?
Suppose I've got 2 movie clips on the stage. box_mc and triangle_mc. I want to set up a way so that whenever I trigger the event, such as pressing a key (like

if I push the Space key again, it would start from the top (1) and repeat the sequence. The sequence would otherwise stop at 4. Previously I've been using counters inside an onEnterFrame such as counter = counter +1; if counter > n, counter = n; etc. This seems tedious and I'm hoping there's a better way to do this. I do not understand watch and timer functions of actionscript (they never seem to work for whatever project I'm occupied with).
I have used Flash on and off over the years but I've decided to hunker down and learn it in earnest. We have cs4 at work and I am having this problem.I checked out the differences between a graphic symbol and a movie clip, and it seems that the movie clip has some distinct advantages. But the main disadvantage is not being able to see what happens on the stage as it plays. How can I get around this limitation? Why does it even exist in the first place? I understand that scripting can complicate how it plays, but for example if I am making a straightforward animation, but parts of it depend on other parts that are in separate symbols, how can I see what is going on at a specific frame on the stage overall?
View 3 RepliesIf I create a 2000 frame Movie Clip and then drag it onto the stage of my main scene... shouldn't it work/play through it's entirety from within one frame of the main scene timeline? IOW I'm having to make the layer on the scene stage that i drag the movie clip onto 2000 frames long in order to see the nested 2000 frame movie clip play.Seems like in the past I could get Movie Clips to play and loop and what not from the main scene/stage without doing this.
View 12 RepliesI have a folder full of SWF files. Each SWF is its own animation. I have several people submitting their animations for this project. I would like to embed all these SWF's into my project and use .play() .stop() and other movieclip related commands on them as a whole. By this I mean, the artist sends me the SWF, my AS3 script embeds it, then I can access it with say animation_1.stop(); without the artist ever having to enter a instance name, or export for ActionScript name.
I plan to create a shell script which will take all the swf's in a folder and create a AS3 file with all the embed statements. The instance name that will be given to each one by the shell script will be the file name. Is this possible to embed a SWF and access it without giving any movie clips instance names or exporting for Actionscript? UPDATE: @annonymously answer below helped a lot. Firstly, I want to be able to push the space bar on my keyboard during a swf, and for a movie clip to appear on the stage. This is what I have so far:

Im having trouble centering my movie clips on the stage.

I have a custom class I am working on, one of the methods is:[code]Inside that function a dynamic TextField is created called txtLoaded, it is declared with [code]mcProg is added to the stage, I see the txtLoaded txt field drawn as well and I can trace properties of mcProg from elsewhere in the class but I cannot access mcProg.txtLoaded from anywhere else in the class.I imagine this must be a scoping issue, with txtLoaded only existing inside the createProgress method, but is there any way for me to be able to access txtLoaded from elsewhere in the class?
