View 1 RepliesI'm querying an XML web service and am parsing 3 nodes per the code below. I want to send the resulting value to a label component. When I place the Label component on stage, and name it lowtemp_label, remove the default text value of Label and play the SWF, nothing shows up. How do I ensure that the lowtemp_label gets the returned low temp value?

In a nutshell, I'm trying to create a dynamic text box in which text show up for one XML node but not for another, so I have some XML nodes that have info in them and others that don't. This seems like it would be a realatively easy thing to do, but I've been working on figuring out how to do so for days with no avail. I'm working on a template for my portfolio gallery at: [URL] I've linked pdfs to just some of the images in my modified xml slideshow from the tutorial using the following code from this forum:

I have an AdvancedDataGrid tree with a ArrayCollection as its dataprovider. Now, for instance, i drag a leaf from one node to another node. To catch the event I'm adding a Listener to dragComplete.
[Code]...
My Problem: I want to know the new node where the leaf was dropped. Actually i would have expected that in the event there is a property like dropParent. This is not the case.
I have a tree im my mxml that uses a XMLListCollection as dataProvider. Itīs XML is like:
<list>
<conta nome="Plano de Contas" id="1">
<conta nome="Creditos" id="2" />
<conta nome="Vendas" id="4" />
[code]....
How can I make the node for, say, id==4 visible AND selected?
i have a question whether we can create a new xml node in as3 node containing dynamic value inside.....
as like if i want to get like..var newNode:XML = <IMAGE FULL="fullimages/3.jpg"THUMB="thumbnails/3.jpg"/>
where the images are dynamic values...
I thought this was going to be easy! I would like to search an XML file for a particular data set i.e. set of nodes depending on a passed variable. However, storing a subset of my XML file via Code:var gallery = this.firstChild; and then searching 'gallery' as you would an array-using a for()-doesn't work since this.firstChild isn't returning an array
Code:
<gallery>
<collection title="Christmas 2004">

I've got some xml:
var xmlData:XML =
<1stNode>
<buttonID>first child node value</buttonID>
[Code]....
Then I want to read specific node value based on a value passed to a function. .
var buttonID = new Button;
var imageID = new Image;
var labelID = new Label;
[Code]....
I'm don't know how to get the value when node name is dynamically changed.
just trying to get straight how this works. Say I create some XML like so:
ActionScript Code:
var sample:XML = <sample>
<items>

I have a text properly read in from xml and displaying ok. But I'm trying to implement a link on one word in the text and that doesn't work. the xml node is [code] and should display;visit the website clicktext but displays;url... The code generating the html text field seems to work ok (it creates "arial font"), that specifc part goes;[code]
View 8 RepliesI am trying to create a text node within a child node:
user_xml.firstChild.appendChild( user_xml.createTextNode("<![CDATA[------]]>") );
But when I trace this I get:
user_xml = <UserDetails><![CDATA[------]]></UserDetails>
Which is not what I need. What I need returning is:
user_xml = <UserDetails><![CDATA[------]]></UserDetails>
When I try to get some text from a node into a textfield by using .nodeValue I get 'null'. When I use nodeType on that node the result is "1". I understand that a textnode should result in value "3". But how come this isn't the case here?
My xml looks like:

My prblem is I have a node that doesnt always have something in it. It is used for url's so i put an if statement but it still puts a message even if its blank. here are my codes to explain better:

I am stuck on how to make these changes to an xml using AS3. My xml structure is as follows
Code:

If I have the following XML, does anybody know of a way in which to search the shopType node to see if it contains the required text?
Code:

I have a RSS feed parsed into one text box and am using imported CSS to format the text in one Textfield that was created with as3.Problem is my roll over and click handler functions for making each text variable a link to the XML URL link will not work unless I point the function at the entire text field. I just want the individual text variables made from the RSS Title nodes, to be set to react to my handleFHTClicked, rollOutHandler and ollOverHandler functions. The movie runs Ok parsing the nodes and picking up the CSS, but I get this error in the output window when it reaches the aformentioned functions..
TypeError: Error #1006: value is not a function.

I have a Label component in my library list, and have placed an instance of it on stage named lowtemp_label. I've written the following AS3 script in my Main.as file that grabs 3 nodes from an XML web service. I want to send each of the 3 values to 3 separate label components. However, when I run the SWF, my label components do not display the data. How can I remedy this?

Kirupa's tutprial "Using XML in Flash CS3/AS3" when filtering the node values, how can I match a text string say "Stephen" with "Stephen E. Ambrose"
var authorList:XMLList = bookInput.Book.(author == "Stephen E. Ambrose");
Using the above code it only searches the node which author value is "Stephen E. Ambrose" but I want to search only "Stephen" and want to get this node returned.
I read Senocular's tutorial on XML and found it really useful. But I still have a problem: When I try to get some text from a node into a textfield by using .nodeValue I get 'null'. When I use nodeType on that node the result is "1". I understand that a textnode should result in value "3". But how come this isn't the case here? My xml looks like:

I have made it this far with much help and all was working well until the xml changed. Sometimes the c_Result node does not exist and my c_points text box returns 'undefined'. I have tried if(c_points != undefined){ etc which works to a degree but I don't know how to make the text box blank if the node doesn't exist and load the c_Result node if it does.
import mx.styles.CSSStyleDeclaration;
_global.styles.TextArea = new CSSStyleDeclaration();
_global.styles.TextArea.setStyle("backgroundColor" , "transparent");[code].......
i have an image gallery, slightly modified from kirupa's xml image gallery, and for some reason the desc_txt text field isnt filling with the <piece> node from the xml file. everything else works. the text field is set to dynamic text and the instance name is correct (desc_txt). here is the actionscript,

I'm trying in vain to store and retrieve HTML formatted text in a XML node.I know it has to be held in CDATA brackets, otherwise the XML is invalid, but... this means that Flash doesn't parse the data as HTML, rather it just displays it as the raw text.
View 4 RepliesIt's been a about seven years since I have done any work with Flash but now my employer is asking me to create a custom online magazine tool (we're publishers). I've been immersed in PHP and AJAX and building Mac apps with XCode so I've got a bit of a relearning curve to go through.
Anyway, I'm pulling in some XML into a Flash file and want to display some of the various node values in a dynamic text box. That was easy enough, AS3 makes it a charm compared to the dark old days. The problem I am running into is displaying the values - its kind of a runsheet for a magazine - num of pages, ads, features, etc. etc. and I want to display that in one text box in a list type format. So I have something like this:
[Code]....
I have this type of XML -
<leadareas>
<pho>
<phoName>NWPHO</phoName>
<csName>nw_btn</csName>
[code]...
I would like to write a function where for example phoTit1 is returned where csname = ne_btn, but dont know if this is possible?
All I want is to display a random node from an xml file in Flash. I can display one node fine, but if try to display 2 or more, Flash sticks the XML tags back on the items - change the number following questions in the urlLoader_complete function to see what I mean.
Here's my AS3:
var questions:XML;
var urlRequest:URLRequest = new URLRequest("breakfast.xml");
var urlLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
urlLoader.dataFormat = URLLoaderDataFormat.TEXT;
[Code] .....
I use this code in as3 in order to find node with specific id value but it is working for 2 depth
elementsToDraw = elementsList.*.(@id=="hello");
For example at this xml node can be found
<nodes>
<node id="d">
<node id="hello">
[Code]....
What should I write for searching in any depth element with id="hello"?
I would like to be able to put a hyperlink with anchor tags in an XML node so all the characters in the node are passed to a dynamic text box in Flash where HTML formatting is preserved.
something like this:
<node><a href="<A href="http://www.something.com">click here</a>">www.something.com">click here</a></node>
How do I go about this? - I'm afraid an <a> and </a> tag will be treated like a new child called "a" within the current node.
I have this actionscript so far:
var xmlLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
var xmlData:XML = new XML();
xmlLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, LoadXML);
[Code]...
This loads the xml, assigns it to bookInput and traces it, but when I try and trace bookInput.project, or bookInput.button, or anything besides bookInput, no data is returned,
XML;
<button label="test1">
<project path="http://www.google.com">
</project>
[Code]....
checking an XML file for a specific node.
Example:
<vid
flv="videoName"
thumb="thumbnail.jpg"
title="Video Title"
[code]....
The first vid node contains a path to a logo graphic, I then need to check in my ActionScript if there is a logo there or not, and to do something if there is(display the logo) I can trace out the logo path so I thought I could run a simple if/else to check if there is anything in that node and if so to do something:
private function thumbOver(e:MouseEvent = null):void
{
trace("
");
[code]....
Now I've tried everything, but it will always trace out "Does have a logo" no matter what I do. I tried:
if (tabData[tabID].video[e.target.id].@logo == "")
if (tabData[tabID].video[e.target.id].@logo == null)
However I get the same results?
How do I get the root node of an XML object in Actionscript?
One would think that I could say this:
var Node:XMLNode = XMLVar as XMLNode;
But although XMLVar is of type XML, Node will = null.
