ActionScript 2.0 :: Control A Movie Clip Symbol Within A Button?
Aug 10, 2002
I am trying to control a movie clip symbol within a button. The movie clip instance is named within the button and starts on the "Over" section. I want to control it from the button instance - ie. using roll over, roll off etc. Using dot notation I tried :
PHP Code:
on (rollOver) {
tellTarget ("_root.buttonname.movielcipname") {
gotoAndStop (2);
}
}
When your button has 3 different states like rollover, rollout and selected and these are images. Is it best to make it a movieClip or a button symbol?
want to make a time line (timeline is my graphic not the timeline in cs4, like historical timeline WWI, WWII, ETC) with clickable dates (D-DAY, Pearl HARBOR), when you click on a date it will fade in a semi-transparent box that has text (still seeing the original stage in the background behind the semi-transparent text box), when you are done reading the text box you can hit GO BACK to go to the historical timeline.I only have been using flash for about 3 months so bare with me.
I understand button symbol, movie clip symbol, etc. I can make it so that when you are OVER the date it plays an animation of the text box fading in but is kind of bad because if you move the mouse off the date it goes away, which is why I want to make it clickable.Basically I thinkI am using CS4 by the way.In short, make a button that when hit plays a movie clip animation of the textbox fading in front of the historical timeline, I believe I can easily do the go back by using the gotoAndPlay(); feature on the go back button to go to the beginning of the scene.Sorry about the long text, I am pretty sure the answer is easy.
I added a button symbol to a movie clip in a Flash 8 project, and the button works. OnPress it redirects to a web site.However, the animation in the movie clip becomes diabled. I get the same effect regardless of where the button is placed, e.g. scene1 timeline, movie clip, etc.
I'm trying to get an invisible button to control the timeline of a movie clip. On rollOver, I want my movie, clipA, to move foward 1 frame for every fps that the user is over the button, starting with frame 40, until clipA reaches frame 50. Then on the rollOut I want clipA to move backward 1 frame for every fps that the user is off the button until it goes back to frame 40.
I was trying to use _currentframe+=1 & _currentframe-=1, but i got no response.
I have a Movie Clip which has a button and animated image on 2 layers, there is also some action scipt to control how the layers work.The Movie clip sits in my main windows and what I need to do is make the movie clip action open a swf external file in the movie clip holder I have made, I have acomplished the orignal external file to load, but now need to add diffrent files to the Movie Clip buttons.here is the base code for loading the original external file\ Code \loadMovie("news.swf","movieholder");
I animated eyes blinking inside of a movie clip symbol and placed the symbol on a face outside of the symbol.The eyes are stuck on the first frame. I am using CS5. What do I do?
I am looking to control a movie clip with a backwards and forwards button. I need the clip to stop at every 5 second increment both backwards and forwards. my movie clip is 25 seconds long.
I have found script for playing a movie in reverse and have tried to change this so it will stop in the above points instead of playing to the beginning or end, but my knowledge in as3 is very limited.
Do i need to put some script that plays with percentage?
I have a button action not working to control another movie clip timeline. The movie clip timeline I want to control has an instance name but for some reason it's not playing. The button is on a different movie clip timeline. Both movie clips are on Scene 1. I think there is something wrong with my target path?
I am using CS3 with Actionscript 2.0I am trying to get a play / pause button to control a movie clip.I have placed the MC on one layer and the button on another layer.The button works great.All I need is the AS to control the timeline of the movie clip.
I'm loading an external image into an empty actionscript movie clip (holder1) using MovieClipLoader(); on frame one of my movie and is invisible. Then when the movie plays, there is an empty movie clip symbol (image1_mc) that is placed manually on the stage within another movie clip symbol (flash_mc), and is also on a bottom layer of a mask layer which is animated. Is it possible to place "holder1" inside of "image1_mc" so that I can treat it as if it were an embedded image? In other words, have the image in "holder1" inside of the manually placed movie clip symbol "image1_mc" so that I can use it like a regular symbol on the stage?
I am importing a movie clip as a symbol from a SWF using Embed to a AS3 program and, after attaching the movie clip to the stage, the movie clip keeps repeating. Before you ask I have indeed creating a script layer and put a "stop()" on the last frame. In fact the swf containing the symbol works perfectly fine when executed on its own or in Flashdevelop (my choosen IDE). Its only when imported does the clip keep repeating.Here is the code:
I am making a web site in flash in which I have multiple movie clips.I have mc_buttonMenu on the main timeline.Inside of mc_buttonMenu, I have 3 buttons that are all button symbols.From the main timeline, I have a movie clip called mc_allPages.In this movie clip, I have a few layers.I have the content layer.This layer controls how my pages display.I have another layer called labels.I labeled frames 1 to 10 as 'home' and layers 11 to 20 as 'contactUs'.I have another layer in mc_allPages called actions.I put a stop(); on frame 10 and frame 20 on this layer.I want to be able to control the movie clip mc_allPages from within the movie clip mc_buttonMenu.I put some action script in various places, but it never worked.I tried this action script:
I tried placing that code on the main timeline, inside mc_allPages, inside mc_buttonMenu and split up into both buttons appropriately for btn_home and btn_contactUs.Sometimes the animation would stop on frame 10 and sometimes it would just play through to frame 20 and ignore the stop(); I put on frame 10 inside the mc_allPages movie clip.However, whenever I pressed the button ( btn_contactUs ), it never went to the frame labeled "contactUs" in the allPages movie clip.
I have created a series of Symbol MovieClips which I load through ActionScript on the first frame of the main timeline so that they play sequentially. I dynamically create each MovieClip, add it to the Stage, and setup an enter frame listener.On the last frame I stop and remove the clip, and repeat the process with the next clip.These animations play sequentially as intended. However each clip has an audio sequence on its timeline.These play simultaneously at the start of the main timeline.I've tried each of the Sound Sync options on the first frames within the Symbol clips.With the Stop setting the audio doesn't play, but Start, Event, and Stream all cause the audio to play at the beginning of the main timeline which seems to contradict the documentation I've looked at.
Is there a straight-forward way to sync the audio to the Symbol clips, or does the audio need to placed on the main timeline?I'd rather not do this as it is much easier to sync up the audio for each symbol clip with the animation when I can work with the smaller audio snippets and not have to test the whole movie.
Basically what I have is a 31 frame, frame-by-frame animation that plays(no stop() command at all currently) in a continuous loop on one "page" of a flash presentation. What I need to be able to do is set it up in actionscript 2.0 so that when a viewer has his mouse over the movie symbol and then clicks and drags to the right, the movie plays forward, click and drag to the left and it plays in reverse, and on release stops on the frame it is currently on.
I need it set up so that if someone is dragging it to the right and reverses direction, the frames are played in reverse from that point (frame) and vice versa and releasing the mouse button stops the movie on that frame: e.g. if the viewer is dragging right up to frame 20 then starts dragging to the left the animation will play backwards from frame 20 to frame 1 so long as the mouse button is held down) I can't use playback buttons, I have to set this up this way for a specific reason for a work project. I'm not even sure if I explained it correctly If I can set this up on the frame the symbol is nested in, fine. If it has to be done within the symbols' animation, fine. Doesn't matter really, the end result is what counts.
I am trying to place buttons inside a movie clip to control the timeline of the same movie clip. This does not seam to work like buttons on the main timeline. When I play the movie the cursor does not turn into a hand and the rolloever affects only sort of work. I have read about controling the movie clip with buttons on the main timeline, but I need one of the buttons to change halfway through the movieclip. I want to be able to jump to interior shots while in the exterior section and vice versa. It would seem that button would work the same way inside a movie clip as they do on the main timeline, but that does not appear to be the case. I am using CS3. Action scrip 2.0 is selected, but I could change it to 3.0 if it would make a difference.
My group is trying to create pong. We got the ball moving and bouncing off the walls and all that, but we are trying to get the paddles to move up and down. We've run into a hundred problems, and i've looked at every pong tutorial, but I notice that I can't put actionscript in my movieclip like the tutorial people can.How do I enable actionscript in a movie clip symbol?
In AS3 you can add script to a movie clip symbol. But in AS3 you cannot, correct?
So what do you do in AS3? What is the "correct" way of coding, lets say, characters or objects in a game? Or more specifically, where is the correct place to put the code for each character or item?
When I try to import several images (from a folder on disk), I cant seem to make a movie clip of them. What do I have to do to import a bunch of images and then test the movie and see each image appearing after one another?
I made a very nice movie clip that now resides in the library of my current working fla. I have an external class controlling it and all is fine.
However, I want to use this movie clip in another fla file as well. The method i have used now is to have both projects open, then manually copy the movie clip from one to the other.
Like exporting a movie clip to an "external file-database of movie clips" for importing it in other projects?
I've created a movie clip symbol with it's own animation on its timeline. I've placed this symbol onto the first frame of the main timeline but when I test it, it doesn't play. There's no stop actions or anything on either timelines so I'm not sure why this is happening. I thought that the animation in a movie clip symbol will automatically play (i.e. if you test in a browser) once it's on the main timeline - is this right? Or am I doing something wrong. Maybe I need to tell it to play?
I'm fetching data from XML to dynamic text in mc symbol done through using button. I want a click of button, dynamic text in mc will change when it load up scene 2.I used this code on button to change my dynamic text in mc on single scene, and it works fine.
Code:
on (release) { var english2 = new XML(); english2.ignoreWhite = true;
[code]....
But this don't work when i have a dynamic text mc symbol on other scene.
I want to load an instance on my stage into an empty movie clip on my stage when it gets to a certain frame. The instance is called jpeg_2 and the movie clip is called empty_mc.
