Professional :: Adding Button Symbol Disables Movie Clip Animation?
Mar 29, 2011
I added a button symbol to a movie clip in a Flash 8 project, and the button works. OnPress it redirects to a web site. However, the animation in the movie clip becomes diabled. I get the same effect regardless of where the button is placed, e.g. scene1 timeline, movie clip, etc.
When I play my animation in the Flash working file, the animation stops at the end of the timeline, as it should. But when I test the movie, or export it to any movie format, it will play an instance of a movie clip symbol that I used within the animation. There are no extra frames in the timeline beyond what should be considered the last frame. Is there a setting or something I have overlooked that might cause that instance of the symbol to play at the end of the animation, without appearing in the main timeline?
I animated eyes blinking inside of a movie clip symbol and placed the symbol on a face outside of the symbol. The eyes are stuck on the first frame. I am using CS5. What do I do?
When your button has 3 different states like rollover, rollout and selected and these are images. Is it best to make it a movieClip or a button symbol?
want to make a time line (timeline is my graphic not the timeline in cs4, like historical timeline WWI, WWII, ETC) with clickable dates (D-DAY, Pearl HARBOR), when you click on a date it will fade in a semi-transparent box that has text (still seeing the original stage in the background behind the semi-transparent text box), when you are done reading the text box you can hit GO BACK to go to the historical timeline.I only have been using flash for about 3 months so bare with me.
I understand button symbol, movie clip symbol, etc. I can make it so that when you are OVER the date it plays an animation of the text box fading in but is kind of bad because if you move the mouse off the date it goes away, which is why I want to make it clickable.Basically I thinkI am using CS4 by the way.In short, make a button that when hit plays a movie clip animation of the textbox fading in front of the historical timeline, I believe I can easily do the go back by using the gotoAndPlay(); feature on the go back button to go to the beginning of the scene.Sorry about the long text, I am pretty sure the answer is easy.
I am trying to control a movie clip symbol within a button. The movie clip instance is named within the button and starts on the "Over" section. I want to control it from the button instance - ie. using roll over, roll off etc. Using dot notation I tried :
PHP Code:
on (rollOver) { tellTarget ("_root.buttonname.movielcipname") { gotoAndStop (2); } }
I have a movie clip symbol that is about 8 frames long. I am staggering it 14 times throughout scene one, with varying times. My problem is that it plays once then disappears (I added actionscript on the last frame in the symbol movie clip). I would like it to play then keep the last frame displayed in scene one until a specific keyframe (60). Not have the movie clip instance loop, rather show the image that is on its last frame.
I am new to animating in flash and have come up against something I don't understand.I made a small 15 frame animation.I drew each of the 15 frames by hand. The animation will loop. that is if you play frames 1 to 15 and then jump back to 1 it seemlessly transitions back and can begin again.I want to convert these 15 frames into one element that I can add many times to the time line.Is there a way to do this?
I tried converting to a movieclip symbol but it only brought in one frameIf it only brings in one frame, what is the point of it being a movie clip? What is the best practice to make a self contained unit of these 15 frames so that I can reuse them?
i have a for loop to attach a movieclip X times, and an Array with several color codes to apply in the loop.everything works fine with the setRGB. the movies have an internal background movieclip that gets the color i want to apply.
the thing is the movieclip's loose the animation i created to that internal movie (the one who get's the color). they do not respond to gotoAndPlay, or gotoAndStop...i disabled the setRGB lines, and the movie's play fine now. does setRGB transform my movieclips to a bitmap or something? disabling every animation inside?
On the main timeline, I have placed a movieclip (movieclipone) which contains some content. On frame 85 of movieclipone, there is a new keyframe which contains a movieclip that hasn't previously appeared in the movieclipone timeline, (moviecliptwo) which contains four buttons (btnone, et cetera). Is there a way to have code in the main timeline that attaches listeners to the buttons inside moviecliptwo, which, when pressed, trigger a function that increases a counter and tells movieclipone to go to the next frame? This is the code I am using right now:
My application creates instances of a movie clip (located in the library) based on XML data. Now I want to add individual button functionality to these instances, and I'm stumped.
I'm basically creating instances of clickable doors, the data of which are fetched from an external XML file. The number of doors (doorCount) is calculated directly from the number of "door" nodes in the XML, so it needs to be fully dynamic. Essentially, I want to have a single function that each instance can use by passing in their individual XML data. Clicking a door would first open the door (or something similar), and clicking it again would lead to a link, listed in each instance node.
Here's the loop, where the instances are created:
[Code].....
I don't really know where to begin. Am I able to declare an eventListener inside the loop? How do I pass the "number" of the door to the function called by the eventListener? Or should I somehow pass the door-specific link (and any other node data) to the function directly from the loop?
I have 4 flyout buttons on my flash and when you RollOut of the button, it plays the closing animation. But if you quickly move the mouse back onto the button before it is finished playing the RollOut, then it gets stuck and flashes and kind of strobes.
I'm trying to create a movie clip on my my main timeline that has a movie clip button within it that pops up a box in the middle of the site that contains text and links. On Frame 1 I have the Up state, frame 2 the roll over state, and frame 3 my Down State (where Box appears).
[Code]...
The problem is that on the main time line, the button is clickable but doesnt do anything
I'm loading an external image into an empty actionscript movie clip (holder1) using MovieClipLoader(); on frame one of my movie and is invisible. Then when the movie plays, there is an empty movie clip symbol (image1_mc) that is placed manually on the stage within another movie clip symbol (flash_mc), and is also on a bottom layer of a mask layer which is animated. Is it possible to place "holder1" inside of "image1_mc" so that I can treat it as if it were an embedded image? In other words, have the image in "holder1" inside of the manually placed movie clip symbol "image1_mc" so that I can use it like a regular symbol on the stage?
I am importing a movie clip as a symbol from a SWF using Embed to a AS3 program and, after attaching the movie clip to the stage, the movie clip keeps repeating. Before you ask I have indeed creating a script layer and put a "stop()" on the last frame. In fact the swf containing the symbol works perfectly fine when executed on its own or in Flashdevelop (my choosen IDE). Its only when imported does the clip keep repeating. Here is the code:
my company (FB games) has fired everyone who knew what they were doing leaving me, with no knowledge of flash, staring at my to-do list near tears, unable to complete basic tasks.I need to take an existing walk cycle animation and replace the character with another design. After breaking the new character body into symbols, I've tried to sub them in using swap symbol. The body parts do not line up with the previous symbols, and they also seem to go flying all over the place when I run the cycle. I can't figure out how to just update the symbols without disrupting the placement.
I've created a button (symbol), and added a OVER state, which covers a bigger boundary than the UP state. However when I add the symbol/button to my stage, the roll over activates on any area covered by the over state, where I only really need it covering the UP state boundary. Any way of clipping the region covered, so mouse over is only triggered by the boundaries of the UP state.
I have a VERY big animation, with a huge amount of keyframes, and I like to swap a symbol in this animation with another one. If I just use the swap button on the first frame, Flash only swaps the symbol for the first tween, whereas I have hundreds of tweens in my file... So how do I do this for every keyframe in every tween ?
I have a blue oval button. In the button timeline, I created a seperate layer and placed the movie in the roll over frame. When I rollover the button, the movie plays, showing the button coming off the page (3D) with a shadow.
I now want to show the button going back into place when I roll off the button, but I am not sure how to do this in the button timeline?
For some reason I can't add ActionScript actions to a timeline frame within a Button Symbol, like I normally would with MovieClip symbols or on the stage. The Actions panel shows this message:"In ActionScript 3.0, code cannot be placed directly on objects. Please select a frame..."even though I definetely have a frame selected.
EDIT: Screenshot as requested. As you can see, a frame is clearly selected...
i have another totally newbie question here, sorry everyone, In one of my frames i would like to have a button that opens up a movie clip, but i would like it to do this on a mouse-over action instead of a click, i have tried using the onRollover action, but i can't get it to work, it's got to be a daft mistake i am making but i have spent ages trying to figure it out, and once again i am stumped.
Can anyone explain what are advantages/disadvantages to put the button inside the movie clip vs. to put a button instance directly on the main timeline? My final goal is to have plenty of animation going on inside the button stages.
I'm having trouble with buttons i placed inside the movie clip....whenever i place functions the rollover state of the button doesn't work anymore....i'm having trouble thinking where to place functions or methods.....i know programming in java and to be frank i'm having trouble with learning actionscript because the books i read don't say where to place the functions they write. Here's a link to my flash file [URL]
I am trying to rotate a symbol on the x axis mulitple times for an animation I am doing. The problem is everytime I try to do a complete rotation, the symbol rotates fine until I hit 180 degrees, but once I go past that mark, the symbol just starts rotating backwards. Is there a certain way I have to do this in order to get a complete rotation in one direction?
