View 1 Replieshey guys, so, im going through colin moock's book, "the definitive guide", and im learning about global variables. so in his lesson he says to do this:
1. create a movieclip called square, with a square inside of it.
2. in the square mc's timeline, on frame 1, place this code :
_global.day = "tuesday";
3. go back to the main timeline and on frame one put this code:
trace(day); no according to moock, when i run the movie, it should output "tuesday", but all i keep getting is "undefined".i'm running mx 2004, so im wondering if that has anything to do with it.
I have a sporadic bug where sometimes when a video is played the video doesn't show up for about 10 seconds but the audio is there.

I am populating a dynamic text box with some xml elements that I am calling on. For example, I have two text fields and am filling them using

How could I populate one dynamic text field using a combination of the two elements above? I'd also like to put a line break between the two elements.I tried something like this and could not figure it out

I'm trying to create a loop of a phone that rings every 5 seconds using the Timer Class. The problem I have is when it gets to function stopRing and noRingTimer.start(); it goes backs to function onTimerComplete not the start.

Everything works. Cool. But, I now want to target something within the signs.swf. How do I do it though? What is the path? Do I have to give the child of signholder an instance name? Everything I try fails.

I am having issues with startDrag(). I have a movie clip called circle. Inside circle, I have a movie clip called circleFill and another called circleOutline.onEnterFrame, this movieClip is duplicated 4 times.
When I use this:

I'm getting the number 248 which means:
00 hours : 04 minutes : 08 seconds
When i use time varaible and then minus the time. Ive noticed that flash does not count down in seconds, but the speed of light. My maths are not very strong so how can i get flash to count in seconds

The if has a bunch of && conditions, if true gotoAndStop on frame two of specified movie clip. But I'm trying to write it put it in a function so that I don't have to put all this code on every single button. So i'm using the "name" function variable to specify the movieclip that should be affected by button action, but it won't work.[code]...

I'm trying to create mono slide show, but I managed to be in some strange trouble. Namely mono slide show works nice, but something is wrong or missing in the code, because it puts the picture, that is pulled thru xml on top of everything. One solution is to do picture smaller, but i want to have buttons and info on the picture. It is not layer problem, because layer with picture container is on the last one. Heres the code:

When the user finished the game, the time will stop and then have to check the time user has spent to finish the game. So, if the user manage to finish the game before 10 min, will get 100 points. If is between 10 and 15 min, will get 90 points and so on.
