These two functions are taken out of my as class file, even though the setInterval is never cleared it only calls generateParticles 1 time. Someone please help me figure this out. I have been messing around with it over an hour but still can find why its only called once. emit is a private var Number declared outside the function in the class.
package{ public class Character{ protected var _hp:uint = 50; //Character Health Points protected var _power:uint = 5; //Damage dealt
[Code].....
I`m instancing a Character and a Player in the Main Timeline, all in frame 1. When I use: ""player.attack(character)"" it works fine by itself.
So I added the if (defender._hp <= 0) this.win() which gives me the following error:
1061: Call to a possibly undefined method win through a reference with static type Character.
"defender" is a Character instance, "this" is a Player instance and "win()" is a Player method. I try to call the Player method inside a Character method using the Player instance adding the "." and his method name
Do I really need to define the win() function in the Character class? Is there a bypass to use a subclass method in a parent class method if it`s called from an instance of the subclass?
I was wondering why my current code for calling a setInterval on a function doesn't work inside my class.I have this code inside one function, calling a second function.
The selfReferential keyword refers to the current class,but was defined previously (selfReferential = this; ).I get no errors, but the dupe() function is never called.and I had the selfReferential variable replaced with the this keyword at one point as well.
I am declaring a variable outside the itemRenderer fx:Script body. However when I am setting it as such in my itemRenderer:est_Var = data.@field_value;It is giving an error "Access of undefined property test_Var"Can I have 2 bodies, one inside the itemrenderer and the usual outside one?
public var test_Var:Number = new Number(); public function useVariableValue():void{ // I will use the variable value in this function..
if I have a class I load, import com.pixelator;//import explosion class In my movie I want to run a function when it finishes and dispatches the event below. How do I do that? here is the code from the class
PHP Code:
function completeHandler() { dispatchEvent(new Event("PIXELS_DONE")); }
I can't use dispatchEvent in my static class, I was wondering if anyone knew how I can achieve similar functionality or if it's possible at all to call dispatchEvent from my static class? I basically want to inform my action script code in my flash file when functionality in my static class is complete.
I want to add about 10 textBoxes and I want them all to be contained in different variable names. I need to declare them outside the document constructor function because of scope, but how then can I use them in a function? I want something like
"you cannot delete variables that are declared within a function with the var statement".Which, as it happens, is precisely what I was trying to doI want to delete the object because it holds a bunch variables that are no longer needed, to prevent potential speed/memory issues later on.it's impossible (probably with reason) and I know vars are local to a function, so now I'm wondering if it is actually necessary to remove local variables
I have a problem accessing a variable which is to store a frame label. Code has been shortened to relevant parts. The following is on the main timeline.
I have a movieclip called "sections" which loads different sections of the website.When the first section is clicked thencontainerCenter is true and the evt.target.name is loaded in to the nextSection variable.Now if a 2nd section is clicked then containerCenter is false. It plays the sections movieclip. Within that movieclip it will eventually play and come to the following script:
PHP Code:
gotoAndPlay(nextSection);
For some reason it won't pick up the variable "nextSection" within the movieclip. I'm getting the error message "Access of undefined property nextSection". It has no problem when it is in the main timeline.I know you can't access a variable declared inside a function, but I have it declared outside the function as you can see above. I've just amended the variable from within the function.
I am trying to adapt to AS3, and I am new to writing packages. I have my external .as file, and in there I have a bunch of functions. I need to call a function written on the timeline.I realize I need to use dispatchEvent, but I'm not exactly sure how. In the package, I currently have:
Code: public function autoNextPict(e:TimerEvent):void {
I have a SWF called Application.swf that loads another SWF called jeu.swf. My main class (don't know how to call it haha), is called Main.as. Another class is called actionObjets.as. When I call: dispatchEvent(new MicroJeuEvent(MicroJeuEvent.JEU_TERMINE, 8, "")); It works perfectly from Main.as, it works perfectly.
But when I call it from actionObjets, it doesn't work. No error either. I tried putting this line in a static function, doesn't work either. Why can I dispatch an Event from my main class and not from another one? I'm not a programmer and I just don't get a few of the basic principles of as3. Is there a way of doing differently?
I can communicate an event between any of them fine using a dispatchEvent and addEventListener, and I can get values from the card & board actionscript files into main.as using e.target.*
However for some reason I just cannot get a value to send from main.as to the card or board classes using this same method. And I'm literally stumped as to why.
I have the following two classes and can't seem to figure to figure out how to call a function in the top one from the bottom one. The top one get instantiated on the root timeline. The bottom one gets instantiated from the top one. How do I call functions between the classes. Also, what if I had another call instantiated in top one and wanted to call a function in the bottom class from the second class?
I'm using flash MX, and this was written in the only frame. Before this, I had the function declared and then called, and the output was 1 then 2 then 3.With the function declared at the end there is no output.In both cases the movieclips never played.
On the stage I have a movieclip by the name of rect_mc. Inside it have have a MovieClip square_mc.In the time line that I get when I double click on rect_mc (timeline of rect_mc) I have written the following code
var width1:Number; width1 = sqaure_mc.width;
How can I access width1 from the document class?The thing that I want to is access the variable declared (width1) in the timeline of rect_mc. Just for the sake of a example only I choose the width of MovieClip.My doubt is how can access a variable declared inside the timeline of rect_mc from the document class. It could be any variable.My document class is:
1- i have class and i called its before and its running on runtime. i need to call function inside this class from another class, but without call the first one again, because if i called it, it will run default class function again is this doable ?
i want to call an external function inside a class. thats the code;
in checkConnectionStatus function,
this[_funcNameForSucceededCon].apply(); doesnt work because "this" is the class, not the Application. How can i reach Application at this time or what can i do?
When you call a method of a class inside a callback function, you can not use this object.To call the method, in javascript, I declare that variable, assign this to that, and use that inside the callback to call the method of this.In actionscript, do I have to do the same way as I do in javascript?The following code is the example to use that to call a method inside callback.Are there more simple way in actionscript?
Code: class className () { //constructor function className(targetmc,linkId) {
[code]....
My question is how can I set up an interval when I click on a button that is created from within the class.
I need my function updater to keep repeating untill I clear the interval.The only way I can figure out is to give the full path like this._parent._parent.instanceName.updater inside the setInterval, but although this works I think is just dumb to hardcode the instace name of the class. I could of course try to pass the instance name as a parameter, but I would really love to find out the smart way to do this (by the book).
