View 1 RepliesI need to count the number of lines that exists in a txt file, from which I load some content. I think I need to escape the content of the txt to be able to read the "/n", to count them and to have them displayed as variable (for example t_linenumber=...?)

how I extract X number of lines?
I'm loading a few bits of text into a dynamic textbox and I want to know if it's possible to find out the number of lines its taking up. Using the height of the textbox isn't an option as the text varies all the time.
View 1 RepliesI'm working with an input text field that has to contain a max number of characters (90... I set this on the properties panel) and a max number of lines: 6 but i don't know how to set this property.... I've searched, and all I could find was the numLines property, but it doesn't allow to specify the number of lines iI need my text to have...

View 5 RepliesThis one is for all the TextField wizards out there. I have a text field that displays 2 paragraphs of texts. The first one I want to be truncated to show only 3 lines of text maximum. The 2nd paragraph is to be appended to that text.
Is there a way I can show only the first 3 lines of the first paragraph? Think of it like an abstract for an article for the first paragraph.
I tried doing it with String.subStr(0, guestimate of 3 lines of chars) but it's pretty inconsistent in that some strings will take up 4 lines of the textfield.
I thought about doing 2 separate textfields but in the case of the first paragraph having only 1 line worth of chars, there will be gap of 2 lines worth of chars between the 2nd paragraph.
I have a textfield that acts as a log in that it routinely gets messages added to it. I want to limit the number of lines the textfield can display - that is, if the textfield exceeds a certain amount of lines, the oldest lines that were added are removed and the rest of the lines of text are shifted up. Basically I'm wondering if there is a cleaner way to do this, as my technique seems inefficient:
Code:
const MAX_LOG_LINES:int = 50;
// assuming parameter message is a string that ends in to add a line break.
function addText(message:String):void
[Code]....
I can't seem to figure out the .numLines property. I've tried calling it on a TextField that was created dynamically. The TextField has multiline set to true and wordWrap also set to true. Any clue why it would consistantly report the number 1? It's being called in a trace statement after the htmlText is set to a string from a xml file.
View 3 RepliesI want to implement paging in a spark text area. For that I want to find out the number of lines a spark textArea can hold before the scrollbars appear and just feed that much lines to the text area.
View 3 RepliesI am trying to get a dynamic text box to add text to it when I press a button, How do I get it to add multiple lines? I tried <br>, but how do I get line breaks? Is there a better code that what I am using?

View 0 RepliesI would like to know is there any limitations in flash textarea like the number of lines it can have or the number of bytes it can have. iam opening a text file using php in textarea, where all the contents of the files are not getting loaded in the textarea. View 1 RepliesI am using CS4 AS3. I have a dynamic text box and need to dynamicall enter multiple lines of code into this box when a button is pushed. View 1 RepliesI have a project I am trying to put together that includes closed captioning with a scrollbar (standard flash component). In my navigation file I have a text box with a dynamic text box with _level10.ccText as the Var
I have a series of pages that get called into a level below the navigation file. On each of them I have code in an actions frame _level10.ccText = "text text text text";
The text displays fine in the text box but when I scroll down the scrollbar scrolls down too far. The text gets to the end and the scrollbar is only about halfway down the bar. If I keep pushing the down button or drag the slider it will go all the way down but my text doesn't move. Its almost like there are extra lines somewhere that it is trying to scroll to.
Is there a way to change the colour of a Dynamic Text Box so that it can have multi-color lines?
E.g.:
Nineteen says: (in red)
Hey everyone! (in black)
?
i want to loop throught the xml for the same number and counting each of them, after the count put it into an array
[Code]..
I'm using a PHP Script to create XML. Which pulls through the data from a Database. I have an video list, which pulls through X amount of videos. But I want to show them 5 at a time. I want to hide a button once it reaches the amount of videos in the XML.Hope there's enough detail in this question. My script is as follows.....
// Event Handler
protected function videoRetrieval_resultHandler(event:ResultEvent):void {
var videoData:ArrayCollection = event.result.videos.video;
[code].....
In the first frame you have to input numbers in three input text fields. And then in next frame when you press "1" "2" and "3" the same numbers appears in three dynamic text fields. I've done all that, but what I cannot figure out is how to make this numbers appear with counting up (e.g. by 50 [0, 50, 100, 150,...]).
I saw already this old thread showthread.php3?t=116768&page=2 (sorry, not allowed to post links) and I tried to manage the code from user "sunlis" to work, but not successfully. And his code is written in ActionScript 1 or 2, I'm not sure, but I need ActionScript 3.0 code.
how to write a function that will count how many characters you can enter to text field i.e: we have a text field with max char = 60, and when you type text we see that number going down
View 1 RepliesI have some XML data loaded using LoaderMax. Flash is putting all my text on one line without any spaces. I need to break it up so each threat is on a separate line. [code]...
View 4 RepliesIs there anyway to count the number of occurrences of an element in an array? E.g.
array = (a, a, c, h, a, h, g, j, j, j)
//Number of times each element appears in the array
a=3
c=1
h=2
g=1
j=3
I made a .fla file that uses an "include" to pull in a bunch of variables from a .as file. I would like to be able to count the number of variables in this file so that I can make the thing more "automatic" so that if someone else in my office adds more variables to the .as file it updates itself. Similar to the way you can count children using an XML file.
View 4 RepliesIs there a way to hide partially shown text lines on a dynamic textfield that has more text than its size can hold? I want to avoid the situation found on the picture below by simply not showing the areas in red (the text comes from lots of sources, so I don't have control over it).
View 2 RepliesI am creating a simple image viewer using AS3 and getting image URLs from flashVars in the HTML. I want to use an if argument to have it perform one function if there is only one flashVar and another if there are more. I have it reading the flashVars fine and can write if statements all day long, the trouble I am having is counting the number of flashVars being passed from the HTML.
var numberOfVars:Number = 0; // to store the number of flashVars
var paramObj:Object = LoaderInfo(this.root.loaderInfo).parameters; //get the flashVars
for each (paramObj in LoaderInfo(this.root.loaderInfo).parameters){
numberOfVars + 1;
} var tf:TextField = new TextField();
addChild(tf);
