Mar 12, 2004I have a counting movie which displays numbers from 1 to 1000 (action scripts) in a dynamic text box. First 1 and then 2 and so on. It works very well. I convert this movie to a movie clip and drag this new movie clip to the main stage on frame 1, but anything happens now.

Dec 21, 2011This one is for all the TextField wizards out there. I have a text field that displays 2 paragraphs of texts. The first one I want to be truncated to show only 3 lines of text maximum. The 2nd paragraph is to be appended to that text.
Is there a way I can show only the first 3 lines of the first paragraph? Think of it like an abstract for an article for the first paragraph.
I tried doing it with String.subStr(0, guestimate of 3 lines of chars) but it's pretty inconsistent in that some strings will take up 4 lines of the textfield.
I thought about doing 2 separate textfields but in the case of the first paragraph having only 1 line worth of chars, there will be gap of 2 lines worth of chars between the 2nd paragraph.

Mar 28, 2009I have a textfield that acts as a log in that it routinely gets messages added to it. I want to limit the number of lines the textfield can display - that is, if the textfield exceeds a certain amount of lines, the oldest lines that were added are removed and the rest of the lines of text are shifted up. Basically I'm wondering if there is a cleaner way to do this, as my technique seems inefficient:

Aug 13, 2009I can't seem to figure out the .numLines property. I've tried calling it on a TextField that was created dynamically. The TextField has multiline set to true and wordWrap also set to true. Any clue why it would consistantly report the number 1? It's being called in a trace statement after the htmlText is set to a string from a xml file.

Sep 3, 2009I have a project I am trying to put together that includes closed captioning with a scrollbar (standard flash component). In my navigation file I have a text box with a dynamic text box with _level10.ccText as the Var
I have a series of pages that get called into a level below the navigation file. On each of them I have code in an actions frame _level10.ccText = "text text text text";
The text displays fine in the text box but when I scroll down the scrollbar scrolls down too far. The text gets to the end and the scrollbar is only about halfway down the bar. If I keep pushing the down button or drag the slider it will go all the way down but my text doesn't move. Its almost like there are extra lines somewhere that it is trying to scroll to.

Jan 5, 2011In the first frame you have to input numbers in three input text fields. And then in next frame when you press "1" "2" and "3" the same numbers appears in three dynamic text fields. I've done all that, but what I cannot figure out is how to make this numbers appear with counting up (e.g. by 50 [0, 50, 100, 150,...]).
I saw already this old thread showthread.php3?t=116768&page=2 (sorry, not allowed to post links) and I tried to manage the code from user "sunlis" to work, but not successfully. And his code is written in ActionScript 1 or 2, I'm not sure, but I need ActionScript 3.0 code.

I would like to be able to count the number of variables in this file so that I can make the thing more "automatic" so that if someone else in my office adds more variables to the .as file it updates itself. I want to use an if argument to have it perform one function if there is only one flashVar and another if there are more. I have it reading the flashVars fine and can write if statements all day long, the trouble I am having is counting the number of flashVars being passed from the HTML.
