ActionScript 2.0 :: External Swf Buttons No Longer Work
May 7, 2006
The site I'm building has seperate swf's for each page...and I have the external swfs loading into the site. But my problem is that when I am on one of the external swf pages that has been loaded, and it has buttons on it, none of these buttons work. They work when I test the swf by itself, but once my main movie loads the swf into the site, the buttons within the swf no longer work.
I have a movie. In it are some buttons and a dynamic text field. When I press the buttons is should load text from a database into the dynamic text field. If I run the movie by itself (ie. not by LoadMovie()-ing it into a different movie) the dynamic text field gets filled with text and all is well and good. However, when I use LoadMovie() to load this very same movie into my main movie, the buttons no longer work; the text field stays empty.
I have a portfolio page that I put together with Flash MX.The interface is bsically a chart that has a bunch of buttons on it. These buttons each have a code similar to this;
on (release) { getURL("javascript:openNewWindow ('file.html','thewin','height=600,width=800,toolbar=no,scrollbar=no,r esizable=no,menubar=no')"); }
This used to work - but not now. Even when I check my browser for pop-up/javascript enabling,it no longer works.
I have a container .swf file which takes care of loading a menu.swf and maincontent.swf. I finally got these working together and loading at the same time, but now I ran into another problem. None of the menu buttons work. It loads and XML takes care of creating the buttons and adding dynamic text to them. I also have it set up so that the mouse's hover position over the clip scrolls it horizontally (because there are too many buttons to show at once). All of this functionality works correctly. However, the buttons' rollovers, clicks, etc. do not register.
The cursor turns into the hand cursor over the entire movie clip into which the menu is loaded, and I'm assuming there is some problem with the events only targeting the clip it is loaded in, and not the buttons themselves. It works fine when testing it by itself. I've just recently begun working with Flash, and I learned AS3. However, I was given pre-existing commercial software to work with which was written in AS2, and now I've converted all of my work, and this is the problem I am running into. By the way, it seems to always come up from what I've seen, though I don't understand much about it -- _lockroot is set to true.
I am loading an external swf in an empty movie clip in my main movie. Within the external swf are several buttons (in a scrollpane). I have this code written on a frame within a movieclip which contains the buttons:
thumb_1.onRelease = function () { _root.gotoAndStop("big1"); }
"thumb_1" is the instance name of the button, "big1" is the name of the frame the button goes to when clicked. All of this works fine untill I bring it into my main movie. I believe the problem has something to do with the "_root." command. I think the main movie is trying to find a frame within its timeline, rather than the external swf. Know what I mean? Anyway, all I know for sure is that the buttons within my external swf don't work when loaded in my main movie.
I have a main fla file that loads three external swf's depending on which of the buttons are clicked in the main fla. These buttons work fine. The three external SWF's are all flip books. The page turns correctly on the book itself, but buttons I put at the bottom so that there is a right and left arrow for page turning do not work when loaded into the main fla. These buttons work when the swf is playing by itself, but when the main fla externally loads the swf, theses left and right buttons don't work.
You can see it here: [URL]
This is the actionscript on the buttons that work when they play individually, but you'll see in the editorial book on the site, the left and right buttons do not work.
I have an swf that I created that contains links to other pages on our site. I can test this and it works fine. However, I then import that swf into my main fla's library. However, after I add it to the stage I test the main movie and the links that worked before in the imported swf no longer work. This seems like it should be a no brainer but for some reason it just isn't working.
I built a flash site. The site's navigation is an external swf file. The file loads fine. However, the buttons within the external swf file do not work. I have a simple goto webapage behavior attached to each of them.
I'm assuming it has something to do with paths. I do not know what the proper code is in order to make a button inside an external swf file change the web page.
I searched every where but didn't have a solution. my main content has a button in the first frame I call it (wright_btn) when u click on it, u suppose to go to next frame this is a part of the code in the first frame:
ActionScript Code: wright_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, wrightAnswer); function wrightAnswer(event:MouseEvent):void { nextFrame(); stop();
I'm pretty new to Flex. Basically, anything I try to build with mxmlc fails to run now, giving me the above three errors depending on what I do. It was working 30 minutes ago, I've been spending that time trying to figure out what has changed. I redownloaded the Flex SDK, cleared my assetcache, have cleared Firefox's cache. (I'm using Linux.) Even if I compile with -static-link-runtime-shared-libraries=false, since it seems like #2048 is a RSL problem, it still refuses to run.
Another strange thing, if I keep <policy-file-url>[URL]> <rsl-url>textLayout_1.0.0.595.swz</rsl-url>
In my flex-config file, then firebug tells me that my swf file is trying to access a copy of that in the app's folder, giving error 2032. And if I stick the one I have in frameworks/rsls/ then it gives me error 2046. I don't know how it could not be properly signed, unless Adobe magically changed a signature and didn't update their flex SDK.
Im trying to make a game at the moment, with a little character who runs around the screen. To do this i have keyboard event listeners on the character.I have an inventory which opens when you click a button, and has number of things to click on.My problem is that when i close the inventory, by clicking the close button, my keyboard event listeners no longer work on my character.
Keyboard events also dont work on the stage at this point, and i cant understand what i need to do.Its as if nothing has focus anymore for keyboard events. Mouse clicks still work fine.
I've got a movieclip on my stage that contains a scrollbar and a few buttons.I have a function that rotates the uses _mc.rotationX=10;After an interval the function uses _mc.rotationX=0;After the movieclip has be rotated back to its original position the scrollbar and buttons no longer receive mouse events.[code]
Very strange thing has happened. I've had this site running fine for over a year, and recently I have discovered that the buttons that go to external URLs do not work.All of the buttons should be going to another .php file, and they have been until discovered yesterday that they do not.If you go to the .swf file directly, you will see that the navigation buttons take you to the correct .php files, but it becomes unclickable when it's in index.php.VERY strange... but then when you go back to index.php, and click the php active hyperlink "Gum Drops" at the bottom of the page, you'll get taken to the php page... and then all of a sudden the navigation, and all flash links to URLs work!
i'm loading an external swf files in one but the buttons inside the external files wich controls its timeline doesn't work, i'm using AS3 but why it doesn't work.The external file just has some simple actions to move between keyframes in the timeline with buttons goto and some other similar actions
I had FMS 3.5 developer package installed on my server installed about a month ago. I used to be able to go to the /webroot/ page to see the sample RTMP video play and it worked great. Today, I go to view that page and find that it no longer plays. I get "Connection Error. Please preee Play to try again."
Pressing the play button does nothing, so I click the RTMP thumbnail and it reloads ony to give me that same error again. I can click the HTTP thumbnail and see the video play just fine. But, I want RTMP and after over an hour on the phone with my managed hosting tech, we can't find anything wrong.
Here's the thing: I haven't done anything, I have not changed anything, I have not manipulated the server software whatsoever. It just stopped working and gives me "Connection Error."
i tried looking here with the keyword 'preloader', to find answers to my problem but I didn't.I'm a freshman AS3 developer....with a portfolio site to launch asap.
I have a movieClip in my library that is exported to AS (external jpg) - it is loaded separately from anything else in my scene (which is disrupting my normal preloader animation). When I simulate the download my preloader doesn't appear in my preview window, and I have no error message either. At first, not sure what the problem was I tried various preloader tutorials online hoping to find a solution. I only realized later on that my preloader didn't work because of my external jpg.How can I make my preloader (code below) load everything altogether? (elements in my scene + external jpg)

PRELOADER (first frame); Code: Select allimport flash.display.MovieClip; import flash.events.ProgressEvent; addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, loaderF); function loaderF(e:Event):void { var toLoad:Number=loaderInfo.bytesTotal; [Code] .....
I have several flash games and quizzes that I now want to put together as a collection on a CD ROM as a bumper pack to buy. I wasn't sure of the best way to do that but I figured that I can create a flash file with individuals buttons on that when pressed loads that SWF's into the main page and plays which I'll export as a standalone player.
Sound good that's just what I wanted, only problem now is that the sound objects that are in the various games no longer play What do I need to do so that they will play as they do when I play each SWF on their own? (Hopefully without too much re-programming of the original games as there are quite a few)
I have a movie clip with 15 frames. Each frame has buttons on it (mc's)... I was going to put the actions on the main timeline/stage and navigate within the MC from the main timeline. Is that possible? I can get the buttons on the first frame of the MC to work, but I can't seem to figure out how to target/make the buttons on the other frames work? I was thinking I could identify the path of the MC with the frame labels, but that doesn't seem to work. like: _root.RMChanger.(frame label).buttonOnFrame = function
I have to move a text box in and out over the MC backgrounds on the main stage... which is why I was thinking to do it this way? I've been switching back and forth bwtween AS2.0 and 3.0
I am having trouble with a job I am doing at the moment which has an mc with buttons within it. I want it so that when I roll over the mc it tweens from a small version to a larger version, and on this mc there are some buttons. At the moment I can get the mc to move but the buttons remain inactive and also the rollover states on the buttons don't work. I have attached a simpler version of what I am trying to do to this post.
I'm having problems with the flash buttons on the flash website i made for a client. or some reason the buttons in the top and bottom menu work on some people's computers but on some they don't. I don't know what to do, i had this code for all the buttons,
on (release) { getURL("http://legaldepartment.ca/","_self"); }
and they worked on my computer but on others the buttons didn't work at all so i added this code to each button also
I am using Flash CS4 with actionscript 2 to create an interacitve portfolio.I have 2 text buttons that work when I test them with "enable simple buttons." When I publish to IE these buttons won't work. I have created over 50 buttons using the same methods, they all work.
I am using in AS3 "External Interface ". When I call the JS function that is on the same page as swf everything works fine.
I added a link in the html page to an external JS file, when I move the JS function to the external JS file the website crushes.
I would prefer to have all my JS functions on an external file so I can use them in the future in other project and it also makes it easier for me to update the site.
how to call a JS function that is on an external file from AS3?
... I've had my preloader successes already, but something still doesn't work for the external movies... I'm loading the main movie - which contains several chapters, loaded as external swf's - with the following preloader on the first frame, rest content from second frame on:
I spent almost a week trying to figure out how to unload a currently loaded swf using its button and loading a new swf... I have three files, a main.fla, file1.fla and file2.fla. In my main.fla, I have a code which loads the other two files. If i will click the "unload" button in the file1.swf, I would like the main.fla to unload the file1.swf and load the other file, file2.swf. Here is the code to load the file1.swf:
I'm trying to create an informative flash program on Mt. St. Helens about the dust cloud it created when it errupted. I have everything ready to go including the buttons and the pages the screen or next image it should take you to. I'm just stuck on how I get the buttons to actually take you to the next frame.
if i'm on the home page of this flash site, a button on the nav menu loads the correct scene the first time it's clicked, but if you nav to another scene and click the first one agin to return to it, nothing happens. why would a button behave one way on a scene and another way on another scene?
I've used flash like twice in my life, but I think I know how to make a button. I'm working on my artists portfolio online and I'm making it in flash. Basically it has buttons which link to photos and videos. There are 5 videos and 5 photographs. Now the problem is when you click on a button and watch a video buttons 1-3 of photos don't work. But the 4 and 5 buttons for photos work. It seems to only happen after you watch a video. The same actionscript is on all of them GotoandStop is the command I'm using for the photos and GotoandPlay for the videos.
I had all of my code working, then I moved all of my main movie timeline into a movie clip (body_mc)Main movie now has 1 frame.My body_mc has a navigation menu, one button is portfolio_bttn which takes you to that frame label. It persists through all frames of body_mc. This button works fine.I seem to have everything working except 4 buttons on the first frame of body_mc. They should all perform exactly the same function as portfolio_bttn. They exist only in frame 1.They work the first time you click one (any one).Navigate back to frame one of body_mc and all 4 buttons will no longer work. What am I doing wrong??here is my code which is in frame 1 of the main timeline
Code: body_mc.portfolio_bttn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, clickPortfolio); function clickPortfolio(event:MouseEvent):void {
