ActionScript 2.0 :: HitTest Of Actual Picture Rather Than The _x/_y Portions?
Jun 25, 2005
I am quite a way through creating my own game from scratch and i have smacked straight-on, head first into a triple layer brick wall.As it is I have my hitTest code(Below.) which detects a hitTest on the _x and _y positon of my car MC. The code is placed on the background, however, as the car mc is large it overlaps the wall when they are driving, until the _x and/or _y position are colliding.So, basically, I need it so it goes off the hitTest of my actual picture rather than the _x/_y postions,My code(partial) at the moment;
Code:
.....
x = Math.sin(_root.car.dude._rotation*(Math.PI/180))*_root.speed;
y = Math.cos(_root.car.dude._rotation*(Math.PI/180))*_root.speed*-1;[code]....
I want to make a picture gallery and use buttons that move you from picture to picture and backwards, but I don't want to tell button 1 to go to frame 2 and button 2 to got to frame 3 and so on (I hope you know what I mean)Can I use on button on a separate layer with the same action set? I tried something like that, but it didn't work:
on (release) { thisframe =+1 } [code]........
but it didn't work. I'm kind of new to any action script other than gotAndPlay, easy functions and all that.
I recently learned about scrollRect. Can anyone tell me how efficient it is? by this i mean i have a huge background_mc and use a stage sized rectangle as the scrollRect to scan the insides of that movie Clip. (like a vcam i guess). Since it only renders the rectangle area , is it safe to say it doesn't matter how large "background_mc" is ? or is it better to dynamically add portions to the background when its just outside the stage.
I'm considering taking on a new project for myself - nothing particularly major - but I've a few questions that I'm certain anyone with some serious experience with Flash might be able to answer for me or perhaps (hopefully) guide me in the right direction for alternatives.
So I have an idea for a horizontal menu that I want to design using Flash (I've only experience with AS3 - odd as that is? - so that'll be how it'll be designed). As I'm coming to understand it's difficult/impossible to have the embedded flash interact with other portions of the HTML, so for every time that a menu item is clicked, is the only way to go about moving to that page just having the entire page effected - ie each page (home, port, etc) has to also include the embedded flash as well, or can I just have it affect some subwindow or section of the page, instead?
I'm noticing that my embedded font is not properly displaying when I browse to certain portions of my site with my other office pc's. The "about me" section of [URL] in particular. What's confusing is that the other portions of the site do display the font properly!?! I've uploaded the original .fla file to the server for anyone that's really interested in helping. It can be downloaded at [URL]
I'm not a Flash developer, but I'm working on a Flash advertising issue where a Flash ad (movie/SWF file) is sometimes having portions of its animation panels or timeline (specifically some text copy) getting stuck and then they stack/layer/overlap on top of each other at the end of the final frame of animation.We were able to reproduce this only sporadically in IE7 but someone else reported the issue using IE8.A screenshot of the portions that are overlapping is pasted further below.The "Dr. Ted Lawrence" and "A pioneer in tumor radiation therapy." text copy portions are sometimes getting stuck and are sometimes overlapping onto the final frame of the animation.
URL to the Flash SWF movie file: http://s0.2mdn.net/1608548/umhs11_specialty_cancertreatment_728x90.swf (AS2, published as Flash 8)
I do not have the .FLA file.Would that be needed to troubleshoot this issue further?I know I'm probably not using the correct terms exactly, etc,
I recently used the loadMovie action to load a .swf file to a target in the movie which it was being called from. Then I tried calling a picture to another target in the movie, but it did not load the picture as intended. I read about it on my book, but it didn't seem to work. Is there anyways on calling a picture into a target in the movie without placing the picture inside an swf file?
I have just been to a really nice website that has some really nice use of Flash on it.... I'm totally wowed by the resizing picture effect though? When each picture loads the loading frame resizes to the new picture size.
I am trying to build a site that would give users the ability to upload a picture to a picture frame on my site. I would like AS3 to dynamically re-size, and upload the file from an upload bar under the frame.
I'm totally wowed by the resizing picture effect though? When each picture loads the loading frame resizes to the new picture size.It must be some sort of actionscripting but how is it done?
i just would like to know how to create an "hitTest" script inside a movieclip that is actually part of that hitTest code?I mean... I have mc A, and mc B. and the current hitTest code im using (that is on the timeline) makes mc A, destroy mc B when collide with it... but there are many mc B on the stage (with the same instance name) so, when mc A collide with one mc B, it destroys ALL mc's B... but i want it to destroy only the mc B that he collides, not all the others... maybe an hitTest script inside a movieclip B would work (somethig like "if MC A hitTest ME = i die" (not all the others)).
i got five images, and five buttons, every image has a color, and lets say we start at the red one. When i click the the green button i want the green image to fade in.. i fugured out a way to do this on the timeline, but then i have to have a black box first fading in to remove the old picture and then start fading in the new picture..
I made a simple picture slideshow with a timer, prev/next buttons, pause/play buttons and jump buttons. Everything went good so far.Now i'm trying make every picture go to a URL when the picture is clicked but only the link on the first frame goes to the URL when clicked the other 5 buttons do nothing when click.(FYI: I made alpha 0% buttons in a layer above pictures)I tried two different codes but both have no effect.
as layer
Code: stop(); var nextImage:Timer = new Timer(3000); nextImage.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER,playNext); nextImage.start();
I am trying to figure out how to do the followingi have 2 arrays (array1 array2) containing movieclip objects and i want to temporarily store the objects i want to delete from those 2 arrays in a separate 3rd array (itemsToDelete), so if certain conditions are met, it will run throught the "itemsToDelete" array and delete the items from array1 and array2
is some thing like i have a menu as the background, then if i click the picture, another menu rollover the background picture covering ard 40% of the background.any1 can lead the road for me >< me jus start learning AS3 ><
i am controlling a tractor mc with right and left keyboard keys and let the user move the tractor till it reach a certain point where it touch a mc i want to go to a certain frame and stop the keyboard event listener and also the hit test listenerso finally the tractor is moved by user till it touches the mc then we will jump to a certain framethis certain frame will not have both of the tractor and the mcPHP Code:
I am trying to get the stage width of the FLA in as3. Obviously, stage.stageWidth works well, the only issue is that when viewing the the SWF in an HTML page when you are zoomed in or out it gives you the relative width of your current view. For example, my stage width is 800x600 and when I trace out the stage.stageWidth it is showing up as 800 as long as I am viewing in my browser at 100 percecent, but once I zoom out in my browser the stageWidth gets traced out as a smaller number. Does anyone know how I can dynamically get the stageWidth of the FLA and have it not change regardless of how you are viewing the HTML page
I am trying to retrieve my SWF's referring document filename. For example, if index.html is calling mymovie.swf, I want to return index.html. I know this can be done through a combination of scripting and flashVars, but I would like to avoid that for security purposes. The flashVars variables can be seen by anyone who knows how to view source. Is there a way to accomplish this solely in Actionscript? or Flex?
[URL]Basically, I would like to have an xml gallery, grid alignment... and to be able to use an actual scrollbar to look through the thumbnails.I tried to do this at home but got weird results, IE when scrolling down the thumbnails would actually scroll up etc.
I have converted my MPEG video recorded from my camcorder to FLV to use on "Flash CS4" using "Adobe Media Converter". But the FLV playback on the "Flash player 10" is alot smaller than the playback of the MPEG video on "VLC". Is there anyway to adjust any properties to get the FLV to the actual size of the MPEG video?
I've been messing around with hittest and I can't figure out how to detect when the actual content of the MC collides with the other's, rather than just detecting when the bounding boxes collide.
increase the actual workspace. Not the size of my stage but the actual box that is around the stage. Mines a light gray. Its just I have stuff the needs to be way way off screen and there seems to be a limit on how far the project extends.
I like to know is "where, exactly, are you drawing that glyph?" The TextField class provides the methods getBounds and getCharBoundaries, but these methods return rectangles that extend far beyond the actual bounds of the whole text object or the individual character, respectively.
var b:Sprite = new Sprite(); b.graphics.lineStyle(1,0xFF0000); var r:Rectangle = text.getCharBoundaries(4);
[Code].....
Is there any way to get more precise information about the actual visual bounds of text glyphs in ActionScript?
I'd like to get the actual height of a component after adding some children.
When inspecting the variables tab in debug mode, I see 2 different height variables:$height (which contains the correct value: 138) and height/_height (which contains a wrong value: 10).
I guess that the display is not updated and so I'm not getting the correct height using component.height, but how can I get the value in $height?
how you can pause an actionscript code? I've found posts which explain how to pause animations, but none on how to pause actual actionscript commands .A quick example would be to make a box increase in size (which was done through AS). But when it gets to 100 pixels wide, i want it to pause for 3 seconds before continuing again.
I've added a UIScrollBar on a text. What I need is to make the actual bar to be on bottom on default. (for chat text purposes.. new messages will be added on bot)
Is there any way to access the actual FLV object or whatever format YouTube videos are streamed in so you could load it in normally and play it like any netstream?
I've decided to take the jump to AS3 now but im having a lot of issues... Im trying to load an external swf into a movieclip.
In AS2 it would be:
PHP Code:
var mcLoader:MovieClipLoader = new MovieClipLoader(); var myListener:Object = new Object (); mcLoader.addListener(myListener); mcLoader.loadClip("mainLoader.swf","externalLoader_mc");
[Code].....
How can i load the URLRequest into an actual movieclip as i have done in AS2? As far as i know the load function only accepts one variable. ATM the external swf im loading is just going into thin air and i can't get anything to happen (i have the functions created to deal with the events btw).
Edit: Just fixed it by adding externalLoader_mc.addChild(myLoader);
